Leading image expert Carol Goodsman stepped in to make her make over easy Wendy Wasels has a very busy life and by her own admission, not much time for looking after the way she looks. She has been married to Heinrich for 17 years and they have a six year old son named Thomas. Her job as Fund Raising Manager for the RSPCA means that she often has to travel to different parts of the country. With such a full life, a well organized wardrobe is essential, but whilst Wendy was fairly happy with her working wardrobe, she felt frumpy and dull when dressed casually. Wendy is an attractive, bubbly and outgoing person with a sense of glamour and drama. Her safe, casual wardrobe was far too dull to reflect her personality. Her busy lifestyle meant that when not at work she tended to throw on the first thing available and she told me she felt she was hiding under her casual clothes. To bring some life and excitement into Wendy’s casual wardrobe, we began by assessing her best colours. We did this by finding the tones most suited to her natural skin, hair and eye colour. Wendy suit cool muted tones and silver, rather than gold jewellery. Armed with this information, we looked at Wendy’s makeup. She had been wearing quite strong makeup in bold colours for work, but none at all when dressed casually. I showed her how to use softer tones, more flattering to her colouring: pink toned foundation and rose coloured blush and lip colour. Brown is preferable to black mascara, which is too strong for Wendy’s colouring, and with her ash blonde hair, she could even use navy blue for a softer look. The whole look is easy for a busy working mum to achieve in five minutes. Wendy has been wearing her hair either tied back or clipped back at the sides, centre parted with a solid fringe. I discovered that she looked much softer and prettier if her hair was worn loose and side parted, with a softer, feathered fringe.

    Secrets  From  the  Style  Council

Working  Mum  Wendy  Wasels  was  fed  up  with  the  way  she  looked  and  was  desperate  for  that  special  new  style  for  Spring  and  Summer.  Leading  image  expert  Carol  Goodsman  stepped  in  to  make  her  make-‐over  easy

Wendy  Wasels  has  a  very  busy  life  and  by  her  own  admission,  not  much  time  for

looking  after  the  way  she  looks.  She  has  been  married  to  Heinrich  for  17  years  and

they  have  a  six  year  old  son  named  Thomas.  Her  job  as    Fund  Raising  Manager  for

the  RSPCA  means  that  she  often  has  to  travel  to  different  parts  of  the  country.

With  such  a  full  life,  a  well  organized  wardrobe  is  essential,  but  whilst  Wendy  was

fairly  happy  with  her  working  wardrobe,  she  felt  frumpy  and  dull  when  dressed

    casually.

Wendy  is  an  attractive,  bubbly  and  outgoing  person  with  a  sense  of  glamour  and

drama.  Her  safe,  casual  wardrobe  was  far  too  dull  to  reflect  her  personality.  Her  busy

lifestyle  meant  that  when  not  at  work  she  tended  to  throw  on  the  first  thing

available  and  she  told  me  she  felt  she  was  hiding  under  her  casual  clothes.

To  bring  some  life  and  excitement  into  Wendy’s  casual  wardrobe,  we  began  by

assessing  her  best  colours.  We  did  this  by  finding  the  tones  most  suited  to  her

natural  skin,  hair  and  eye  colour.  Wendy  suit  cool  muted  tones  and  silver,  rather

    than  gold  jewellery.

Armed  with  this  information,  we  looked  at  Wendy’s  make-‐up.  She  had  been  wearing

quite  strong  make-‐up  in  bold  colours  for  work,  but  none  at  all  when  dressed

casually.  I  showed  her  how  to  use  softer  tones,  more  flattering  to  her  colouring:  pink

toned  foundation  and  rose  coloured  blush  and  lip  colour.  Brown  is  preferable  to

black  mascara,  which  is  too  strong  for  Wendy’s  colouring,  and  with  her  ash  blonde

hair,  she  could  even  use  navy  blue  for  a  softer  look.  The  whole  look  is  easy  for  a  busy

working  mum  to  achieve  in  five  minutes.

Wendy  has  been  wearing  her  hair  either  tied  back  or  clipped  back  at the  sides,

centre  parted  with  a  solid  fringe.  I  discovered  that    she  looked  much  softer  and

prettier  if  her  hair  was  worn  loose  and  side  parted,  with  a  softer,  feathered  fringe.

Next  we  looked  at  Wendy’s  figure  type,  which  was  straighter,  rather  than  curved.

This  should  be  reflected  in  the  cut  of  her  clothing  and  in  her  choice  of  accessories.  If

she  were  to  put  on  weight,  she  would  tend  towards  a  pear  shape  and  she  needs  to

balance  the  top  and  bottom  halves  of  her  body,  for  example  by  using  detail  and

    texture  on  her  top  half.

I  soon  realized  that  Wendy  looks  best  in  styles  that  combine  a  natural,  dressed  down

look  with  a  strong  element  of  drama.  Her  clothes,  whilst  never  too  formal,  should

always  make  a  statement.  Bold  jewellery  and  accessories  will  suit  her,  as  will  natural

    and  textured  fabrics.

The  final  step  was  a  personal  shopping  trip.  I  decided  that  jeans  were  perfect  for

Wendy’s  casual  look  and  selected  a  darker,  boot  cut  pair  to  balance  her  figure.  A

selection  of  casual  tops  in  flattering  colours,  patterns  and  textures,  all  with  an

element  of  drama,  gave  Wendy  a  casual  wardrobe  that  highlights,  rather  than  hides

her  personality.  Wendy  was  delighted  with  her  new  look  and  said  that  she  couldn’t

believe  how  easy  it  was  to  look  glamorous  and  feel  great  in  such  a  short  amount  of

time  and  with  such  little  effort.
