Many researchers advocate acve local government responses to poverty. In doing so, they raise a generally unexplored queson: can local governments themselves influence poverty net of other determinants? Please join Dr. Mark Partridge as he explores the degree to which county government capacity and economic development policies relate to disparies in job growth, individual and child poverty, and household income. Mark Partridge is the Swank Chair of Rural-Urban Policy at Ohio State University. He is a Faculty Research Affiliate, City- Region Studies Centre, University of Alberta and an adjunct professor at the University of Saskatchewan. Professor Par- tridge is Co-Editor of the Journal of Regional Science and is the Co-editor of the Springer Briefs in Regional Science as well as serves on the editorial boards of Annals of Regional Science, Growth and Change, Leers in Spaal and Resource Sciences, The Review of Regional Studies, and Region et De- veloppement. He has published over 100 scholarly papers and coauthored the book The Geography of American Poverty: Is there a Role for Place-Based Policy? Professor Partridge has received research funding from many sources including the Appalachian Regional Commission, Brookings Instuon, Eu- ropean Commission, Infrastructure Canada, Lincoln Instute of Land Policy, U.S. Naonal Science Foundaon, U.S. Naonal Oceanic and Atmospheric Administraon, and Social Science and Humanies Research Council of Canada. His research in- cludes invesgang rural-urban interdependence and regional growth and policy. Dr. Partridge served as President of the Southern Regional Science Associaon.
