Letters from the EditorsDear Seniors, We editors were told to write a letter for

this great Senior Edition we have put out. However,I find myself lacking the words, that and a lack of mo-

tivation. (Gotta love senioritis) However, I do want to takethis time and say thank you to you all. Each and every one ofyou have made this a GREAT senior year, and the best yearby far! It has been such a privilege to be surrounded by sucha great group of peers.

I can’t believe we have come to the end of our journeys. Itseems like yesterday I was just a scared little freshman, whodidn’t know where to go and only knew that there was NOTa purple staircase or a third floor swimming pool. And nowlook at how far we have come. This is it! The moment that we thought couldn’t get here fastenough has snuck up on us. (Well it has snuck up on me anyway.) Now we are about to walkacross the stage and leave through the doors of DHS for the last time.

I can go on and on about how much I’m going to miss AP English and the parties we threw,or the excitement that fills the room on collating day in journalism; I can even go on and sayhow much I will miss the teachers who have so impacted my life, but truthfully, I’m going tomiss my friends. Each and every one of you. Life is nothing without a great group of friends tobe around. Life would be so boring without the laughs and times we have shared. I can honestlysay that ten, twenty years from now I will look back and see these four years as some of the bestof my life. I hope that I have brightened your day at least half as much as you have mine.

I hope that as we embark on this journey, we will be the generation that makes a difference. There has been so much heart shown this year from the benefit concert, to filling sandbags forthe flood victims, and just being there when tragedy hit. If there was a group of people thatcould change the world, I would bet money that it would be us. Our futures are unclear, but Iknow to expect great things from the class of 2011. Hopefully our ten year reunion will not bethe first time I see you in ten years and that we remain in contact always. Remember, this isn’ta good-bye, just a see you later. So until next time.... Ginny Roper

Well guys, it is finally our turn. Our turn to walk acrossthat stage on Sunday and move on to the next steps inour lives. It is our time to look back at all the things we

have done and all the friends we have made throughout our fouryears. It is our time to think about who we have grown to be andhow we got here.

I want to say that high school has been an everyday learning ex-perience. There has not been a day here that I have not appreci-ated.

School has taught me more than derivatives and important datesin history; it has taught me the importance of friendship and hap-piness.

I am happy and happy to say this school and town has a lot ofgreat people in it. From the faculty to the people in my classes, Dy-ersburg runs with great personalities. That is what I will miss the

most. The people I have met in my four years will go with me for a lifetime. I know we will allgo our separate ways but the memories we share I will never forget. I cannot express how muchy’all mean to me.

It was all the late nights decorating for homecoming and Miss DHS. It was the early morningFCA meetings and working on the Trojan Torch. It was the errands ran and the projects due thatbrought out some of my fondest memories. In a way, school has brought my happiness.

Class of 2011, y’all are awesome. I enjoy being around all you guys and the kind spirits youpossess. Each and everyone of you, whether you realize it or not, has taught me something orimpacted my life. I thank you for that.

I just want everyone to look up and appreciate what is around you. Take a last moment tothink about the football games, honors parties, dances, plays, clubs and everything you wereinvolved in this year and the memories it brought you. Seniors, we all are taking that step closerto our futures but never forget your past. Seniors, we had a great run and I will miss everyoneterribly. Seniors, it is not goodbye, it is simply see you later. I love y’all. Emma Caylor

To whom it mayconcern, I reallydon’t know what to

say. I just can’t believethat four years of highschool are finally comingto an end. I mean, I couldgo on about how great theteachers are, how I am soglad I got involved withso many clubs and organ-izations, but the one thingI will truly miss at Dyers-burg High School are thepeople. More than any-thing, I will miss seeingall my friends everyday.

Even if I don’t get to talk to them, and only get a glance or agreeting all day, I am glad I have seen them. I have just got-ten so accustomed to seeing all my friends everyday, and Ithink that is what I will miss the most. Sure, I will miss thoselate nights spent up at school for Drama, and late afternoonsworking on the newspaper turning into evenings, and cer-tainly I will miss getting off the bus at 9:30 at night with across country trophy in tow, but all those amazing memoriesmean nothing to me without the people I first experiencedthem with. If there is only one thing I could depart to you, itis this: enjoy where you are and who you are with. Comingfrom someone who once barely had anyone outside his fam-ily he could call ‘friend’ I am grateful each and every dayfor those around me. I don’t think there is a better remedyto a bad day than just sitting down with a friend and forget-ting all about it. I guess, overall, I have had a pretty decent high school ex-perience. I feel that I didn’t really open up to people untilthis year. And, uncoincidentally, (Is that a word? I don’tthink so. Oh well.) this year has been the best of my life. Thenew experiences I have had, the people I have gotten closertoo, the people I have met, the life lessons learned, all of it Iwouldn’t trade for the world. I think that is what I am mostscared about going to college, having to leave all the peopleI have gotten close to, trying to make new friendships whenI still want to hold onto all my current ones, and finally, thefear that over time, I will just drift away from the people Iswore in my head I would never forget. But that is life, Iknow that four years from now, I will have to do the samething as I leave college and see where the world takes me.And after that, I will probably settle down, make friends Iwill eventually have to leave again too. However, the onething that consoles me is the hope that in the transitions andheartbreak and change that life throws at me, is that I willbe able to hang onto one at least one really good friend fromeach period in my life. If I can keep just one really goodfriend, one person with whom I can share all my triumphs, one person with whom I can share all my failures, one canperson who I know truly understands me, one person whoknows who feels comfortable enough to share his thoughts, his dreams, his hopes, it will all have been worth it.

To my fellow seniors, CONGRATU-LATIONS! We have made itthrough high school and can look

forward to many exciting years ahead. And how fun these past years have been!Personally, my High School years and es-pecially the three spent here in journal-ism have been the best of my life.

The class of 2011, as we well know, waslooked upon as way too large and anightmare to any teacher or faculty mem-ber who had to keep us under control (wewere, after all, the reason for 8D in mid-dle school). However, if you look at theother end of the spectrum, you see thegreatness and unlimited potential ourclass possesses. We have headed organi-zations and founded others. We have changed other’s lives through hoursof community service locally, nationally, and internationally. When facedwith a problem, we overcame it with flying colors. I’m proud to be a mem-ber of our class.

Not only am I a proud member of the class of 2011, I am proud to havebeen in journalism, surrounded by an amazing group of people. I mustadmit, when Mrs. Edwards dragged me out of choir to tour the Torchroom, I wasn’t so sure I was up for it. I would be in a class with a bunchof intimidating upper classmen, and worst of all, I would have to... write.Writing has never been a strong point for me and knowing that I wouldsoon be forced to turn out articles on a regular basis did not sound veryappealing. Nevertheless, I was convinced to try the class and began mysophomore year. It’s a decision I will never regret making.

I could go on and on about how the Trojan Torch has changed my life. The once intimidating students I was forced to work with have becomemy close friends and made me a more outgoing individual. I have becomea much better writer and it is not the end of the world anymore when ateacher says, “It’s time to write an essay!” I have become a team memberand a leader and have learned how to take on responsibilities such asbeing business manager or editor. Thank you Mrs. Edwards and the entirejournalism class!

I will never forget Dyersburg High School with its teachers, faculty andfellow students. Because of it, I know I am ready for whatever the futureholds. Hunter Todd

Ahh, life!! We are so young. There isso much more for all of us. I can’tbelieve we are here. But gradua-

tion does not mark the start of our lives.Think about how profound the past eight-een years have already been. We have al-ready done some pretty amazing things.

To the senior class, congrats. As we all goour separate ways, we carry a piece of eachother with us. Even if we feel like runningand never looking back, we still havememories of growing up together that wewill never lose. As I look back on it all,

there is almost too much to even comprehend. Growing up involves somany emotions. There is so much laughter, color, and love. There are tears, and the pain of letting go and moving on. But would you change any of it?I wouldn’t.Some of my fondest memories of high school are in the Trojan Torch room.

I built relationships with people on the staff that are simply unforgettable.I am proud to say that each of my fellow editors will impact to the worldthat we are entering. They already have.

Starting Global Youth has been so rewarding. Coming together and cre-ating something to help others has been one of the best parts of high school. The benefit concerts were two of the best nights of my life. I am so thankfuland proud of everyone who was involved.

What will I miss? I will miss riding shot-gun in the “hoopdy” with Sara.I will miss laughing until I cry at Amanda Claire Jones everyday. There isnothing like late nights spent with your best freinds. I will miss Yuki! I willmiss student council trips with Elizabeth and Mrs. Finley. I will even missstudent council. (a little) There is nothing like the lates night we spent dec-orating. I will miss sitting in the Torch room for hours. That room feels likea second home.

Our futures are uncertain. I am not sure where you all will go and whatyou will do, but do what you love. You have one life, so do something thatmakes you happy. Surround yourself with people that bring out the bestin you. Find passion in living. You are what you create, so create somethingbeautiful. There is so much good that can be done in the world. I challengeall of you to be a part of something much bigger than yourself. Seek to bepart of a better tomorrow. And “do everything in love.” - 1 Corinthians16:14. Savannah Johnson

DHS, this is my holla out. Depression in 3... 2... 1... High School is over, and we will never relive it. The days of dresscode, pep rallies, honors parties, and running to turkey day are over. This is the end of those simple yet deliciousrolls the cafeteria always makes. This is the end of Senioritis... and Junioritis, and Sophomoreitis. This is the end of

a dozen kids walking around some tables carrying papers while dancing to "No Sleep" or more likely "Not Afraid." This isthe end of Leonard's pre-game pump up sessions. This is the last time we will... alright this is getting ridiculous.

So I have started my letter from the editor in the most cynical fashion possible. "Living through life's rear view mirror" asmy brother would say. A healthy amount of nostalgia is tolerable, but let's not get bogged down with sadness and regrets, people. We are entering the summer of our lives. We are budding flowers ready to enter our season... or something likethat? There is so much potential in our generation, it is insane. We have access to resources and to information that we canuse to change the world (and I mean that in the most non-cliche way possible). So open up your eyes kids, we are about tobe running this world and we need to do it right. That's enough of that, now for some shout outs:

Shout out to Fredd, for tolerating my 2nd period ADHD. Shout out to Mrs. Edwards, for making rooms 220 and 221 thecoolest spots in DHS. Shout out to Joe for helping me prove that Dyersburg can be made interesting with the right numberof adventures, sincerely, Judd. Shout out to all things futbol. Shout out to Mrs. Gam for dodging the shoe and forgiving theflake. Shout out to Mr. Arrington, nuff said. Shout out to Robert Craig, for being the closest thing to Shane Claiborne southof the Mason-Dixon line. Shout out to the state soccer tournament. Shout out to the cross country team, however cultish

we would get before meets. Shout out to my dawgs, and the Whitnel farm. Shout out to El Patio, for being the default post-game location. Shout out toprom(s). Shout out to Global Youth, and to the Benefit Concert making bank for those in need. Shout out to bananas and honeydews, the most compatiblefruits on earth. Shout out to 18 years of priceless life, for being solid.Man I'll miss my dawgs, Andrew Legan
