1.3 DEFINITIONS

A. AC Line-Voltage Motors: A tubular, asynchronous motor, 120-V ac (60 Hz) single-phase motor, with an integral capacitor and a thermally protected, permanently lubricated, and maintenance-free gearbox with a torque range lifting capacity from a minimum of 35.4 in-lbf (4 Nm) to a maximum of 885 in-lbf (100 Nm). Motor to fit into a tube with a minimum inside diameter of 1.5 inches (38 mm). Minimum audible noise is between 38 and 60 dBA according to the standards of ISO 3741 NF 31022 in dBA ref. 1pW at nominal torque without end product. Controller to be embedded microprocessor type or bus connection using RJ9/RJ45 (Radio and Digital motors). Standard, mechanical limit-switching motors are available through hardwired or plug-in connections. Manual override is available for ac motors.

B. Autosun™: Solar/battery-powered motor-operator with plug-in option for awnings and pergolas.

C. Awning - Cassette: Fully-protected roller-fabric tube and folding-arm structure. The hermetically sealable awning enclosure protects the fabric and arms from outdoor conditions, UV rays, and humidity.

D. Awning - Folding-Arm: Exposed roller-fabric tube and folding-awning arm structure. Awning can be placed on the façade or under a roof overhang for protection.

E. Awning - Lateral Arm: Single-slope, double-slope, or (Dutch) canopy types. Single-slope awnings have a fixed, angle-rod support to the fabric-end valence. Double-slope awnings combine vertical and projection type awnings, and may be motorized. (Dutch) -canopy awnings form a quarter cylinder of fabric in a segmented frame.

F. Awning - Pergola: Fixed and rigid (wood, aluminum, or wrought iron pillar, beam, and sleeper) structure with classic retractable fabric or tilting blade types.

G. Awning - Semi-cassette: Fully-protected roller-fabric tube with exposed folding arm structure. The awning enclosure protects the fabric from outdoor conditions, UV rays, and humidity.

H. Awning - Winter Garden: Fixed and rigid (wood, aluminum, or wrought iron pillar, beam, and sleeper) glass structure with retractable fabric.

I. CMO: Compact manual-override motor-head style that, in the event of power loss, allows manual turning of motor head by using a crank handle.

J. DCT: Dry Contact Technology; dry contact (mercury-free) input for basic low-voltage switches via data (communication) cable switching.

K. Digital Network (DN): RS485 wired, bi-directional, bus control technology; integrated network automation system protocol allowing communication between devices and building management systems, stand-alone automation systems, or stand-alone motor-control systems.

L. IP Rating: International (or Ingress) Protection Rating is defined by IEC 60529 and classifies the degrees of protection provided against the intrusion of solid objects (including body parts like hands and fingers), dust, accidental contact, and water in electrical enclosures. The first digit classifies protection against solids (0 to 6) and the second digit (0 to 8) against liquids. The higher the number, the more protected.

M. PA: Progressive Limit Adjustment motor-head style. Ability to set various shade heights.

N. Pergola, Louvered: Aluminum louvers are spaced horizontally as a roof canopy or pergola, and can be tilted to have an exact amount of sun protection or ventilation. It stands up to the wind, protects from rain, and keeps users cool and comfortable against sunshine.

O. Pergola, Retractable Awning: Fabric canopy that can be rolled and unrolled to protect against the heat of the sun and from rain. It stands up to the wind, protects from rain, and keeps users cool and comfortable against sunshine.

P. RA: Rapid Adjustment motor-head style. Ability to move between set heights quickly.

Q. RT: Radio Technology; wireless radio control of motorized applications.

R. Radio Technology Tubular Motor: Motor equipped with built-in radio receiver and concealed inside roller tube with 3-wire drive unit inside roller, instantly reversible, and lifetime lubricated.

S. Tubular Motor: Motor equipped with disconnect plug concealed in aluminum tube; and connected to drive shaft through a reduction box.

T. Valence: Solar and thermal type fabric that rolls into a coil and unrolls flat.

U. WireFree™: A battery-powered motor-operator control with plug-in option for awnings and pergolas.

V. WT: Wired Technology; control through standard AC (alternating current) or DC (direct current) via power or polarity switching.

W. Z-Wave®: An interoperable, two-way RF mesh networking technology used for both residential and light commercial automation applications. 908.42 MHz in United States and Canada. Varies in other countries.

X. ZigBee®: The ZigBee® protocol is a low-powered RF mesh networking technology that uses a 2.4 GHz standard for both residential and commercial applications.

1.8 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Manufacturer Qualifications: Motor operators, controls, and controllers certified by an NRTL to provide UL recognized or listed wired AC and DC powered motors.

1. ISO 9001 certified including in-house engineering and product design activities.2. Controls manufacturer capable of supplying commissioning services for control systems.3. Motor manufacturer capable of supplying a full range of wirefree (12-V dc - battery and

solar powered) direct voltage DC (24-V dc), main or line-voltage (120-V ac) motor and control products.

B. Fabricator Qualifications: Shop that employs skilled workers who custom fabricate products similar to those required for this Project and whose products have a record of successful in-service performance.

C. Installer Qualifications: Trained[ and certified] by manufacturer of motor operator and control system products.

D. Welding Qualifications: Qualify procedures and personnel according to the following:

1.9 WARRANTY

A. Special Warranty: Manufacturer and fabricator agree to repair or replace components of awnings that fail in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period.

1. Failures include, but are not limited to, the following:

a. Structural failures including framework.b. Deterioration of fabric including seam failure.c. Deterioration of metals, metal finishes, and other materials beyond normal

weathering.d. Faulty operation of operator.

2.5 FIXED AWNING FABRICATION

5. Weld corners and connections continuously. Obtain fusion without undercut or overlap. Remove welding flux immediately. At exposed corners and connections, finish exposed welds and surfaces smooth and blended so no roughness shows after finishing and contour of welded surface matches that of adjacent surface.

6. Provide for anchorage of type indicated; coordinate with supporting structure. Space anchoring devices to secure awnings in place and to properly transfer loads.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Examine substrates, areas, and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for supporting members, blocking, inserts, installation tolerances, [operational clearances, accurate locations of connections to building electrical system,] [lighting,] and other conditions affecting performance of the Work.

B. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.2 INSTALLATION

A. General: Install [awnings] [pergolas][ and motor controls] at locations and in position indicated, securely connected to supports, free of rack, and in proper relation to adjacent construction. Use mounting methods of types described and in compliance with Shop Drawings and fabricator's written instructions.

1. Mount controls, sensors, and other standalone equipment in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions.

B. Installation of Motors, Controllers, and Accessories:

1. Comply with NECA 1 and NECA 130.2. Comply with FCC guidelines.3. Electrical Connections: Connect wired motor operators and stationary control systems to

building electrical system in accordance with NEC requirements.

a. Grounding: Provide electrical grounding in accordance with NFPA 70.

4. Networked Building Management System: Connect networked automation controls for motorized equipment to building management system.

5. Sun, Rain, and Wind Sensor Locations: Mount on exterior in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions.

6. Install awnings after other finishing operations, including joint sealing and painting, have been completed.

C. Slip fit frame connections accurately together to form hairline joints, and tighten to secure.

D. Weld frame connections that are not to be left as exposed joints but cannot be shop welded because of shipping size limitations.

1. Field Welding: Comply with the following requirements:

a. Use materials and methods that minimize distortion and develop strength and corrosion resistance of base metals.

b. Obtain fusion without undercut or overlap.c. Remove welding flux immediately.d. At exposed connections, finish exposed welds and surfaces smooth and blended so

no roughness shows after finishing and contour of welded surface matches that of adjacent surface.

E. Anchoring to In-Place Construction: Use anchors, fasteners, fittings, hardware, and installation accessories where necessary for securing awnings to structural support and for properly transferring load to in-place construction.

F. Corrosion Protection: Coat concealed surfaces of aluminum that come in contact with grout, concrete, masonry, wood, or dissimilar metals with a heavy coat of bituminous paint.

G. Coordinate awning installation with flashing and joint-sealant installation so these materials are installed in sequence and in a manner that prevents exterior moisture from passing through completed exterior wall and roof assemblies.

3.3 ADJUSTING

A. Adjust hardware and moving parts to function smoothly, and lubricate as recommended by retractable-awning manufacturer.

B. Adjust motor-limit settings in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions for specific locations and placements.

3.4 CLEANING AND PROTECTION

A. Touch up factory-applied finishes to restore damaged or soiled areas.

B. Galvanized Surfaces: Clean field welds, connections, and abraded areas and repair galvanizing to comply with ASTM A 780.

3.5 DEMONSTRATION

A. Engage a factory-authorized service representative to train Owner's maintenance personnel to adjust, operate, and maintain retractable awnings.
