Stewardship Thought: “The community of believers was of one heart and mind, and no one claimed that any of his possessions was his own...” - Acts 4:32 All that we are and all that we have is a gift from God! Think of your family, your friends, your talents, your abilities and your money – these are all gifts from God! FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Dear Parishioner (s)

As we have entered a wonderful and blessed season of Easter, I would like to take this opportunity to thank every one who have made our Easter Triduum a graceful celebration of our Salvation history. My thanks go to all the ushers, lectors, distributors of Holy Communion, choir members, altar servers and everyone else who took a special part during our liturgies. Both of our worship sites are beautifully decorated and I would like to thank everyone who shared their time and talents to make our churches dignified places to worship and pray. Through the generosity of Altar and Rosary Societies of our worship sites we were able to purchase new altar cloths for our churches. Special thanks go to the family of Virginia Ginnetti Carbone, who donated a statue of the Risen Lord in loving memory of their mother, who loved our parish and was a woman of faith. Lastly, I would like to thank you for coming to our liturgies and praying with us and growing together in faith. May the Risen Lord bless you and protect you as we continue our journey of faith.

Have a blessed week Fr. Martin

SAINT OF THE WEEK: SAINT JULIE BILLIART The fifth of seven children, Julie Billiart was born in 1751 and attended a one-room school in Cuvilly, France. She was so interested in learning about her religion that the parish priest, her teacher, allowed her to receive her First Eucharist at the age of nine; in those days, thirteen was the usual age. Julie enjoyed playing at being a teacher and when she was sixteen she began teaching biblical stories to workers during their lunch break. When thieves attacked her father at his small shop, Julie fell ill and was to suffer various ailments, including paralysis, for the next thirty years. She endured her sufferings and offered them up to God. During the French Revolution, many priests were persecuted. Julie’s home became a refuge for priests, and Julie, as a result, became a target of the government. At times she had to escape in the middle of the night from the homes of friends who were trying to keep her safe. When Julie had a vision of the crucified Christ with a group of women dressed as nuns, she concluded that she should begin a new community. Julie and a wealthy friend, Françoise Blin de Bourdon, eventually founded the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, a teaching order. The two women opened free schools for poor girls and also established schools for middle-class and rich girls; the tuition charged at these schools paid for the free education of the poor. In 1804, Julie experienced a miraculous cure and regained her ability to walk after twenty-two years of paralysis. In 1815, war again intruded, and Julie took care of many who had been wounded in the Battle of Waterloo. She died on April 8, 1816, was beatified in 1906, and canonized by Pope Paul VI in 1969. We celebrate the feast of Saint Julie Billiart on April 8. Her legacy continues: the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur work in sixteen countries around the world.
