Introduction

Music is an art form whose medium is sound and silence. It has been created by first humans on Earth. Music is man's need to demonstrate his feelings and emotions. Music has taken a big role in humans' life since ever, it has represented the nations and countries. With this project we wanted to look back on the development of music from native Americans' music until popular music today. Even in the earliest days people needed a way to express their feelings and thats how music became a form of art. While expressing different emotions then resulted different types of music. A big influence on the development of music have had social, political and religious circumstances. Music genres such as pop, rock and roll, rap, jazz, blues, electronic music and many subgenres emerged under these circumstances.

Native American music

The history of American music began with the Native Americans, the first people to populate North America. The music of these people mostly religious in purpose. Singing and native instruments, such as drums and rattles, are the most important aspects of traditional Native American music.

Native instruments It usually begins with slow and steady beats that grow gradually faster and more emphatic. Songs included both public and "secret" text, secret songs were only used while rituals and ceremonies while pubilc ones were used in everydays' life. Many songs celebrate harvest, planting season or other important times of year. Native Americans perform stories through song, music and dance, and the historical facts and also costumes took important part in songs. A tribe's history is constantly told and retold through music, which keeps alive an oral narrative of history. These historical narratives vary widely from tribe to tribe, and are an integral part of tribal identity. All tribes had their own anthem which differed them from any other tribe and anthems reflected condition in tribe.

By the 16th century, large-scale immigration of English, French and Spanish settlers brought new kinds of folk music. This was followed by the importation of Africans as slaves, bringing their music with them which will take a big part and leave a big trace on American culture.

Native performanceCountry

Country albumCountry music is a genre of American popular music that originated in the rural regions of the Southern United States in the 1920's. Country music often consists of ballads and dance tunes with generally simple forms and harmonies accompanied by many instruments such as banjos, electric and acoustic guitars. It came from rural regions so clothing style was very casual. Most famous country singers are Jimmie Rodgers, Roy Acuff, Hank Williams and many more. This music was genre was caracteristc and still represents way of life on Wild West.

African-American music

In the 19th century, African-Americans were freed from slavery following the American Civil War. Their music was a mixture of Scottish and African origin, like African American gospel. Work songs and field hollers were popular, but it was spirituals which became a major foundation for music in the 20th century they have also developed new musical styles such as ragtime and what would become known as jazz. First blues and jazz songs were written in 1920's, they have been highly influential across socio-economic and racial groupings internationally, and have enjoyed popularity on a global level.

JazzIt is impossible to deal with early decades of the 20th century without mentioning Jazz. [footnoteRef:1]Jazz is defined like form of art music which originated in the United States through the confrontation of the Negro with European music. Its roots lie in combining African-american melody and Europan harmony and form of music elements. As the music has developed and spread around the world it has infulenced different national, regional and local musical cultures, giving rise to many distinctive styles such as Gypsy jazz and New Orleans jazz. Typical instruments are saxophone, clarinet, bass guitar and many more instruments that create harmonic melody. People dressed very formal, men wore black suits with inevitable hats on and women long, black, elegant dresses. [1: Source Life and Literature, Gylendal]

Jazz ansamble

BluesBlues is both name given to musican form and music genre that originated from African-American comunities from spiritual songs and work songs and rhymed simple narrative ballads. Blues can be subdivided into several genres ranging from country to urban blues that were more or less popular during different periods of the 20th century. Best known are the Delta, Piedmont, Jump, and Chicago blues styles. World War II marked the transition from acoustic to electric blues and offered blues to World. Blues music has was the stepping stone to rock and roll, country and western.

Blues performance

Gospel

Church choirGospel is music genre, it cant be defined because it varies according to culture and social context. Gospel music is composed and performed for many purposes religious or ceremonial purposes, and as an entertainment product for the marketplace. Gospel is characterized by dominat vocals usually with strong use of harmony referencing lyrics of a Christian nature. Coming out of an oral tradition, gospel music typically utilizes a great deal of repetition. The repetition of the words allowed those who couldn't read the opportunity to participate in worship. Most of curches did not have instruments to use, there were church choirs that developed in this time. Most of singing was done a cappella (singing without music in background)

Rock and Roll

Rock music is a genre of popular music that originated as rock and roll in the United States in 1950s and developed into range if different styles in the 1960s and later, particularly in the United Kingdom and United States. It has roots in 1940s and 1950s and it was influenced by blues, country music, jazz, classical music and other sources. Rock is mostly played with an electric guitar , bass guitar and drums as part of a rock group. Likepop music, lyrics often stress romantic love, but also address a wide variety of other themes that are frequently social or political. The dominance of rock by white, male musicians has been seen as one of the key factors shaping the themes explored in rock music. Rock places a higher degree of emphasis on musicianship, live performance, and an ideology ofauthenticitythan pop music.[footnoteRef:2] [2: Source - Wikipedia]

Development of rock music lead to forming major sub-cultures such as mods and hippie in the 1960s and goth and emo in 1970s. Inheriting the folk tradition of theprotest song, rock music has been associated with political activism as well as changes in social attitudes to race, sex and drug use, and is often seen as an expression of youth revolt against adults.

Development of rock musicOrigins of rock music (1940s to 1960s)The foundations of rock music are in rock and roll, which originated in the United States during the late 1940s and early 1950s. It origins lay in melding of various black musical genres of the time including blues and gospel music with country and western. First rock song is That's All Right by Elvis Presley.

Elvis PresleyThe period of the later 1950s and early 1960s, between the end of the initial period of innovation and what became known in the US as the "British Invasion", has traditionally been seen as an era of hiatus for rock and roll. Key acts were Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles. In 1960s was popular surf music and biggest band were The Beach Boys. The Golden Age of rock music (1960s)

In the 1960s came the British Invasion lead by the legendary groups The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. They were extreamly popular in the US and reformed rock music not only in the US, but in the entire world. In that period was also formed a genre of rock music that was called pop rock. It is described as a softer alternative of rock. It was representd by artists such as Elton John, Paul McCartney, Rod Stewart and The Who.Blues rock has formed in US and key acts were Janis Joplin and Jimmy Hendrix, who were also great friends and they both died at the age of 27.

The DoorsIn this period was formed a distinctive genre of rock music - Southern rock, and the greatest preformers were Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top.Psychedelic rock is probably the most important music genre formed in this period. It began developing in California. It is important because it will influence creating punk genre in the late 1970s. Key acts were The Grateful Dead, The Doors and Pink Floyd also experimented with this genre. This period in history is probably remembered by a sub-culture formed by the influences of rock music hippie. Hippies were very free spirited, used drugs (especially marijuana) and wore bright coloured and floral printed clothes.

The Progression of rock music ( late 1960s to 1970s)

This period is very important because it formed many rock genres and lead to forming famous punk music. Artists attempted to move beyond establishedmusical formulas by experimenting with different instruments, song types and forms. Instrumentals were common, while songs with lyrics were sometimes conceptual, abstract, or based infantasyandscience fiction. Greater commercial success was enjoyed by Pink Floyd, who also moved away from psychedelia after the departure of Syd Barrett in 1968, withThe Dark Side of the Moon (1973), seen as a masterpiece of the genre, becoming one of the best-selling albums of all time. This sub-genre is called progressive rock.Glam rock was also an interesting sub-genre formed in this period. It emerged in UK but quickly spread to US. It can be seen as much as a fashion as a musical sub-genre.Visually it was a mesh of various styles, ranging from 1930sHollywoodglamor, through 1950s pin-up sex appeal, pre-warCabarettheatrics,Victorianliterary andsymboliststyles, science fiction, to ancient and occultmysticismandmythology; manifesting itself in outrageous clothes, makeup, hairstyles, and platform-soled boots. Key preformers were: Alice Cooper, David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Rod Stewart, Elton John, Queen and Kiss. [footnoteRef:3] [3: Source - Wikipedia]

From the late 1960s it became common to devide mainstream rock into soft and hard rock. Hard rock-influenced bands that enjoyed international success in the later 1970s included Queen,Thin Lizzy,AerosmithandAC/DC.From the late 1960s the term heavy metal began to be used to describe some hard rock played with even more volume and intensity. Bands that played heavy metal were: Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Kiss.

Punk ( 1970s to 1980s )

U2Punk is probably one of the most important rock sub-genres. It is distinctive because it is fast, with short songs and minimalistic instrumentation. Lyrics were often anti-political and rebelious. Bands self-produced and distributed records themselves. It was formed in 1974, and quickly became a cultural phenomenon. Although it was popular in the US, it was always considered a genre that originated in the UK. For the most part, punk took root in local scenes that tended to reject association with the mainstream. In this period, MTv became popular and begun building it's empire.Biggest acts were: The Velvet Underground and U2.In this period new waves in heavy metal emerged. Bands that were carrying the new waves were Iron Maiden, Def Leppard and Van Halen.

Guns and RosesBy the mid-1980s bands were beginning to emerge from the L.A. scene that pursued a less glam image and a rawer sound, particularlyGuns N' Roses, breaking through with the chart-topping Appetite for Destruction (1987), and Jane's Addiction, who emerged with their major label debut Nothing's Shocking , the following year.In the late 1980s metal fragmented into several subgenres, includingthrash metal, which developed in the US. It was popularised by the "Big Four of Thrash": Metallica,Anthrax,Megadeth, andSlayer.American working-class oriented heartland rock, characterized by a straightforward musical style, and a concern with the lives of ordinary, blue collarAmerican people, developed in the second half of the 1970s. Key acts were Bruce Springsteen and Kid Rock.Punk culture was responsible for making goth and emo sub-culture. They both are distinctive because it's followers wear black clothes, heavy black make-up and almost always are addicted to a certain kind of drugs such as heroin. These people act very unkind and hardcore, associating only with people from their own group that share the same interests.

Alternative rock ( 1990s )

Roots of alternative rock are in 1980s with the band R.E.M., but the real development of alternative rock begins with grunge.

NirvanaGrunge is a sub-genre and a sub-culture. It is famous because of the dirty sound of the music and the unkempt appearance of most musicians, who actively rebelled against the over-groomed images of other artists.Grunge remained a local phenomenon until 1991, whenNirvanas Nevermind became a huge success thanks to the lead single Smells Like Teen Spirit. However, with thedeath of Kurt Cobainand the subsequent break-up of Nirvana in 1994, touring problems for Pearl Jam and the departure of Alice in Chains' lead singerLayne Staleyin 1996, the genre began to decline.

Red Hot Chilli PeppersAfter that Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl formed a band called The Foo Fighters and in 1994 Green Day was formed. They still make hit songs and are one of the most popular band ever. Also some bands that still play and make records were formed in this period Linkin Park, Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Korn and Slipknot. MTV became the biggest music channel and we can say that rock music, along with pop, was responsible for rise of MTV.

Pop

Pop musicis a term that originally derives from an abbreviation of popular. It's agenreofpopular musicwhich originated in its modern form in the 1950s, deriving fromrock and roll. Although not specifically applied until the middle of the 20th century, pop music as such can be traced by a few decades before that. Pop music is, in common with jazz, primarily an aural and improvised music. Pop and jazz represent parallel, yet only indirectly related developments, despite they're sharing a common folk music ancestry. Pop music initially drew its repertoire from the folk traditions of the US, and thus indirectly from previous African and European traditions. As a genre, pop music is often borrowing elements from other styles including urban, dance, rock, latin and country. However there are core elements which define pop. Such include generally short-to-medium length songs, written in a basic format (often theverse-chorus structure), as well as the common appearance of repeated choruses, melodic tunes, andcatchyhooks. So-called "pure pop" music, such aspower pop, features all these elements, usingelectric guitars, drumsandbassfor instrumentation;in the case of such music, the main goal is usually that of being pleasurable to listen to, rather than having much artistic depth. Pop music is generally thought of as a genre which is commercially recorded and desires to have a mass audience appeal.

The Crooners

The first major pop stars as such were the crooners of the 1930s and '40s. Bing Crosby sold millions of records, as did Frank Sinatra (arguably the first modern pop star), and in Britain, Al Bowly.

Frank SinatraThey recorded and performed with full orchestras in the main style of the day. But there were other vocals groups, such as the Mills Brothers and the Inkspots, whose harmonies set the standards for those aspiring to fame.

The Charts

Pop music charts as such didn't exist until 1952, when the first Top Twenty was recorded. It came at an interesting time, as "teenagers" really came into being. Historically there'd been no transitional period between childhood and adulthood. Rock'n'roll brought much more of that, and Elvis Presley became a global star, the biggest of the late 1950s and early 1960s. But he would find himself pushed out by the Beatles, who revolutionised pop by writing their own material, stimulating fashion that remains unmodified. From 1962 until their break up in 1970 they dominated the charts in Britain and America.

Post Beatles

The Beatles influenced a generation with their melodies and harmonies, and that was apparent in the 1970s, when pop careened through several styles, from the Glam Rock of T. Rex to the raw fire of punk. But the biggest pop star to emerge from the period was a singer and pianist - Elton John, whose popularity has remained constant. The idea of artists writing their own material remained in the wake of the Fab Four, although professional songwriters stayed in demand for those unable to pen a tune. From the early days of rock there had been "manufactured" stars - people taken on board for a pretty face rather than any natural talent, and made into stars by producers. It had happened to Adam Faith, Alvin Stardust and many others, most of whom only enjoyed short careers. The 1980s proved a dying decade for pop. Styles came and went, but it was an era short on memorable music. Only Wham! (and later George Michael) emerged as true pop stars.

Wham!Wham!were an English musical duo formed byGeorge MichaelandAndrew Ridgeleyin the early 1980s.

Wham!

Boy Bands

The 1990s was the time of boy bands, perhaps the ultimate in manufactured acts. A group of young male singers was assembled for their looks, given catchy songs and arrangements and pushed to fame. It happened to East 17 and, most memorably, Take That. America saw how it worked and gave the world the Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync. For a few years it worked very well, selling millions of records. But like any fashion, it passed. A female version, the Spice Girls, was briefly huge. Notably, the only ones to come out of this and sustain a solo career was Robbie Williams from Take That and Justin Timberlake from 'N Sync.America tried a similar tactic with female pop stars, and both Mariah Carey and Britney Spears became massive manufactured stars, followed to a lesser degree by Christina Aguilera.

'N SyncThe New MillenniumSince the year 2000 there's been a death of major new stars, relying mostly on established talent. Several younger artists have come and gone, and new styles have briefly emerged, but nothing appears to have gained a major foothold besides modern R&B, which owes little to its soulful predecessor, but a lot to hip-hop - which itself has become a pop style.

Greatest pop starsMadonna

MadonnaMadonna started in 1984 as a disco chick with a reasonably well-received debut album to her name, and then she released Like a Virgin. Although it also combined nightclub-friendly beats with catchy melodies, its tone was dramatically different. A woman in control of her life and career was such a new idea that Madonna became the biggest thing to hit pop. She also performed in the music groups Emmy and Breakfast club. Since 1982 she released a series of successful albums, including theGrammy AwardwinnersRay of Light(1998) andConfessions on a Dance Floor(2005). Many of her songs peaked atop record charts, including Like a Virgin, Into the Groove, Papa Don't Preach, Like a Prayer, Vogue, Frozen, Music, Hung Up, and 4 Minutes. She attained immense popularity by pushing the boundaries of lyrical content in mainstream popular music and imagery in hermusic videos, which became a fixture onMTV.Her music and style has influencednumerous artists around the world. Madonna is considered byForbesas acultural iconand she is often referred to by the international media as the Queen of Pop.Michael Jackson

Michael JacksonThe eighth child of theJackson family, he debuted on the professional music scene along with his brothers as a member of The Jackson 5in 1964, and began his solo career in 1971. In the early 1980s, Jackson became the dominant figure inpopular music. The music videos for his songs, including those of Beat It, Billie Jean and Thriller, were credited with breaking down racial barriers and with transforming the medium into an art form and promotional tool. The popularity of these videos helped to bring the then-relatively-new television channelMTVto fame. With videos such as Black or White and Scream, he continued to innovate the medium throughout the 1990s, as well as forging a reputation as a touring solo artist. Through stage and video performances, Jackson popularized a number of complicated dance techniques, such as therobotand themoonwalk, to which he gave the name. His distinctive sound and style has influenced numerouship hop,post-disco,contemporary R&B,pop, androckartists.Jackson's 1982 albumThrilleris thebest-selling album of all time.Jackson including his changingappearance, personal relationships, and behavior, was accused of child sexual abuse twice, which generated controversy. He was free of all charges. While preparing for his comeback concert series titledThis Is It, Jacksondiedof intoxication on June 25th, 2009, after suffering from cardiac arrest. Jackson's death triggered a global outpouring of grief and a live broadcast of hispublic memorial servicewas viewed around the world. No matter what happened in Michael Jacksons private life, there is no doubt that he will always be remembered in the history of pop; his songs are the summary of popular, mainstream music.

According to several sources,MTVhelped give rise topop starssuch asMichael Jackson and Madonna and they helped make MTV. Rap

Rapping refers to spoken or chanted rhyming lyrics. The art form can be broken down into different components, as in the book How to Rap where it is separated into content, flow (rhytm and rhyme), and delivery. Rapping is distinct from spoken word poetry in that it is performed in time to a beat. Rapping is often associated with and a primary ingredient of hip hop music and reggae, but the phenomenon predates hip hop culture by centuries. It can also be found in alternative rock such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Rapping is also used in Kwaito music a genre that originated in Johanesburg, South Africa and is composed of hip hop elements. Rapping can be delivered over a beat or without accompaniment. Stylistically, rap occupies a gray area between speech, prose, poetry, and singing. The word (meaning originally "to hit") as used to describe quick speech or repartee predates the musical form.Rap is food for the soul as many describe it. Rap is a lifestyle; it means different things to different people. The beauty of rap is the fact of relating it with an individual. People often wonder as to why rap sounds aggressive and revolves around miserable circumstances. Well, that's because there were and are troubled times in people's lives. The music is what inspires people through struggles in life. Similarly, rapping about champagne, cars and partying is very much of a lifestyle too. It's a feel-good factor in this case. There is no right and wrong when it comes to music. Rapping can be traced back to its African roots. Centuries before hip hop music existed, the people of West Africa were delivering stories rhytmically, over drums and sparse instrumentation. Such connections have been acknowledged by many modern artists, spoken word artists, mainstream news sources, and academics.Rap initially was the result of all the pain, miseries and frustration suffered by the people. It was reality. There's no denying that Africans and African-Americans have been wronged through time. Rebel music has been known to have marked its presence during these times.Say there's a white kid who lives in a nice home, goes to an all-white school, and is pretty much having everything handed to him on a platter - for him to pick up a rap tape is incredible to me, because what that's saying is that he's living a fantasy life of rebellion.[footnoteRef:4] [4: Eminem's quote ]

Tupac ShakurAlong came the legendary and controversial rapper - Tupac Shakur. Born to a Black Panther family, his rap and philosophy were inspired from the social atrocities faced by the Blacks. He rapped about police brutality, poverty, racism and social abuse. His music was shaped with aggression, slangs and extremity; an object of criticism. His rap depicted the lifestyle of the Blacks "on the street" - raw, bold and uncensored.I'm 23 years old. I might just be my mother's child, but in all reality, I'm everybody's child. Nobody raised me; I was raised in this society.[footnoteRef:5] [5: Tupac's quote]

Soon, during this time followed the East Coast/West Coast feud, which was blown out of proportion arising from differences between Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac, and marked a war amongst record labels (read Deathrow records and Bad Boy Records) and led to the East Coast/West Coast feud, as the rappers spared no chance of taking digs at each other through their songs and the media. Both these rappers were murdered following these events, unfortunately. The ten greatest East Coast rappers of all time are: DMX, Big L, Big Pun, Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane, LL Cool J, Jay-z, The Notorious B.I.G., Rakim, Nas.The ten greatest West Coast rappers of all time are: Kuruot, Ras Kass, Cypress Hill, E-40, DJ Quik, Ice-T, Too $hort, Snoop Dogg, 2pac, N.W.A.

The Notorious B.I.G.Tupac Shakur

From gangsta to modern rap Shortly after, "Gangsta rap" emerged, and then began a carryover of all the past events and Gangsta rap become a rage. In the late 1980s and early 90s, the music rose to fame commercially. With this, also grew the dominance of record labels. Almost everybody wanted to be a Gangsta rapper.Gangsta rap was majorly criticized for the references made about vandalism, sex, profanity, drug use and social vices. Much to the contrast, poetry in rap songs gradually started fading and was majorly influenced by materialism and commercialism. Modern-day rap has seen great artists like Ludacris, 50 Cent, Damien Marely, Jay-Z, Nas, L.L. Cool J, also female artists like Missy Elliot and Lil' Kim have entered the scene in a big way. Today, Eminem is widely recognized with the genre of rap and has been producing tracks consistently. His dedication to rap still remains unwavering.

EminemMarshall Bruce Mathers III was born in Missouri, USA. Son of a 15-year-old mother at the time of his birth and a father who left six month later never to return, Marshall spent his early childhood being shoved back and forth from Kansas City. At the age of 14, he began to get very serious about his rapping but it wasn't until he was 17 that he actually made a name for himself, becoming M&M, which he would later respell as "Eminem". Being rejected by most fellow rappers because of his race, Marshall grew an anger that flows through his music to this day. After failing the 9th grade for three times in a row, he quit school, but remarks that he doesn't consider himself stupid and doesn't advise that people should follow his example. He says that it just wasn't for him. Forcing himself on radio shows, freestyle battles, Marshall threw himself head first into the rap game, where he was swallowed up most of the time. His very first album was titled Infinite and, while the album sold less than a thousand copies, it was the gearing up stages for the rapper who later became a millionaire. He went into the 1997 Rap Olympics in Los Angeles, basically hoping to win the $1,500 cash price which he badly needed. After battling for an hour and throwing back every race diss thrown at him, Marshall made it to second place losing in a slip up. Furious that he had lost, Marshall didn't even notice that he had been spotted. In the crowd were a few producers from Interscope, and they were handed a copy of the Infinite tape by way of a demo.Dr. Dregot to hear it and tracked him down. The two recorded four songs in their first six hours of working - three which made it to his first LP. After the album was finished,Dr. Dreasked Marshall to come work with him on his new album. That was the start of a new era. Eminem posted hits, after hits, and amazed huge audiances. His music touched a lot of kids living a tough life. Every song sends a message to the world, gives kids the streghth and hope that they can make it, just like he did. Eminem isn't just a rapper, he's a poet with a hard lifestory. While Eminem may have seemed like a novelty act at first-with his shocking, four-letter lyrics, cartoonish bad-boy image, and, pale skin color - he has since established himself as one of the most important artists of his time and a true force to be reckoned with, continuing to cross both color boundaries and genre boundaries with his edgy, rock-tinged raps. With his turbulent personal life, powder-keg temper, and tendency to tangle with the law, it is still uncertain how long his career will last before he burns out, but it's already obvious that his music had made history and will long outlast any controversy that dogs him.

Electronic music

Electronic music is music that employs electronic musical instruments and electronic music technology in its production. In general a distinction can be made between sound produced using electromechanical means and that produced using electronic technology. Electronic sound production can be achieved using devices such as the Theremin, sound synthesizer, and computer. Today electronic music includes many varieties and ranges from experimental art music to popular forms such as electronic dance music. This music is made by DJs with typically loud and continuous beats. It has been on the rise recently and has been integrated into mainstream radio and television. Many young people believe EDM[footnoteRef:6] is more than a music genre for some it has become a lifestyle. Hardcore EDM fans revolve their lives around the music, shows, and artists. The reason why EDM is so important and life changing is because of the different things you experience and learn from the music and the festivals. [6: EDM stands for electronic dance music]

The EDM community does not discriminate against any color, shape or size. There are no judgments at these festivals but rather a culture based off of the idea of PLUR. PLUR stands for peace, love, unity and respect. The EDM world lives by PLUR, not only at raves but also in their everyday life. No one is treated like an outsider. It is a community made up of numerous types of people, where everyone is kind and accepting of one another.Teenagers are clearly drawn to these types of festivals. The music stars, who are their heroes, and even celebrities who once seemed to promote a family-friendly image. These festivals are also known for drug abuse. Young people lose themselves in the loud music with a little help of drugs. There is a popular drug called Molly, also known as ectasy.

Top EDM festivals

1. Movement: Electronic Music Festival Detroit, Michigan in May from 25th to May 27th.When it comes to electronic music, there's no disputing that Detroit is where it all began. Each Memorial Day Weekend, EDM's hometown hosts a spectacular showcase of the genre's very best and brightest acts.

2. Mutek Montreal, Quebec ftom 29 May to 2 June.Since 2000, Montreals electronic-centered MUTEK festival has been bringing innovative performances and artist collaborations to one of North Americas coolest cities.

3. Spring Awakening FestivalChicago, Illinois in June from 14th to June 16th. Spring Awakening touts itself as Chicago's premier EDM Festival, and its lineup certainly backs this bold claim. David Guetta

David GuettaAt the beginning of his career, working as a DJ at nightclubs during the '80s and '90s years, the production company founded Gum Productions and released his debut album Just a Little More Love in 2001. Later Guetta released Blaster (2004) And Pop Life (2007). His album One Love from 2009 includes the single Sexy Bitch, a duet with Akon, which became a hit peaking at a top 10 ranking in the USA. Guetta has worked with a variety of performers including pop band Black Eyed Peas, Britney Spears, Chris Willis, Kelly Rowland, will.i.am, Lil Wayne, Madonna, Kid Cudi, Flo Rida, Shakira, and many others. In the year 2010 he was nominated for five Grammy Awards, of which he won one.
