The 2nd New Zealand Breast Cancer Symposium

13 - 15 NOVEMBER 2021 NZBCS – 2020 POSTPONED UNTIL NOVEMBER 2021 LATEST COVID-19 UPDATE FROM NEW ZEALAND BREAST AND CANCER SYMPOSIUM ORGANISERS: Please note that NZBCS-2020 has been postponed to November 2021 due to the current Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. So far, there are more than 2.5 million people have been infected by the virus in the world and approximately 170,000 people have died from the infection. For the safety of our speakers and other participants, the Organising Committee has decided to postpone the NZBCS-2020 to next year. As a result, the conference will be renamed as the Second New Zealand Breast Cancer Symposium in 2021 (NZBCS-2021), which will be held in Auckland, New Zealand from 13-15th November 2021. More details will be announced late this year. We apologise for any inconveniences that this change may cause to you for your travel arrangements and look forward to your continuing support of the NZBCS-2021.

DR HELEN KEEN is a leader in her field and the head of Rheumatology at both the South Metropolitan Health Service and the East Metropolitan Health Service.

DR HELEN KEEN is a clinical rheumatologist and early career researcher, having been awarded her PhD (Leeds) in 2011. She is the head of both the South and East Metropolitan Health Services Rheumatology service and holds a conjoint position as a Consultant in Rheumatology at Fiona Stanley Hospital and as Senior Lecturer in the School of Medicine and Pharmacology, University of Western Australia. She is a member of the Clinical Senate that advises

the Director General of Health on solutions to clinical management issues within WA, and a foundation

member of the Western Australia Biobank Committee.

Helen began her rheumatology training in Perth, where she

was exposed to pharmaceutical-driven clinical trials, and first

trained in GCP. She then was exposed to NHMRC-

funded RCT trials during a fellowship in Adelaide.

This exposure to clinical research led to her pursuing a 3-year fellowship at the University of Leeds, world renowned

experts in rheumatology clinical trials. In this setting, she had extensive training in clinical trials, outcome methodology, and imaging. She was involved in many clinical trials, with particular relevance to developing outcome tools and optimising outcomes for patients with rheumatic diseases. Helen was the first to systematically investigate the role and validity of US as an imaging outcome tool in osteoarthritis, a research field that is now growing. She was awarded an OMERACT (Outcomes Measures in Rheumatology Clinical Trails) fellowship (2006-2008) to further develop her expertise in imaging as an outcome tool. Helen is now a co-chair of the OMERACT ultrasound group, contributing to imaging research.
