1.5.QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Manufacturer Qualifications: The access control system shall be from a single-source manufacturer that specializes in the manufacture of electric gate operators of the specified type.

B. Installer Qualifications: Installer specializing in access control systems with a minimum of three years experience on systems of similar size and scope and acceptable to the manufacturer.

C. System Requirements:

1. Design and installation shall comply with applicable codes.

2. Equipment shall be new, in current production, and a standard product of a manufacture of gate operator equipment.

3. Manufacturer shall guarantee availability of parts for a minimum of ten years from date of purchase.

4. Operators shall be built to and fully comply with Underwriter Laboratories Inc. Standard for Safety – Door, Drapery, Louver and Window Operators and Systems, UL325; and Underwriter Laboratories Inc. Standard for Safety – Testes for Safety-Related Controls Employing Solid-State Devices, UL 991.

5. Safety standards require that multiple external sensors shall be installed that are capable of reversing the gate in either direction according to UL325 and UL991 standards upon sensing an obstruction.

6. Current safety standards require that vehicular gate operators be designed and labeled for specific usage classes. Operators shall be rated for all Class Standards including Class I, Class II, Class III, and Class IV.

1.6.DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Store vehicular gate operator shall be stored upright in manufacturer's unopened packaging and protected from all weather conditions until ready for installation.

1.7.PROJECT CONDITIONS

A. Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's limits.

1.8.WARRANTY

A. Manufacturer’s Warranty: Vehicular Gate Operator shall include factory warranty that all equipment is free from defects in materials and workmanship.

2.4.SLIDE GATE OPERATION

A. System Performance:

1. Vehicular slide gate operators shall be tested for UL325 and UL991 compliance and be listed by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory.

2. Vehicular slide gate is not designed to be used for pedestrian access. Separate pedestrian gates shall be provided when pedestrian traffic is present.

3. Rated for Class Standards I, II, III, & IV.

4. Vehicular Slide Gate Operator System shall use a microprocessor based control board to control all functions of the Operator.

5. Gate Operator shall have audible alarm to alert in case of emergency situation.

B. Processor Control:

1. The Gate Operator shall use a model Eagle Diamond Control Board to control all functions of the operator.

C. Reversing Detection:

1. Gate operator shall be designed in such a way that if any obstruction is met during the opening or closing cycle the gate operator will automatically reverse the gate.

2. The gate operator control board shall check the entrapment sensing system at every cycle of operation.

3. The gate operator shall be designed that in a Master Slave dual operator system both gate operators will automatically reverse if either operator senses an obstruction.

4. The Enhanced Reversing Detection (ERD) system shall be designed into the gate operator control board so that in event of failure of external safety devices the gate operator will still be able to sense obstruction and reverse independently of external safety devices.

a. The gate operator control board shall have separate ERD adjustable potentiometers to enable fine tuning of ERD settings for both the open

and close portions of the cycle to maximize safety in all installations including uphill.

b. The Enhanced Reversing Detection shall monitor the motor current and reverse the gate upon an increase in current draw.

D. Entrapment Protection:

2. Upon sensing an entrapment (two sequential activations of ERD), gate operator shall stop and activate an internal alarm. Gate operator shall then require manual activation of the reset switch prior to returning to regular operation.

1. Eagle Fire Boxes are made of 14 gauge steel and are powder coated bright red. All boxes are clearly labeled Fire Dept. on both sides. .

3. Model: EG064 Fire Box for Knox Key Switch (EFB-2010).

I. Key Switch Lock Boxes:

1. Key Switch Lock Boxes are made of 14 gauge steel, powder coated black with a stainless steel faceplate. Each box has punch-outs for surface or post mounting and comes with 2 keys for each lock.

2. Model: EG076 Key Box with Schlage Brand Mortise Cylinder (EFB-2020). Mortise lock can be keyed to the house key and gives momentary contact to open and close the gate.

3. Model: EG080 Key Box for Momentary Contact (EFB-2030). Gives momentary contact to open and close gate, key can removed only in the closed, or off position.

4. Model: EG084 Key Box for Constant Contact (EFB-2040). Gives momentary contact to open, hold open and close gate, the key is removable in either closed/open or on/off position.

2.9.BATTERY BACK-UP SYSTEM

A. The Battery Back-Up System shall enable an Eagle Operator to remain fully functional during power failure to maintain UL325 and UL991 Compliance throughout a power outage.

1. System shall use a microprocessor based control board to control all functions of the system.

2. System shall provide 115 V AC power to gate operator.

3. System shall have at least 70 Amp Hours of battery power, through use of two 12 V DC sealed lead acid batteries.

4. System shall include 12 V DC, 3 Amp trickle charger to maintain battery.

5. System shall not impede or interfere with gate operator systems ERD safety function or any other safety function related with gate operator system.

B. Control Board:

1. System shall use a model Eagle Power Relay Control Board; rev A or later, to control all functions of the system.

2. Control Board shall have connections for all necessary components of battery back-up system including AC power in, AC power out, charger, and power inverter.

3. Control Board shall have selectable feature to determine battery back-up and gate operator system actions in event of battery power loss.

B. Uphill Swing Arm:

1. For swinging gate that rises to account for elevation on ground. Up-hill swing arm must fit to Eagle swing gate operator without modification to the quick-release handle. Uphill swing arm to incorporate ball-type connections at each joint in swing arm.

G. Gooseneck Posts/Pedestal:

1. Gooseneck posts have a 90 degree sweep to allow easy access and are powder coated black. The accessory plate is 4 inches by 4 inches (102mm by 102 mm) with 4 slotted 1/4 inch (6 mm) holes for accessory mounting as well as a 2 inches (51 mm) opening for wiring.

2. Model: EG092 Gooseneck Post/Pedestal for Pad Mount installation; 42 inches (1067 mm).

3. Model: EG093 Gooseneck Post/Pedestal for In-ground installation; 72 inches (1829 mm).

3.EXECUTION

3.1.EXAMINATION

A. Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.

B. If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

3.2.PREPARATION

A. Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions. If preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect in writing of deviations from manufacturer's recommended installation tolerances and conditions.

B. Do not proceed with installation until substrates have been properly prepared and deviations from manufacturer's recommended tolerances are corrected. Commencement of installation constitutes acceptance of conditions.

C. Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.

D. Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.

3.3.GATE INSTALLATION

A. Vehicular gate operator shall be installed by a qualified technician with the appropriate experience with similar systems.

B. Wiring shall be in accordance with all applicable codes and manufacturer’s instructions.

C. Operator shall be designed to be pad mounted to a concrete pad, firmly secured, and level on all sides.

D. The gate operator is designed to be installed in either a regular front position or a rear mount type installation. Rear mount style installation requires uses of additional Idler Wheel.

E. Wiring shall be in accordance with national electric codes and manufacturer's instructions. Make conduit and wiring connections to existing gate and door hardware devices as required.

F. Install wiring for detection and signal circuit conductors in conduit. Use 22 AWG minimum size conductors.

3.4.BATTERY BACK-UP INSTALLATION

A. System shall be installed by a qualified technician with the appropriate experience with similar systems.

B. System is designed to be wall mounted, firmly secured, and level on all sides.

C. System wiring shall be in accordance with all applicable codes and manufacturer’s instructions.

3.5.SYSTEM INITIALIZATION AND CUSTOMIZATION

A. System shall be turned on and all required adjustments and customizations shall be made to properly activate and fine tune all safety features and options.

B. ERD shall be set to ensure proper levels of settings in case of gate striking object.

C. System shall function as specified by manufacturer and applicable codes.

3.6.TESTING PROCEDURES

A. System shall be tested completely by contractor including all components, accessories, and safety devices.

B. System shall be demonstrated, including safety devices, in presence of owner or owner’s representative.

3.7.OWNER INSTRUCTIONS AND MANUALS

A. Contractor shall instruct Owner’s representative in use of the system within 30 days of acceptance.

B. Contractor shall instruct Owner’s representative in troubleshooting and service of system within 30 days of acceptance. .

C. Contractor shall provide Owner with copy of owner’s manual. Manual shall include wiring diagrams and drawings of installation.

3.8.PROTECTION

A. Protect installed products until completion of project.

B. Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
