SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The National Merit Scholarship Program was created to identify and recognize exceptional students in the United States. Created in 1955, it is one of the most competitive programs in our nation. Our recipients began the process in their junior year when they participated in the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test given to students nationwide. Based upon exceptional performance on this test, one half of the top 1 percent of the approximate one million students who completed the exam was designated as National Merit Finalists. Lafayette High School is proud to have 24 students who have been recognized this year as either National Merit Commended or National Merit Finalists.
