Tattoo removal treatments Newcastle Dermatology offers cosmetic laser tattoo removal to patients who are looking to remove or fade an existing tattoo.

Our highly qualified clinical practitioners will be able to discuss with you the best option to remove your tattoo in the safest and most effective way.

It is likely that a number of treatments will be required to remove your tattoo. This will depend on the size, colour and density of your tattoo.

The number of treatments will be discussed with you at your initial consultation.

How does laser tattoo removal work?Lasers used in this treatment target the ink pigment in the skin.

The laser energy targets the pigment of the tattoo directly, breaking down the ink into tiny fragments, which the body absorbs and disposes of.

Sessions can last between 10-30 minutes, depending on the size of the tattoo.

You should leave at least 6-8 weeks between treatments.

Your clinician will be able to discuss any concerns you may have about the risks of laser tattoo removal with you at your consultation.

Hair removal treatmentsHair removal by laser can help those with normal hair growth, but also those with excessive hair growth of the body or face, a condition called hirsutism.

Our clinical experts will be able to discuss with you your expectations of hair removal treatment and a full explanation of the treatment process will be provided.

How does laser hair removal work?Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment within the hair (melanin), which then destroys the hair and the hair follicle.

Grey or white hair has no melanin so it cannot be effectively treated.

It is likely that a number of treatments will be required to remove unwanted hair.

Your clinician will be able to advise the possible number of treatments you may need to remove any unwanted hair.

Your clinician will be able to discuss any concerns you may have about the risks of laser hair removal with you at your consultation.

Skin rejuvenation: broken blood vesselsBroken blood vessels can appear on the face and other parts of the body, most commonly located at the nose, chin or cheeks.

Laser treatments are one of the most effective treatments to reduce the appearance of broken blood vessels.

Broken blood vessels usually appear as a result of ageing, pregnancy, sun damage and Rosacea.

How does laser blood vessel removal work? The visible blood vessels are removed using the light from the laser, which is absorbed by the blood destroying the vessel - restoring the skins natural appearance.

It is likely that a number of treatments will be required on larger veins to improve their appearance.

Smaller veins require single treatments. Treatments are usually provided in 15-30 minutes depending on the size of the area.

The number of treatments will be discussed with you at your initial consultation

Treatment of facial vessels Unwanted facial vessels, spider naevi and port wine stains can be successfully treated using laser or intense pulsed light (IPL)

IPL and laser treatments are a very effective way to treat facial vessels such as spider naevi, which usually disappear after one or two treatments.

Laser treatment is the only treatment available for a port wine stain as it lightens the affected area of skin, reducing the appearance of the port wine stain.

Laser treatment of port wine stains often works better in younger children because in adults a port wine stain may become bumpy and raised after a number of years.
