What is PALS? PALS is a Positive Ageing Program aimed at promoting healthy, active ageing and social inclusion. The program provides older members of our community with information on social activities and health issues. Any older adult who lives, works, or visits Monash can participate. Most of the activities are FREE however some events may include a small cost. For more details, see inside this booklet.
How to book Please read through the booklet and choose the events and activities that you would like to participate in. For each listing, there is a telephone number or email address for bookings. Please use the details under each listing to book for that event. Please note: many of the events have a cap on the number of participants.
Community Events A number of events listed in this program are run by community groups and/or organisations other than Monash Council. Monash Council does not take responsibility for the management of these community events. We try to make sure that all event details are correct at the time of printing. However, details are subject to change without notice.
Community Transport Some Council events offer transport. Transport bookings must be made one week prior to the advertised event date. Transport is available to Monash residents at an additional fee and subject to availability.

Positive Ageing Activity Centre: PAAC
The Positive Ageing Activity Centres help older residents connect with people in their local community while enjoying good company, social activities, healthy and active ageing programs, social outings and culturally vibrant community lunches.
Older residents can build friendships with others in their community, engage in social interaction and participate in healthy and active ageing activities with the support of staff. Any older resident looking for an opportunity to get out of the house and connect with others is encouraged to visit a PAAC.
Monash Council operates centres in Clayton, Mulgrave and Oakleigh. Residents are encouraged to attend a centre close to their home. Days and locations vary.
There is a daily fee for each centre which includes morning tea and activities. Transport is available upon request at an additional minimal cost. *Subject to assessment and availability

REG GORMAN Australian television, film actor and comedian Reg Gorman is an Australian film actor, and comedian known for his role of Jack Fletcher in The Sullivans and as Harry Patterson in all 26 episodes of Fergus McPhail. One of the last surviving active vaudeville performers in Australia.
Reg is best known for his loveable character ‘Jack the barman’ from his seven years in the award-winning war drama The Sullivans, which is remembered as one of Australia’s most successful drama series. Reg has been working constantly since then, playing many diverse roles in film, television and theatre.
Reg doesn’t ever intend to retire or stop making people laugh, so come along and meet Reg here in Monash.

2017 MONASH SENIORS FESTIVALStay informed, stay connected and enjoy a range of activities and events right here in Monash. There are lots of fun activities and information sessions throughout the month of October, here in Monash and across Victoria. Most of the activities in Monash are FREE however some events may include a small cost.
The State Government will provide 8 days of free public transport for Victorian Senior Card holders, from Sunday 8 – Sunday 15 October.

Festival Big Band Dance
Melbourne Town Hall is a beautiful and famous venue for big-band dances, featuring great dance music from the 40s and 50s. This year’s Seniors Festival will host a free dance, working with a number of people who keep the tradition of big-band dances alive.

Learn about the flowers and animals of Valley Reserve with the ‘Friends of Scotchmans Creek and Valley Reserve’Valley Reserve is one of Monash’s hidden gems with beautiful native plants and animals, wetlands and Aboriginal history.
Join volunteers from the Friends of Scotchmans Creek and Valley Reserve as they give you a guided bushwalk around the reserve. Test your knowledge with a quiz – prizes for the best answers.

Halcyon Adult Day Care Centre The Halcyon Adult Day Care Centre is located in the Glen Waverley Golf Course site at 915 Waverley Road, Glen Waverley.
It provides a specialist day program for people living with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia/memory loss and disability.
A weekly session for younger adults with disabilties is held on Wednesday evenings.
The centre provides opportunities for people to socialise, engage in recreational activities and visit places of interest.
While people are enjoying themselves at the centre, their carers can enjoy some respite time knowing their loved ones are being cared for.
