    Weekday Masses

Monday through Thursday—CHAPEL Friday, Saturday and Sunday Masses—CHURCH

“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

Here He is. Hanging on the cross. The moment has come when Jesus must face death Himself. The question comes to my mind—how can God forsake God? When Jesus decided to die on the cross, He knew what it would be like. He knew that He must suffer. He was fulfilling the will of His Father. We have to remember that He gave His life for me. Even though Jesus had no sin, He must experience how it is to die with sin. He must experience the same feelings as me, like every sinner. The burden of all the sins of humanity — all people who lived before Jesus, who lived in His time and who will live to the end of the world — for a moment over-whelmed the humanity of Jesus. He felt separated from God — separated forever. Jesus has this feel-ing that He will never be able to see God, to feel love and to be loved. We are wondering if it was necessary, if Jesus had to suffer so much. Maybe God can spare some of this suffering. The mystery of salvation cannot be faked. Jesus had to really suffer to give us real salvation. Jesus teaches us something very important. There are moments in our lives when we feel like it is too much. We have had enough … we don’t have strength. Illness, problems with children, husbands who are becoming harder to deal with, wives who are unhappy, loss of work, parents who are dy-ing ...we have a right to cry: “God, why have you forsaken me?” We have the right to complain to God. He will listen. Complaining to man about God is wrong. Jesus on the cross cries out the words which are the psalm of prayers (Psalm 22). The cross is horrible — it is full of pain and tears. This is the time when you feel lonely. But, we have to re-member that, after three days, we will experience the resurrection. Fr. Andrzej
