Our Mission: ‘Making Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World’
Our Vision: ‘Knowing Christ & Making Christ Known’
Giving Opportunities
Through their generosity United Methodist Women members help empower and improve the lives of women, youth, and children in the United States and around the world. Our unit of UMW supports this global and local mission work through the North Georgia Conference UMW, but also through contributions to Good Neighbor Ministries and Murphy-Harpst Children’s Centers, supporting mission work very close to home. Our UMW invites you to contribute to their mission fund in honor or memory of fathers and other special men in your life. Please submit your donations along with the name(s) of those you honor or remember with your gift. Their names will be printed in a special insert in the Father’s Day worship bulletin. Please make your check payable to Second Avenue UMC, and designate it for “UMW.”
Each year, our bishop selects a recipient of a special offering to be received during annual conference. This year Bishop Sue Haupert-Johnson has named the Pastoral Care Program of Wesley Woods as the recipient of the 2019 North Georgia Annual Conference Special Offering. Your giving to the conference-wide offering will make it possible for more than 1800 older adults across the Wesley Woods communities to continue their faith journey with the support of a team of loving, compassionate chaplains. Our United Methodist connection is at its best as churches across North Georgia come together to help fund valuable ministry. We exemplify this year’s conference theme “One With Each Other” when we give to this special offering. Your generous giving ensures that a senior in one of the Wesley Woods communities who may be separated from his or her church home will have the attentive ear and encouragement of a supportive pastor in the community. Please make your check payable to Second Avenue UMC, and designate it “Annual Conference Special Offering.”

As part of the Academy of Clergy Excellence, I am on a pilgrimage
from the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Ottawa to the Cathedral of
Notre Dame in Montreal. This pilgrimage is designed after
El Camino in Spain but much shorter, just 12 days. There are seven
of us—Pam, Nancy, Cyndi, Terry, Anika, Karen, Gilles, and me. I
want to note here that Gilles is 72, the oldest in our group, and I am
the youngest!
I am the first one to leave GA since I organized the trip and wanted
to get there early to make sure everything is set to go. I got every-
body a decent flight except mine. What's up with that? I left my
house at 3 in the morning to catch a 6 o'clock flight. I have a 2-hour
layover in New York and will be in Montreal by 1:00 pm. There, I will take a bus to Ottawa.
My husband stayed up all night to help me prepare! As I was walking out the door this morning, he
handed me a bag. In it, I found coffee (just the way I like it), boiled eggs and plastic eggs filled with
candy, just like my Mama had packed every time I left our house. Some of you don't know my Mama's
egg story but it meant, "Go, not just survive but thrive; go conquer the world." She always believed that
I would change the world. What a Mama I had! So here I go! I will not be satisfied by just making it
through; I will thrive and experience the Shekinah glory!
Millie

Dear Church Family, As most of you know, I’ve had rather extensive shoulder surgery, much more than was expected, and have been recovering at home these past 3 months. I want to thank you for all the acts of kindness you have shown me through meals, cards, offers to help, and mostly your thoughts and prayers. They have meant so much to me and have helped me through these first months of a very long recovery road. I have made good progress, but I have many more months of physical therapy ahead of me so will appreciate your continued prayers. It is a blessing to be a part of such a loving and caring church family! Thank you so much! Cindy Smith
Dear Second Avenue, Thanks so much for the flowers on Mother’s Day for being the oldest member. I’m so thankful to have lived 96 years and to have you all as my dear friends. Love, Edith Swint
Dear Friends at 2nd Ave. Methodist, I greatly appreciate your kindness in recognizing us with a gift card, though I do this (Children’s Choir) in love. I look forward to each Wednesday evening when I get to spend time with such a sweet group. Much love and appreciation, Kathy Urquhart
