Attendees - including MTA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Thomas Prendergast - lined up to play the Second Avenue Subway Simulator, giving them a glimpse of what Phase 1 of the project will look like when it’s completed in December 2016. Construction Update

• The center work zone on Second Avenue between 78th and 79th Streets will be maintained to pour concrete for tracks in the underground tunnels.

• Water main replacement work will continue on the west side of Second Avenue between 83rd and 84th Streets.

• Sidewalk restoration on the west side of Second Avenue between 82nd and 84th Streets is ongoing.

• Construction of the Ancillary 1 building (northwest corner of 83rd Street) has reached full height. Above ground work will continue, including installation of building finishes.

• There will be intermittent sidewalk closures on the east side of Second Avenue between 83rd and 84th Street to facilitate deliveries of escalator segments for the station entrance. The deliveries, approved by DOT, will only occur during off-peak hours (10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.). Pedestrians will be directed by flaggers to the west side of Second Avenue.

• Construction of the ADA-compliant elevator on the Southeast side of 86th Street will continue.

• The contractor continues to receive deliveries of equipment at the Ancillary 2 access shaft (northwest corner of 86th Street) and 87th Street.

• Delivery of equipment and systems throughout the station will continue, including equipment to power the station, escalators, elevators, traction power, signal, and communication systems.

• One lane will be closed on 86th Street, west of Second Avenue, for installation of Verizon cable. The work will take place on February 6th, 13th, and 20th from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., per DOT approval, to minimize impacts on weekday rush-hour traffic.

• Installation of concrete masonry walls at the platform, mezzanine, and upper mezzanine levels.

• Installation of architectural finishes: wall panels, floor tile, acoustic panels, and service carriers on the platform and mezzanine levels continues.

• Installation of HVAC ductwork, insulation, chillers, transformers, and control panels at all levels.

• Installation of electrical conduit at all levels of the station and Entrance 1 (northeast corner of 83rd Street and Second Avenue) and Entrance 2 (east side of 86th Street and Second Avenue).

• Installation of the water mist fire suppression system continues throughout the station.

Future Mezzanine level of 86th Street Station Entrance.

The future 86th Street Station will have two new entrances including 10 escalators, and one street-level ADA accessible elevator at the southeast corner of 86th Street and Second Avenue. Work in this area is to construct the station cavern, entrances and ancillary spaces for the future station.

The follow-on contractor 86th Street Constructers, Joint Venture (86STCJV) took over the finishes portion of the contract in December 2014. 86STCJV is responsible for the construction of the station facilities and architectural finishes, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, and entrances above street level; construction of the ancillary facilities up to and above street level; and restoration of the street and sidewalks in the station area. Estimated completion of this station is Fall of 2016.

• The Finishes, Entrances, Ancillaries, and Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Systems Contract (86th St. Constructors JV) is: 67.49% complete.

• The 86th Street Station is 87.35% complete.

• The Second Avenue Subway project construction is 90.8% complete.
