This term, year 8 students will be taking part in a project around the conflicts in World War 1 and cre-ating and hosting an exhibition on Thursday 3rd April. The project is a collaboration between art and hu-manities and allows for history to be brought alive in a visual and entertaining way.

One of the key princi-ples behind project-based learning (PBL) is to create authentic ex-periences for students that involve real-life outcomes and audienc-es. We will therefore be inviting parents, friends and visitors from outside of school to come and experi-ence the exhibition and be given a tour by our students.

Students will be expected to learn about the causes and consequences of WW1, reflect on some of the personal experiences of those involved, and explore artistic ways of expressing their understanding through art installations. Students investigate World War One on 100th anniversary

Amazing talent on display

Congratulations to Tasnim Mozumder in Year 7 for her impressive charcoal study of the Tollund Man, which is nearly 5 foot wide and drawn using charcoal and chalk on brown paper. It is on display in the main hall near the computers.

The Junior Leadership Team (JLT) got into action this week as they visited their coaching groups who they are buddied with and we also saw Nishat and Eliyas hold the first School Council meeting. The meeting was complete-ly chaired and managed by the students and all the coun-cil members spoke eloquently as they brought lots of ideas to the table.

JLT springs into action

Enrichment clubs play an important part of life at School 21, we strongly recommend and encourage students make use of the many clubs on offer as these allow students to further develop their skill and specialism, encourage social mixing and experience new and exciting activities. Clubs are open to all students and if they require any more information about the activities on offer they should speak to the relevant member of staff or their coach.

Additionally Leadership Coaches will meet with their Year 8 Leadership circles on a fortnightly basis, while the Student Council and JLT will meet regularly

New school day finish times Action required by all parents on Free School Meals To ensure that our school is able to access addition-al funding of up to 30 per cent of our existing school budget from central government for the next six years, it is vital that everyone completes an online registration form (irrespective of whether you are eligible or not) . You only need to do this once and it will last for the duration of your child’s time at our school. This needs to be done immedi-ately.
