SECTION 13122 PRE-ENGINEERED BUILDINGS PART 1 - GENERAL 1.01 SCOPE OF WORK A. These specifications cover the material for and the fabrication of steel building so designed and constructed as to an open canopy type structure to cover the dewatered sludge storage area. B. The building shall clear span the sludge storage area with no internal columns. The structural frame shall run in the north-south directional as illustrated on the drawings. The building ridge shall run in the east-west direction. The internal dimensions of the building are to be nominally 90 feet wide and 120 feet long. The building shall have a minimum internal clear height of 20 feet. C. The materials furnished shall include the structural framing, roofing, siding, skylight panels, wall light panels, anchor bolts, guttering and down spouts, hardware, fasteners, sealant and any other component parts for the metal building, as specified herein or shown on the detail plans, including the erection of same. All materials shall be new, unused and free from defects and imperfections and fabricated in a workmanlike manner. D. Where a conflict exists with other specification sections, this section shall take precedence. E. The building shall be the design of a manufacturer who is regularly engaged in the fabrication of pre- engineered structures conforming as specified hereafter to the Metal Building Manufacturers Association's standards. PRE-ENGINEERED BUILDINGS

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 SCOPE OF WORK

A. These specifications cover the material for and the fabrication of steel building so designed and constructed as to an open canopy type structure to cover the dewatered sludge storage area.

B. The building shall clear span the sludge storage area with no internal columns. The structural frame shall run in the north-south directional as illustrated on the drawings. The building ridge shall run in the east-west direction. The internal dimensions of the building are to be nominally 90 feet wide and 120 feet long. The building shall have a minimum internal clear height of 20 feet.

C. 1.03 SHOP DRAWINGS

A. Submit shop drawings of the building in accordance with Section 01000.

B. The Contractor shall furnish complete fabrication and erection drawings showing sidewall, end wall, and roof framing, transverse cross-sections, covering and flashing details, and accessory installation details which clearly indicate the proper assembly of all building parts. The supplier shall furnish a certificate signed by a Licensed Structural Engineer in Illinois that the building design and its components meet the requirements of these specifications and are in accordance with accepted engineering practice.

1.04 DESIGN LOADS

A. Construction shall comply with the International Building Code, 2012.

B. Live load for design shall be at least 30 PSF for roofs.

C. Basic wind speed for design shall be at least 90 MPH.

D. Exposure Category: Exposure C.

E. Building Classification Category IV.

F. Snow Loads: Design in accordance International Building Code 2012.

K. Primary and secondary members shall be designed to withstand imposed loads with a maximum individual member deflection of L/180 for roof and the horizontal direction for wall members. Wind speed for deflection determination shall be based upon a 10 year reoccurrence map.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.01 MATERIALS

A. Primary Framing: Steel used to fabricate built-up framing members or truss members shall be 50,000 PSI or 36,000 PSI minimum yield material and shall conform to the physical characteristics of one of the following:

ASTM A570 Grade 50

ASTM A572 Grade 50

ASTM A36 Modified to 50,000 PSI

ASTM A36

Steel used for ASTM A36 cold-formed members shall be 55,000 PSI or 36,000 PSI minimum yield material and shall conform to the physical characteristics of ASTM A570 or A607. The building manufacturer shall have on file certified mill test reports, which verify that these requirements have been met.

B. Purl ins and Girts: Steel used to form purl ins and girts shall be hot rolled steel strip with a minimum yield of 55,000 PSI and shall conform to the physical characteristics of ASTM A570.

Roof and Wall Panels: The substrate shall be 50,000 PSI minimum yield steel conforming to the following standards based upon the material coating.

E. Painted Metallic Roof (HRBL) and Wall (AM) Panels Galvalume - ASTM A446.

1. Galvalume Coating: The panels produced from steel manufactured to ASTM A 7 92 shall have an aluminum-zinc alloy coating having a minimum thickness of 0.05 oz. per sq. ft. when tested by the triple spot test and 0.043 oz. per sq. ft. when tested by the single spot method.

F. Bracing: Cable used for diagonal bracing shall be extra high strength and conform to ASTM A4 7 5 Class A.

2.02 FABRICATION OF PRIMARY FRAMING

A. Framing: Rigid frames shall be fabricated of plate and bar stock as per Section 2.01 A. of this specification and shall have the flanges and webs mated by a continuous automatic submerged arc welding process.

B. Structural Accessories: beams, lean-to frames, frames, as required by of plate and bar stock A.

C. End Framing: Post and beam end frames shall be cold-formed sections of 55,000 PSI minimum yield steel or built up welded sections as described in 2.01 A.

D. Plates: Base plates, splice plates and stiffener plates shall be welded on the structural members in the building manufacturer's plant.

E . Connections: Base plates, splice plates and flanges shall be fabricated to include holes for bolted connections. Webs shall be fabricated to include cable brace holes and flange brace clips.

F . Welding: Welders performing shop welding shall have passed the applicable qualification tests as prescribed by the American Welding Soc i ety, in the current Structural Welding Code D1.1 and/or D1.3 for process, position and joint type employed.

2.03 FABRICATION OF SECONDARY FRAMING

2. 04 ROOF AND WALL PANELS

A. Roof Panels: The roof panels shall be formed on a continuous rolling mill in the manufacturer 1 s facility to ensure close dimensional tolerances.

1. The roof panel system shall be a 24 gage, 50,000 psi, unpainted galvalume system with concealed fasteners and minimum 2 inch standing seams with a minimum panel width of 24 inches, factory applied sealant. Coating shall be Royal K-70 with Kynar 500 or equal.

2. The roof system shall be listed by Underwriters Laboratories for wind uplift classification UL90 (Construction No. 90, 133, 176, 180, 238 and 238A).

B. Wall Panels: The wall panels shall be formed on a continuous rolling mill in the manufacturer 1 s facility to ensure close dimensional tolerances.

1. The Metallic or equal AM shape panel shall be 36" wide and be of minimum 26 gage steel.

2. The panel shall extend from the base to eave or rake line.

3. The wall panels shall be attached to framing with fasteners as for the roof panels above.

C. Roof and wall panels shall have tape sealed joints.

2.05 MISCELLANEOUS MATERIAL

A. Structural Bolts: All structural bolts shall be black, unpainted, and shall conform to the requirements for high strength bolts of ASTM A325.

B. Covering Fasteners: All exposed fasteners for covering shall be self-drilling sheet metal screws of carbon steel shank with zinc-alloy head.

C. Sealants: (Also see Specification 07 900) for building panels this Section 13122 takes precedence.

1. For field applied for spot sealing panel laps, spot sealing trapezoidal corrugated nestable panels, ridge cover, and roof accessories where the sealant is not exposed. The sealant shall be a non-migratory, non-drying and non-skinning synthetic elastomer base conforming to the performance requirements NAAMM Standard SS-1a and Federal Specification TT-S-00230.

2 . For factory applied sealant, or field applied for spot sealing panel laps, ridge cover, and roof accessories where the sealant is not exposed. The extrudable sealant shall be a non-migratory, non-drying and non-skinning synthetic elastomer base conforming to the performance requirements NAAMM Standard SS-1a and Federal Specification TT-S-00230.

3. For field-applied sealant for exposed seams, butts, and laps at roof curbs, around doors and windows, and at the ridge when the sealant is exposed. The extrudable sealant shall be a nondrying (but skinning) and non-migratory synthetic acrylic terpolymer material conforming to the performance requirements of Federal Specification TT-S-00230.

4. For field applied tape sealant for panel end laps, between roof and panels and wall flashing, side laps of nestable roof panels, and roof curbs. The tape sealant shall be extruded butyl material conforming to Federal Specification TT-C 1796A Type II Class B and AAMA Specification 804.1.

5. For field applied sealant for base of wall at base zee or channel. The extrudable sealant shall be an asphalt base bituminous plastic cement conforming to the performance requirements of Federal Specification ss-e-00153A Type 1.

D. Gutter, Trim and Downspouts:

1. All gutter and trim shall be fabricated from not less than 26 gage steel galvalume, paint coated.

2. Downspouts shall be fabricated from not less than 0. 019" thick prepainted aluminum or prepainted steel.

2.06 STRUCTURAL PAINTING

A. Building frames, purlins and grits shall be hot dipped galvanized. All other uncoated structural steel and light gage steel components shall be painted with a primer coat.

B. Anchor bolts and structural bolts do not require primer paint.

2.07 PAINTED STEEL PANELS

2.08 ANCHOR BOLTS

A. The number, size, layout and projection of the building anchor bolts shall be determined and provided by the pre-engineered building manufacturer.

B. Anchor bolt embedment details, including depth and anchor reinforcement shall be designed by the pre­engineered building manufacturer. Submittals for the anchor bolt design shall include design calculations signed and sealed by a registered structural engineer in the State of Illinois.

2.09 ACCESSORIES

A. Ridge Vent: A continuous low profile ridge vent shall be provided. The ridge vent shall be designed for Exposure C conditions.

B. Wall Louvers: Fixed weather louvers (48" x 48") shall by provided as indicated on the drawings. Weather louvers shall be stationary type, constructed of extruded aluminum sections securely and permanently assembled to form a sturdy unit. Louvers shall be finished to match the building wall

Panels shall have no loss of surface gloss or evidence of exposed fibers after 1000 hours of ASTM G-23 (Type D) accelerated simulated weathering. Flammability rates shall be no greater than 1.5 inch/minute when tested in accordance with ASTM D635. Skylight panels shall be flat and be installed in a curb or a composite of perforated steel and fiberglass. The later shall be installed 2 panels wide to meet the nominal 36" width requirement.

d. Corrosion due to acid rain has resulted in red rust.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 ERECTION

A. Erection of the pre-engineered metal building and accessories shall be performed by qualified workmen in strict conformance with manufacturer's standards and erection procedures.

B. Dissimilar materials which are not compatible when contacting each other shall be insulated from each other by means of gaskets or insulating compounds.

C. Anchor bolts shall be accurately set with the use of templates. As erection progresses, the work shall be securely fastened to resist the dead and wind and erection stresses.
