plot summaryTravel back to the legendary, storytelling days of ancient China with Disney’s MULAN JR., the action-packed stage adaptation of Disney’s film. Defying the village matchmaker, Mulan takes up arms and disguises herself as a boy in order to spare her father from having to serve in the army. The Huns have invaded, and it is up to the misfit Mulan and her mischievous sidekick Mushu to save the Emperor! Disney’s MULAN JR. is a heartwarming celebration of culture, honor, and the fighting spirit.

Can you find the nod to jazz composers George and Ira Gershwin in our production? HINT: Listen carefully to Mulan in “Keep ‘Em Guessin’”.

As Mulan leaves to take her father’s place at war, she sings “Father and Mother, don’t wear white for me.” In Ancient Chinese culture white clothing was traditionally worn when mourning the dead.

musical musingsDid you know?Fa Mulan, courageous and self-reliant, is the eighth Disney Princess and first appeared in Disney’s 36th animated feature film Mulan. The 1998 movie is based on a fifth century Chinese poem, The Ballad of Mulan, written as a discussion of gender equality.
