  • FINAL’ ACC CROSS COUNTRY SQUAD

Well done to all students who represented the School at the SSWA Cross Country Carnival last week – full results are online at: http://www.schoolsportwa.com.au. Following superb attendance at training, and the SSWA Cross Country Carnival last Friday, the ‘Final’ ACC Cross Country Squad is now published. We had four students qualify for the WA State Cross Country Team – an excellent achievement at what is the premier Schools’ Cross Country Competition including the best individual students from PSA, IGSSA, ACC and State Schools:

Savannah Steinbach (1st U16 Girls; Squad Capt.)

Sam Rayner (5th U17 Boys; Squad Capt.)

    Georgia Morgan (6th U13 Girls)

Caylin Sam (10th U15 Girls) Credit must also be given for the times achieved by the following students: BOYS: Kaj Kremer (21st), Kyle Main, Ross Godwin, Daniel Gregory, Oliver Martin, Joe Bibby, Richard Hynes, Jayden Harriman, Ben Jones, Ewan Fawcett (22nd), Arnav Sinha, Luke Kelly, David Fagen, Dylan Woolford, Ethan Campbell, Alistair McCoy, Ethan James, Jonny Kilgallon & Rohan Elliott GIRLS: Tyla Steinbach (11th), Caitlyn Knight (16th), Lucy McCorkindale (28th), Cassidy Smith, Megan Fishwick, Katie Robertson, Emily Watson & Olivia Fowler The U13 Girls were State Age Group Champions. Tomorrow sees the culmination of the Cross-Country season with the ACC Carnival being held at Perry Lakes and Alderbury Reserve. Students have been selected as a result of training attendance, attitude, improvement, and their performance at the SSWA Carnival and Inter-House Carnival. We are going to be highly competitive across all age groups this year and are aiming high towards a Top 5 finish, and potentially a Top 3!!! Parents of students selected have been e-mailed their son or daughter’s allocated event and age group. The programme of events can also be found at the Schools Sports Webpage: http://www.petermoyes.wa.edu.au/default.aspx?MenuID=22. It has been pleasing to see senior students accommodate the logistical difficulties of their examinations and excursions while we have been selecting the best possible Squad for the ACC Carnival. Many thanks to Mr. Gregory, Mr. Thomson and Mrs. Lok who assisted as parental volunteers. I would also like to thank Mr. McCorkindale who has assisted at Squad training every Monday and Friday. Paul Heywood who is the Head Coach of Joondalup Track Club also trains a number of our students who attained State selection. If you have any interest in joining the Club, please contact me.

  • WINTER CAS SPORT – ROUND 3 A reminder that Senior games postponed will now be played on Monday 16th June at St. Mark’s. New fixtures are online, in last week’s Sports News and have been given to students.

Against St Mark’s, all Junior Soccer Teams won comfortably; however, the Junior Girls only won 1 – 0 which is often far more satisfying than a dominant game. Well done Girls and special mention to Lauren Ellis (Vice Capt.) who went to support the team with the injury she sustained last week. Great School spirit!!! The Year 7 Girls and Junior Boys Soccer results were entered at 7 – 0 due to enforcement of the ‘Mercy Rule’.

The Year 8 Girls Netball Team had a convincing win away meaning they are still unbeaten throughout their time at Peter Moyes to date. Well done Girls.

The Year 7 Netball Team played with excellent defence; however, a small deficit they conceded in the first quarter could not be overcome. They closed the gap to just 2 goals towards the end, but could not draw level. The team had both Alex Morgan (Injury WA) and Michelle Bester (Illness GA) missing which was unfortunate, but it was an excellent performance. Megan Fishwick and Ellie Walters both stared in defence holding a high scoring St. Mark’s to a low season total. I suspect we may meet them in the Grand Final where I hope we have a full roster which will strengthen our attack. Natasha Amos grew in confidence as the game progressed, and Isla Thompson, Emily Watt and Ella Tudor-Roberts all played well.

In the Year 9 Netball match the team played the St. Mark’s team they have met for the last two years in the Grand Final It was another close affair. We missed our GS Ashlee Dullard due to illness in a narrow loss. Again, I suspect that we will meet them in the Grand Final for the third consecutive year with the current tally at one win each!!!

After a very overcast day the sun finally started shining at 4pm for the Year 7 boys Soccer vs. St. Marks ACS. The game was a good contest built on the same strong defence, with good counter attacking. The final score was 5-0 to Peter Moyes. Callum Harvey and Matthew Ellis gave Ollie Bennett (GK) a very quiet day at the office, securing a well-deserved clean sheet. Goal Scorers were Charlie

Fielding (1), Jonny Kilgallon (1), Rais Aluwi (1), Ethan Hawkins (1) and an Own Goal after a devilish cross by Morgan Cooper. Special mention should go to Rais Aluwi who as Captain demonstrated great initiative going forward providing two assists whilst also getting back to defend stoutly. Next week sees us away at Lake Joondalup Baptist which should be a good contest.

Mr Carr (Year 7 Boys Soccer Coach)

Well done to all players and teams

this week against an always competitive St. Mark’s. We have now played probably the two of the toughest opponents in the CAS Division of Schools with some pleasing results overall which bodes well for Grand Final qualification for a number of our teams. COMMUNITY SPORT NEWS - Karate For many, karate it is a life-long commitment. It offers fitness, competitiveness, self defence, discipline, self respect, respect for others and companionship. Two students who have displayed great commitment to karate are Preston Jones (7.6) and Jordan Bruce (7.2). They have been selected to represent WA as members of the WA Karate Federation State Team and will compete in the National Karate Championships to be held in Perth in August 2014. In addition to their normal training Preston and Jordan train with the State Squad every Saturday.

Congratulations to both and good luck for the Championships. Bernie Streeter Inter-School Sports Coordinator 9304 5590

Year 6 Lighting Carnival The Year 6 Lightning Carnival continued this week with some exciting games against St Luke’s and Brighton Catholic Primary Schools.

The Boys’ Soccer team continued to dominate, showing exceptional skills and tenacity, proving to be a competitive team. The Girls’ Soccer team is also playing well with two close games; drawing with Brighton and winning against St Luke’s. The Netball teams have achieved good wins with some excellent shooting skills displayed. The girls have shown great team support, encouraging each other and using good communication skills. Thank you to Michelle Bushell and Martena Lawson for your continual support and expertise coaching these teams. The mixed Hockey and League Tag teams are strong, winning their games with agility and speed. The AFL Boys started well against St Luke’s with Jack McGahy shining in the midfield and Matthew Potter kicking the first goal. The boys are working hard and showing determination and great sportsmanship. Congratulations to all teams on your success and commitment so far!

Next week we play St Marks’ Anglican Community School. Teams travelling to St Marks’ are AFL (played at Belrose Oval, right next door to St Mark’s), Boys’ Soccer and Netball 1. Here at home, we have the League Tag playing Lake Joondalup Baptist Catholic Primary School and the Girls’ Soccer, Hockey and two Netball teams up against St Mark’s Anglican Community School. The following week there is a break from fixtures as our busy Year 6 Students’ will be away on camp.

I hope you enjoy some action photos from the last two weeks of fixtures.
