Semester-long Global Site Opportunities – Pilot Program “Global Faculty Fellows” Guidelines and Application for Spring 2017 Deadlines All Application with all Materials Notification Application for Spring 2017 January 30, 2016 March 1, 2016 As a pilot program, the Office of Global Programs will sponsor one full-time New York faculty member each semester to be a Global Faculty Fellow at one of NYU's academic centers abroad. The purpose of the program is to provide an opportunity for faculty to help develop new academic programs, enhance our global connections and/or provide sites with course offerings by New York faculty members. Semester assignments are determined by a variety of factors including faculty qualifications, school and department academic priorities, pathway facilitation and plans for deepening school and departmental engagement with the site. Additional contributing factors are local laws, site availability and site resources. This application form is for faculty participation in the pilot Global Faculty Fellows program at the sites. Faculty leading student trips to the sites or wishing to teach at the degree-granting portal campuses (NYU Abu Dhabi and NYU Shanghai) should consult directly with their department/school. Faculty seeking support for research-related activities at the sites under the auspices of the Global Research Initiatives program can find application forms here. Faculty interested in a short term visit to a global site can find information here. Eligibility All New York- based full-time faculty from all schools in any academic discipline represented at the University are eligible. Faculty with administrative titles are not eligible to apply for the duration of their administrative appointment. Preference will be given to faculty whose home school or department has an emerging or an established academic relationship with the requested site. Responsibilities of the Global Faculty Fellow* Teach at least one class (if appropriate/relevant) Develop programmatic initiatives, including new course offerings or academic pathways Give one public lecture in area of expertise Join the Site-Specific Academic Committee (SSAC) for the site (for only the duration of the assignment) Hold regular office hours and advising hours during add-drop, in lead-up to registration and as needed Participate in at least one video-conference with New York home department and/or Office of Global Programs *Note that local laws may affect the expectations of faculty at specific sites.

The Selection Committee The selection committee is comprised of four members: two faculty who sit on different Site Specific Academic Committees, a local faculty member from one of the sites, and a Site Director from a different site. A representative from the Office of Global Programs will assist in an administrative capacity.

Summary of Resources Available to Faculty Fellows Academic Shipment

Each faculty member will receive up to $500 of shipping expenses for academic materials.

Benefits, including Health Insurance

Benefits will not be affected and faculty should expect to receive similar benefits as in New York. The Office of Global Programs will cover the incremental insurance costs associated with enhanced global health insurance.

Compensation and benefits will be subject to the same terms as the tax protection policy of NYU as is in effect from time to time. As is normally expected, all personal tax filing requirements, including for your country of residence and any associated foreign jurisdictions, such as the global academic center jurisdiction(s), is the responsibility of the individual.

Excess Baggage Fees

Each faculty member will be provided up to $300 to cover any excess baggage fees or shipping expenses for personal items.

Housing Each faculty member will be provided with a one-bedroom apartment for the duration of the semester teaching assignment.

Immigration and Visas

Each faculty member will be supported by NYU’s Office of Global Services throughout the visa and immigration process. All immigration-related expenses will be covered by the Office of Global Programs. Faculty will be responsible for obtaining any required visa and immigration documents.

Please note: NYU is committed to facilitating the participation of faculty members at any of the global sites. However, as in the US, individuals must lawfully enter host countries under prevailing local immigration laws, which NYU does not control.

Professional Development

Each faculty member teaching at a global site will receive an additional one-time $1,000 stipend from the Office of Global Programs to assist with living expenses and professional development opportunities.

Relocation Travel Each faculty member will receive one round trip ticket per semester between New York and the site. All travel will be booked in accordance with the Office of Global Programs travel policy.

Workspace at the Site

Faculty will have access to a private or shared workspace, depending on the site.

APPLICATION

Please include the following materials as part of your application package:

• A project statement, of no more than two double-spaced pages, describing the programunder development with a statement of purpose, scope and desired outcome. Pleaseinclude a description of any courses you might propose to teach and how your semester atthe global site will 1) enhance your department’s/school’s engagement with the site, 2)further develop the curricular pathway and 3) enrich the current academic curriculum at theglobal site.

• A full CV showing education and training, research and professional experience, publicationsand a list of courses taught for the past 5 years, including course enrollment and notatingany new courses that you developed.

• Proposed strategies your department/school is prepared to undertake to support theestablishment of an academic pathway.

• Approval statement from the department chair(s).• Brief approval statement from school dean.
