Introduction

Inauguration Ceremony of HKIUS Council (2019-21) and IIUS Executive Committee

(2019-23) (HK Chapter) was held in Regal Kowloon Hotel, Tsim Sha Tsui, on 25th

September, 2019 (Wednesday).

The ceremony was a major event held by Hong Kong Institute of Utility Specialists

(HKIUS) and International Institute of Utility Specialists (IIUS), to foster the exchange of

ideas among the utility industry through seminars and to celebrate the incumbent of

council members through the inauguration ceremony.

Objectives Seminars on “PII and Underground BIM”

A series of free admission seminars themed on “PII and Underground BIM” were

organized to arouse the awareness of and deepen the understanding of the participants

to BIM standards and Underground BIM.

Inauguration Ceremony

The inauguration ceremony marks the incumbent of the HKIUS Council (2019-21) and

IIUS Executive Committee (2019-23) officially.

Award Presentation

The Outstanding Award of Utility Specialists 2019 (Professional/Student) recognize the

awardees’ outstanding contributions and achievements related to utility industry. All

shortlisted nominees were invited to join the dinner and all awardees were announced

publicly during the ceremony.

Seminars on “PII and Underground BIM”

Seminars started at 2:30pm. There were 3 speakers delivered presentations related to PII,

Underground BIM and New Technology & Equipment adopted in utility industry. A few

booths were also set up to showcase the new equipment.

Registration and Cocktail

The ceremony has completed successfully, with over 200 guests attended! Honorably, we

had Ir LAM Sai-hung, JP, Permanent Secy (Works) of Development Bureau being the

Guest of Honor. Please refer to Appendix 1 – Major Guests List.

Most guests arrived at around 18:00pm and received their name badges. They

chitchatted with each other and sharing their insights about the development of

underground utility.

Welcome Speech by Ir Prof Eric MA, President, IIUS

President of IIUS, Ir Prof Eric MA welcomed and expressed his gratitude to the guest at

the opening. He introduced the establishment, main functions and future plan of IIUS.

Keynote Speech by GOH-Ir LAM Sai-hung

Ir LAM Sai-hung, Permanent Secretary for Development (Works) and Hon. Fellow of

HKIUS were invited as Guest of Honour. He conducted his keynote speech after Ir Prof

Eric MA.

Following the keynote speech, Ir LAM presented the appointment certificates to the

Inauguration of IIUS Executive Committee (HK Chapter)

As an international platform, IIUS has recruited a number of overseas members to build

the future of utility industry in joint efforts. Each committee carries a service term of 5-

years.

The 1st Executive Committee (2019-23) (HK Chapter) was inaugurated by GOH, under the

witness of 200 guests. With pleasure, the overseas committee members (regional

representatives) flied over to Hong Kong to celebrate this big day.

Certificate Presentation to Ir LAM Sai-hung as HKIUS Hon. Fellow

Ir LAM Sai-hung has recently admitted as Honorary Fellow of HKIUS. After the

inauguration, President - Ir C.K NG presented the membership certificate to Ir LAM.

To be an honorary fellow of HKIUS, the invitee has to hold a senior and influential

position in construction industry, and has made continuous remarkable contribution to

the industry. In the past few years, the former Permanent Secretaries for Development

(Works) including Ir WAI Chi-shing, Ir HON Chi-keung and the former Secretary - Ir MA

Siu-cheung, Eric had also offered great supports to HKIUS.

Souvenir Presentation to GOH

A souvenir was presented to the Guest of Honour, Ir LAM Sai-hung from IIUS President,

IIUS Executive President and HKIUS President. It’s a Thank You Card designed by the

Secretariat. A utility map was put on the cover to symbolize the importance of

underground survey.

Outstanding Award of Utility Specialists 2019

The Outstanding Award of Utility Specialists 2019 includes 2 divisions: Professional and

Students. The criteria of the award is as below:

Professional Student - Professional competence - Excellence in the workplace - Communication and association - Integration of innovative technology - Professional ethics

- Academic Performance (B+ or above) - Student Achievement - Communication and association - Integration of innovative technology

3 nominations for professionals and 9 nominations from students were received. 1 of the

professional and 3 students won the award this year.

Certificates and book vouchers of (HKD$1,000 each) sponsored by the Ir Damien KU

Scholarship were given to the award winners.

Game Time

MC introduced the game “Word Puzzle”, and the guests were required to find all hidden

words related to utility. The first winner could get a pair of wine glasses sponsored by REC

Engineering Co., Ltd., while the 2nd to 21st winners could get a USB sponsored by MSDI.

Closing speech by Ir Dr. King WONG, IIUS Executive President

A closing speech was given out by Ir Dr. King Wong to all the guests. He specially

thanked to all the guests and hoped HKIUS and IIUS will keep on flourishing.
