Section 6.6 Scale Drawings
A scale drawing is an enlarged or reduced drawing of an object that
is similar to an actual object. Maps and floor plans are smaller
than the actual size. A scale drawing of a human cell is larger
than the actual size. A scale is the ratio that compares a length
in a drawing to the corresponding length in the actual object. If a
30-mile road is 1 in. long on a map, you can write the scale of the
map in these three ways: A particular map shows a scale of 1 cm : 5
km
A particular map shows a scale of 1 cm : 5 km. What would the map
distance (in cm) be if the actual distance is 14 km? Suppose a
problem tells you that the length of a vehicle is drawn to scale.
The scale of the drawing is 1:20If the length of the drawing of the
vehicle on paper is 12 inches, how long is the vehicle in real
life?Set up a proportion that will look like this: The scale
drawing of this tree is 1:500If the height of the tree on paper is
20 inches, what is the height of the tree in real life?Set up a
proportion like this: Scale Drawing of Bathroom Plan
If inch on the drawing is 1 foot in the actual room, how long is
the bathroom from the window to the doorway? Homework Textbook Page
