Our reviewer Jeremy Clark was in London last week to check out the hot spots of the big city. Read his reviews of his three favourite venues. Rock Rendezvous – 16, Covent Garden Lane, London W1. Rock Rendezvous is a small café in the centre of London. In fact it’s just ten minutes’ walk from Covent Garden. The music is great and very loud – so it’s difficult to have a conversation while you eat dinner. The food is surprisingly good – I recommend the traditional English sausages with mashed potatoes and gravy. And the puddings are delicious – try the sticky toffee pudding or the apple pie. It’s a good idea to book before you go there because there are only about fifteen tables! All That Jazz – 332, Lancaster Square, Putney, SW14 Would you like to hear some really cool jazz – live? Well, All That Jazz is the place for you! You can hear and see live musicians every evening from 9.00 p.m. and the music finishes at 12.00 p.m. And that’s not all! You can try some specialities cooked by the café’s American chef, Louis Grey. He comes from New Orleans – he can cook really well, but he can also play the sax! Try his Gumbo (a thick, spicy, seafood soup), his Cajun Spiced Chicken and especially his Bread Pudding! The best! And the food isn’t very expensive, either. You can expect to spend about £20 per person. Hammersmith Reggae Yard – 12, Kings Street, Hammersmith, W6. Spend a relaxing evening at the Hammersmith Reggae Yard – chill out to the latest sounds from Jamaica. No live music here, but an excellent selection of recordings from the most exciting new reggae bands on an excellent sound system. You can come here with your friends too, because there are more than fifty tables. (The Yard was the old post office – it’s huge!) You can drink traditional Jamaican ginger beer, carrot juice or fruit punch and you can try a Beef Patty or other Jamaican dishes like Curry Chicken or Rice and Peas. But get there early! When I was there last night it was full at eight o’clock! 32 Grammar, functions and vocabulary UNIT 12 UNITS 7-8
