SEASON AND CROP COVERAGE (KHARIF-2017 SEASON)

1. WEATHER CONDITIONS

1.1. South-West Monsoon-2017: The South-West Monsoon is crucial for the Agriculture sector. The Meteorological

Department, (IMD) has announced that, the South-west Monsoon has arrived over Kerala on 30-5-2017. In Andhra

Pradesh, Monsoon arrived on June 7th

over Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra Pradesh and it has further advanced into

remaining parts of Andhra Pradesh on June 14. Due to depression over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of

Coastal Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh, heavy rainfall received during 3rd

week of July in North Coastal districts of

Andhra Pradesh and S W monsoon has been active over the state.

Overall, the average rainfall received in Andhra Pradesh from 1-6-2017 to 26.07.2017 is recorded as

214.2 mm as against the Normal as on date of 224.7 mm showing by normal -5 per cent.

All the Major reservoirs is holding 217.86 tmc as on 26.07.2017 and at this time last year, the level had stood at

249.16 tmc. The water levels in all major reservoirs as on 26.07.2017 are furnished hereunder.

III. CROP SOWINGS

Kharif- 2017:

The total area sown in the State is 14.09 lakh ha., (35%) as against the normal area of 40.47

lakh ha. and Normal as on date is 17.02 lakh ha. (83%).

IV. AGRICULTURAL OPERATIONS

Sowings of Kharif crops are under progress. Maize, Jowar, Bajra, Groundnut, Sesamum,

Cotton, Mesta, crops are at vegetative stage. Greengram, Blackgram crops are at vegetative to

flowering stage. Sugarcane is at grand growth stage. In Kurnool district, Groundnut and Cotton crops

in Western mandals were suffering from moisture stress. An area of 60685 hectares of paddy nurseries

is raised in the state. Raising of Paddy nurseries is completed in Godavari delta. In North Coastal

districts, raising of nurseries and transplantations of paddy are under progress.

V. PESTS AND DISEASES The pests & diseases on crops have been reported at below ETL. Control measures were

advocated. However, the District Joint Directors of Agriculture are instructed to keep close watch on

the situation and take up timely action to control pests & diseases.
