ACC ‘B’ DIVISION ATHLETICS SQUAD - SPECIALIST TRAINING CLINICS I am now very much looking forward to the ACC Athletics season in Term 3, where once again it will be the depth of the Squad and the students’ commitment to training which will see us succeed. Our aim from the outset this year is to win ‘B’ Division following last year’s third place finish in our first year in this division and gain promotion to ‘A’ Division for 2015.
I have been impressed with a number of Year 7 students already in Physical Education Athletics lessons and it would appear we will have an even stronger squad with further depth this coming season.

2013 ACC Athletics Squad
ACC ATHLETICS HIGH JUMP TRAINING CLINIC & PRACTICE ACC Athletics High Jump training clinic and ‘Provisional‘ selections will commence on Thursdays in Week 8 & Week 9, Term 2. Mrs Norton will be head High Jump Coach.
These will run from 3.15pm – 4.15pm at School.
Students have been selected for this opportunity; however, all
interested students wanting to try out for the Squad should attend. The High Jump is a specialist event for which students need confidence and practice. We often do well at High Jump due to our training sessions and correct selection of students. If students can attain the targets below they will usually be in the top two places overall at the ACC Carnival.
ACC ATHLETICS HURDLES TRAINING CLINIC & PRACTICE ACC Athletics Hurdles training clinic and ‘Provisional‘ selections will commence on Thursdays in Week 8 & Week 9, Term 2.
These will run from 3.15pm – 4.15pm at School.
Students have been selected for this opportunity; however, all interested students wanting to try out for the Squad should attend. The Hurdles are also a specialist event for which students need confidence and practice. We often do well at
Hurdles due to our training sessions and correct selection of students. Success in the Hurdles sets the tone for the whole day and overall success of the Squad.
Continued success is dependent upon a number of intangible targets:
1. Students regularly attending School training demonstrating ‘Dedication & Hardwork’
2. Our ACC Squad students exhibiting ‘Ambition’ to compete and excel in their events
3. Senior students being reliable when acting as Sports Leaders who give guidance and advice to Junior students 4. The coaching and teaching received by our students is of high quality with committed PE staff. 5. Junior and Senior students being reliable as our ACC Squads are cohesive groups of talented sporting students who all
contribute to the overall success 6. Students having individual specific goals, roles and responsibilities which they understand 7. Students being knowledgeable of the high standards associated with ACC Sport 8. Parental support is received and many students participate in Community Sporting Clubs in addition to Inter-School Sport
WINTER CAS SPORT – JUNIOR ROUND 1 REPLAY VS. IMCC (postponed) It was a very successful round last week in the local derby vs. Irene McCormack in the replay of Junior matches which were postponed from Round 1 due to bad weather. The Junior Boys and Year 7 Girls Soccer Teams both drew; however, all other teams won, with a superb late goal from Indya Golding to secure a victory in the Junior Girls Soccer match. If the season was to finish last week, we would be tied with St. Mark’s for first place, so every win, draw, loss, forfeit, goal for and goal against counts if we are to secure Champion Winter School for the third successive year (goal difference will matter in some cases). Great to see we still have seven teams on track for Finals!
Seven points are gained if the team is top of the ladder, one point is gained if you are bottom so every ladder placing matters when it is this close. We should have a slightly easier last two rounds than St. Mark’s. If the team finishes top of the ladder, they will have a home Final; however, if they lose the final you do only get the six points for second place. Alternatively, if you finish second on the ladder and win the Final, you gain the maximum seven points.

The Year 7 Boys played their rearranged fixture with the ‘Soccer Specialist School’ Irene McCormack on a glorious sunny day. The game was anticipated to be a close affair but the team started strongly. A great move with Morgan Cooper taking on the left back before squaring the ball to Rais Aluwi for a simple tap in. This set the tone for a one sided affair with a resounding 11-0 victory! This was later changed to 7-0 due to the ‘Mercy Rule’ being invoked.
Great credit must go to all players, but especially Rais Aluwi who finished the game with a hat-trick and three assists, Callum Harland who also scored a hat-trick, two goals of which came as a defender as well as hitting the post twice, Morgan Cooper who scored two goals and had a number of assists. Jonny Kilgallon and Charlie Fielding both grabbed a goal and were involved in much of the attacking play.
The squad is based upon a strong commitment from all players and their determination at the back was also impressive to win the ball back with Aidan Freestone, Zac Nicholson, Matthew Ellis and Ryan Waldron all key in this area and meant that Goal Keeper, Ollie Bennett only had one save to make.
The boys sit firmly on top of the ladder with two more important games against St. Stephens. Hopefully with two more wins they can approach finals in first position with a great chance of taking the title in a home match.
Phil Carr (Year 7 Boys Soccer Team Coach)
A hard-fought game by the Junior Boys Soccer Team today; Marshall Burgoyne (Capt.) took control of the team, organising positions and communicating well on the pitch. Brandon Buchanan scored 2 goals (one lovely strike to beat the keeper and one penalty) but missed another clear chance with an open goal, hitting the crossbar and bouncing back down to a scrambling keeper. IMCC managed a penalty shot and levelled the game 2-2 with another free kick and subsequent header in the last 30 seconds of the game. Valiantly played and the boys were disappointed to only draw!
Linden Davis (who coached the Junior Boys Soccer Team last week)
A number of teams are still very much in contention for the Grand Finals in Week 10. Up-to-date ladders can be found at: http://www.metisc.com.au/iscoresn/index.cfm?db=5&foid=4
SENIOR FIXTURE REMINDER – WEEK 8 LJBC have forfeited fixtures on Thursday 12th June. Due to recent exams, remember that in Week 8 the Senior Teams are playing St. Marks on Monday 16th June (away). This does not apply to Year 10 Girls Netball as they played St. Mark’s as scheduled.
WEST COAST EAGLES PLAYERS VISIT & COACHING SESSION
On Monday 16th June during Periods 4 & 5, the Year 10 Football Sports Leaders, the Junior Boys Football Team, and the Year 7 Boys Football Team have been invited to meet some Professional AFL players from the West Coast Eagles Football Club. They will also deliver a coaching session. We were lucky enough to be selected following a School nomination request for players to visit the School and conduct a coaching clinic. As part of the West Perth Football District, and competing in Inter-School Football we are eligible for this opportunity and in the past we have had visits from the Fremantle Dockers.

Objective of AFL Player Visits to Primary and Secondary Schools: To provide information and encourage children to participate in Junior/Youth football, as well as physical activity generally, and give older children reasons to stay involved with the game. By being involved in school visits and game development activities, players encourage children to be interested in Australian football and emphasise the benefits associated of playing a sport such as teamwork, leadership and resilience. My thanks to Mr Boucher for arranging this incursion which I am sure our young aspiring players will look forward to. All School Football players are asked to attend School in perfect PE Uniform on Monday 16th June in order to participate in the Coaching Clinic.
JUNIOR BOYS FOOTBALL TEAM RESULT Peter Moyes ACS defeat Clarkson CHS by forfeit.
YEAR 7 BOYS FOOTBALL FRIENDLIES & PROVISIONAL TEAM SELECTION It is the hope that following a number of training sessions, the Year 7 Boys Football Team will have some potential friendlies vs. St. Mark’s, Prendiville or Irene McCormack in Weeks 8 or 9 and Week 1 (Term 3) in readiness for the ACC Year 7 Boys Carnival in Week 2 of Term 3. The Year 7 Boys alongside have been ‘Provisionally’ selected to the Team:
ACC ATHLETICS SQUAD – COMMUNITY SERVICE –NOMINATIONS OPEN! The ACC ‘B’ Division Athletics Carnival is held at the State Athletics Stadium, Claremont, on Thursday 18th September.
The Community Service Sports Leadership program has been very successful. Many of our Senior School students have accrued hours towards their graduation, while refereeing, umpiring, assisting coaching, and mentoring some of our Middle School students. This develops responsibility, assertiveness, decision making and communication skills.
As Senior student role models, this is an incredibly important job which assists with the success of Inter-School Sport.
Nominations are now open for Senior students (& selected Year 9 students) to assist with the forth coming ACC Athletics training. Places are limited to complete your Community Service at Peter Moyes Athletics Training in Term 3, 2014.
So far a number of students have already enquired and been accepted to act as Athletics Sports Leaders including Steven Oakes, Ross Godwin, Francine Van Den Berg, Alicia Hortle, Susan Majok, Liam Van Der Spuy, Aniesha Bennett and Delaney Smith.
Students will be chosen based upon the attributes they exhibit in and around School. They will also require a fundamental knowledge of Athletic events. Students must opt for a specialist event of their preference and must commit for the duration of the training period from Week 5 onwards. Most students who nominate will have experience of representing the School at ACC Athletics whilst they were in Year 7-9, and are likely to be in the ACC Athletics Squad. You will be assisting a staff member with coaching, training and organisation. You will also be offered the opportunity to attend the ACC Athletics Carnival as a Marshall (if not competing). A minimum of 10 hours will be accrued if you nominate to be a Junior Athletics Coach. Student Community Service Contracts can be found on the Sports Noticeboards in Senior School, or speak to Mr. B. Streeter with any questions. All squad and training enquiries should be directed to Mr. B. Streeter.
