9. GENERAL BUSINESS
• Michael Henley: Seaview has pulled the rug out from under us again. We have since acquired Springbank High School.
• Jason: Do we have a key for the onsite shed at the club? o Yes, we do, Scott has it.
• Ben Porter: Are we going to run 4 sides again? What is happening with the juniors? o We are likely going to run 4 sides again, the juniors are already coming through
the ranks
• Geoff George: Has the sporting club asked us for a donation of sorts yet? o Not as yet.
• Peter Roach: With the COVID Pandemic, it will be hard to acquire more sponsors this year
• Ben Porter: With the COVID Pandemic, are we starting at the same time? o At this stage, nothing has been put forward in an official statement indicating
when we will start playing.
• Chris Spehr: We were told that there was something happening with regards to getting new nets as part of the rebuild:
o The rumour was facilitated by someone at the council who is no longer there, no one else at the council seems to know that this was discussed
• Ben Porter: I think it would be prudent to have a chairman of selectors. o Seems to be a generally accepted role, to be discussed at the next committee
meeting.
• Junior Coordinator asked that the club adopts the SACA policies regarding child protection & safety, voted on and agreed.
The AGM closed at 12:57pm.

CLUB REPORT
After a season “on the road” it was a pleasure to return to our spiritual home at Kellett
Reserve, which now has: a repositioned pitch with stuck-down matting, a small cyclone
perimeter fence, spacious changerooms, plus a new bar in a modern clubroom with
catering that provides post -practice and after-match meals. Use of Seaview High School
remained unreliable, so C and D-grades played home games at Springbank High School.
Being where we train and play makes it much easier to organize sides and social activities.
An innovation was regular on-line live-scoring of A-grade games, or at least our batting
innings. Scores from other games, plus social news and comments via Club Chat and
Facebook were other features.
For the fifth consecutive season our A-grade has made the finals, this time in third
position, but had only one minor-round win against the other finalists and that was against
their semi-final opponent, Sheidow Park. Strike bowler Aaron Fishwick was unavailable for
day-one, which meant losing the toss was a costly blow that enabled Sheidow Park to
score 335. Replying with 214 our second highest A-grade finals score, meant the A-grade
has won one semi-final from its last six attempts. At home, the second ranked D-grade
needed 205 but fell 68 runs short. Our sad finals record is, one win from ten matches since
our 2012-13 C-grade flag.
After seven seasons as captain, Scott Paterson handed the reins to Aaron Fishwick, but
before Christmas he too relinquished the role to Dion Gregory, with Dan Voyzey being the
Twenty20 captain. A patient opening bat, Voyzey had his best season for the club, four
fifties in 441 runs beating fellow opener Daniel Florence’s 359 hard hit runs. Scott
Paterson’s 303 runs was the sixth time in eight seasons he has passed the 300 mark.
Support came from ever-reliable Kev Brokensha with 248 runs, the pulverizing or poultry
Mat Crawford with 240 that included the season’s high of 87. Mark Nurney 137 and Bharat
Roocke 115 added good support. The best partnership was 87 by Crawford and Paterson
for the third wicket.
Morphettville Park had two of the top four bowlers in Section Two, Aaron Fishwick second
with 26 wickets and Dion Gregory fourth with 24 which include the side’s best haul of 4/8.
Regular wicket-taker Bharat Roocke grabbed 22 to total 418 and become the sixth highest
wicket-taker for the club. Support came from Dan Voyzey 11 and promising pacemen Mat
Wolfenden 10. Wicket-keeper Paterson, who won the Section Two wicket-keeping award,
took the most catches with 19 from Voyzey with eleven.
Again, this season Morphettville Park won its round-robin section of ASCA’s T20
competition, and again bowed out in the semi-final to the eventual winners, Coromandel
Ramblers, who also beat us in a qualifying match of the SAMCA T20 competition. We are
the best non-Section One side in T20 however that contrasts with our A-grade Saturday
one-day form which saw us win only three matches, all against bottom-four sides.
Caleb Rybalka’s B-grade side was dropped one grade to Section Four. They won three
matches, all against the bottom two clubs and drew three others to finish sixth. Despite
that low ranking they had the third and fourth best batsmen in Section Four with solid
opener Kym Woodward’s 392 runs, which included the season’s best of 120 winning him
his fifth batting trophy (1A, 4B) and Travis Hebbard who made 371 with a best of 86.
S E A S O N 2 0 2 0 - 2 0 2 1
6
Strong support came from Mark Voyzey 186, Brett Barker 136 and Andrew Smith with 132
runs that included a maiden fifty. The best partnership came from Woodward and
Hebbard, who compiled 119 for the third wicket.
It was the bowling where they were most exposed. Only four bowlers got to ten wickets,
the best being paceman Andrew Smith with thirteen, the second lowest in the B’s 52
seasons. Support came from Mark Voyzey with 12 that included the best of 5/42, plus
Daniel Golding and Matt Duncan with ten each. Wicket-keeper Rybalka took 8 catches
while Hebbard led the fielders with 7.
Our C-grade also dropped one grade to Section Seven, came a creditable fifth with six
wins and three draws. They beat six of the other seven clubs including the eventual
premier. Daniel Monro keeps on getting runs, this time scoring 315 runs, to win his fourth
batting trophy (2B, 2C). From half a season Steven Thomas made 246 runs that included
the high of 74 not out, with support coming from Jess Keon 152, Evan Park 113 and Pat
Broadwood 101. Thomas and Monro shared the season’s best partnership of 144
The bowling was tight tussle with young Ethan Jones and old Brenton Crosby tying on 16
wickets. While this is Ethan’s first, it is captain Brenton’s fourth win in the last five seasons
and he also took the season’s best of 5/16. Heath Culliver came a close third with 15 in
half a season. Pat Broadwood was the best fielder with 4 catches.
Andrew Jones’ D-grade in Section Nine improved to win nine matches and finish the minor
round second, but with both lower-ranked sides winning their semi-finals, they dropped to
fourth. Chris Spehr 549 runs won his fifth consecutive D-grade batting trophy and was
second best in Section Nine. He scored three centuries, the highest of which, 121 not out,
was the club’s best individual score of the season. Jason Crisp scored 216 runs and
Michael Barnett made 152. Support came from wicket-keeper Ben Porter 137 runs, Geoff
George 126, Dylan Johns 120 and Mark Simons 111. Spehr and George shared the best
partnership of 140 runs for the third wicket, while Johns and Simons created a club record
ninth-wicket partnership of 120.
Jason Crisp with 19 wickets won the D-grade bowling award for the third time. Useful
medium pacer Liam Bates with 18 wickets (including his father) added his name to that list,
beating Michael Barnett’s twelve. Dylan Johns and Chris Spehr took eleven each, with
spinner Geoff George getting 10 wickets, as well as the season’s best of 4/18 that included
a hat-trick. Wicket-keeper Ben Porter took 14 catches to win the Section’s wicket-keeping
award, while Cody Gregory was the best fielder with 11 catches.

Morphettville Park’s junior program is becoming more successful each season. This is
where our future begins. The highlight was the tense finish to the under-16 T20 grand final,
which saw Morphettville Park claim the tenth wicket off the last ball of the last over giving
victory by one run! Thanks go to Peter Roach for coordinating five teams, as well as Caleb
Rybalka, Jason Crisp, Les Roach, and Chris King for managing a side. Again, many
juniors enjoyed experiencing senior cricket in our various grades, where they acquitted
themselves well.
2020-21 saw our two leading officials replaced. Scott Paterson became President, while
Mathew Crawford took on the role of Secretary. Together with their active committee, the
club had a good year socially and money-wise. Financial help came from our sponsors,
chief of whom were: Commercial Finance Australia; Civil Surveys and Design; A&S
window cleaning; Elder Meat Store; Newmarket Ingredients; IGA Morphettville; Flair
Curtains Blinds and Shutters; Geoff George - VIP Lawns and Gardens; Cowan
Restoration.
Next season will involve celebrations for our hundredth season. We have grown from a
one-side church club, to a competitive well run four-side cricket club. However, we still
have cricket jobs ahead of us. To return to Section One; to get our other sides to support
the top side by winning their grades and thereby reducing the grade-gap between sides; to
further build our junior ranks and have those players wanting to graduate to Saturday
afternoon cricket with Morphettville Park. All sides have done well enough this season to
remain in their respective Sections. Our nets are being upgraded during winter. With
further inter-mingling of young keen juniors, our centenary season should be a successful
one.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT
It is my honour to present our Club’s 99th and my 1st President’s Report for Season
2020/21. Once again, this season we had a lot of new faces on the committee & everyone
was keen to get back onto our home ground & enjoy the new facilities that greeted us.
Not only were the A & B grade enjoying being back on our home turf, we also found a new
home for our C & D grade teams. Pasadena High School provided their facilities for us to
use for the season & we have been able to lock them in already for the upcoming season.
We are very lucky to have a second home ground so close to our club rooms & we hope to
continue this relationship as long as we can.
With the luxury of having our clubrooms back, the committee focused on making sure at
the end of each match we did presentations & announce selections on a Thursday after
trainings. In conjunction with these we also introduced meat tray raffles & chase the ace to
help generate more income for the club but more importantly create some extra
entertainment around the club for our members.
The juniors proved once again to be a vital part of the senior set up, through the success
that our junior program has had over the past few years, we are seeing more & more
youngsters coming through the ranks and merging on with senior players effortlessly. As
the junior program goes from strength to strength this is helping pave the way for a
successful senior player base for the years to come, I would like to thank everyone from
the junior program for all the great work you all do year in, year out.
This season saw our A & D grade both make the finals, unfortunately neither team could
progress to the grand final, however both teams should be proud of their achievements &
have the drive to push further next season. Our B & C grade both had up and down
seasons due to having players coming in & out every week. Both teams have shown
throughout the season that they can compete with the best in their section & will be looking
to crack into finals next season.
Looking to next season, we are pushing for a fifth team for the first time. Being our
centenary year, it would be a great achievement to have such strong player numbers at
our club. I, along with our current committee, are looking forward to celebrating our
centenary season both on & off the field.

TREASURER’S REPORT
The club’s 99th treasurers report is a little more complicated than usual with COVID-19 shutting down season 2019–20 after the final round. You will notice this has resulted in some of last season’s financials occurring during season 2020–21, most notably two presentation nights in the same season—in all likelihood a club first. Overall, it has been another really strong year for the club financially, a record sponsorship contribution, successful raffle activity and 97% of subs paid this season will see a strong profit posted. At the time of writing, the club still has a couple of expenses that we are yet to be invoiced for and some other money owed so this year’s actual profit will come down from the current figure of $12,746. On the revenue side, a massive thank you to our sponsors with an expected sponsorship profit this year of over $5,500. The club has also had its best ever year with raffles, a new format of Meat Tray Thursdays and Chase-the-Ace Saturdays, combined with being able to use EFTPOS really made a difference this year with an overall raffle profit of $4,494. Our first time signing up for Toyota Good for Cricket raffle also earned the club $644. Other notable revenue items include a government grant of $2,310 and we also sold a set of our old cricket mats for $700. The year’s expenses were fairly standard, again we have detailed in the report how much it costs to put a cricket team on the park this season. On average, to field one team costs us $2,769, so with subs at $250 per player this season I think we had that about right, a big thank you to everyone for taking care of their sub’s payments. Kym’s off-spin cost us $236 with a broken window, to go with the garage door damage payout from two seasons ago. Since the new houses have been built closer to the pitch, unfortunately this looks like becoming a new regular expense for the club. In looking forward to season 2021–22, we don’t expect to see another large profit as we did this season, the committee has been consciously saving money in order to have plenty of funds available to spend on next seasons centenary year, which I’m sure we are all looking forward to. Thank you to everyone for their assistance this year, particularly Dion and Sandra for their work with co-ordinating sponsorship and Kev for organising the eskies.

ASSOCIATION DELEGATES’ REPORT ADELAIDE & SUBURBAN CRICKET ASSOCIATION INC.
COVID19’s pandemic cancelled ASCA’s March meeting and April’s trophy presentation
night. Meetings resumed in July with presentations incorporated into the August AGM.
Adjustments to 2020-21 playing conditions had to be made to mitigate any spread of
COVID-19. Alcohol wipes for sanitizing the match ball were provided to every side, while
hand sanitizer had to be available at all matches. Also, umpires no longer held hats. The
competition proceeded well until round 5 was cancelled due to a state-wide lockdown. All
games were recorded as a draw.
Our monthly meeting rooms at Mitchell Park were demolished in December, with meetings
held at either Morphettville, or Plympton clubrooms.
RULE CHANGES
The main amendments passed at the August AGM were:
• To assist live scoring of matches, squads for every side are to be entered onto
MyCricket before Saturday. Pre-match changes are permitted.
• Minor changes were made to finals qualification rules due to the 14-game season.
• To acknowledge current practice, clearances can be requested by email, in lieu of
paper.
• Kookaburra balls. Tuf Pitch is to be used in all ASCA matches. However in lieu of
four-piece balls for turf matches, captains can agree to use a two-piece ball.
• No changes were made to affiliation fees or umpire payments.
• The 7+7 match format was again adopted for 2020-21.
OTHER BUSINESS
• Punjab Lions entered one side and had immediate success by winning Section 3.
• Andrew Wright, long-time umpire and current Treasurer, was honoured with Life
Membership.
• Phil Davis was re-elected as President for his 32nd season. The executive
committee had a couple of new faces. A mid-season vacancy was caused by the
untimely passing of Life Member Peter Berkshire.
• When Keswick filled the Section 10 bye there were 80 sides in 10 Sections. There
were some forfeits, also round five was lost to a COVID shutdown. No matches
were lost to heat, but rain did affect two or three rounds.
• Insurance through the March company was $100 per side.
• My Cricket’s still has a few bugs, and occasionally clubs are tardy in entering their
match details, but it is proving an invaluable tool for clubs.
• On ASCA’s presentation night for season 2020-2021 two of our wicket-keepers won
an award. Scott Paterson won in Section 2 and Ben Porter won Section 9.
• Mental Health round was held in round 7 and will probably be repeated in 2021-22.
• Twilight T20 matches at Morphettville may not be scheduled for 2021-22 due to the
position of the setting sun in relation to the pitch. Sunday afternoon home matches
should be a viable alternative.

FINANCE
• ASCA’s sponsorship from Kookaburra provides $7000, balls for finals, three match
bats which ASCA auctioned, as well as five pairs each of pads and batting gloves,
plus match balls for finals. SportsCentre is ASCA’s preferred supplier for clothing
and trophies, but that sponsorship is up for renewal for 2021-22 and beyond.
• With the abandonment of inter-association matches, fewer expenses, plus the
Kookaburra sponsorship, ASCA will report a profit of about $4000 for 2020-21.
INTER-ASSOCIATION MATCHES
No inter-association matches were scheduled this season due to COVID -19. ASCA did
accept an offer to play the state aboriginal cricket team, SA Boomerangs, in a twilight T20
match at Karen Rolton Oval. SA Boomerangs 10/155 defeated ASCA 8/145. It was a great
experience for all involved.
Next season may see a match against Adelaide Turf CA and possibly the SA Boomerangs.
PREMIERS
Finals resumed after 2019-20’s COVID-19 abandonment. The winners were:
Section 1: Keswick Section 2: Coromandel Section 3: Punjab Lions
Section 4: Sheidow Park II Section 5: ICC Sharks III Section 6: Coromandel Ramblers III
Section 7: Keswick III Section 8: South Park Section 9: Sheidow Park V
Section 10: Adelaide Lutheran III. T20: Coromandel Ramblers 7/148 d Cove 8/118 at Cove.
The Hewett Medallist for the best player in Section One was Josh Rosman from
Coromandel Ramblers, while the John Zadow Medallist for Section Two was won by Jai
Koirala from Coromandel with 14 votes in five games. Dan Voyzey scored 12 votes from
seven games and was involved in a tie for second with Josh Lourens (Coromandel) and
Cohen Mattner (North Haven). Bharat Roocke was our next best with eight votes.
GENERAL
• There were 14 umpires on ASCA’s panel. Except for one match, Sections One and
Two always had an umpire, with any remaining umpires doing “tight” games in
lower grades. All umpires, official or players, should be treated with respect. They
all make mistakes. Accept their decisions, they aren’t going to change them. If
ASCA umpires err, get your captain to say how in his report and grade their
performance accordingly. Rational feedback should improve their performance in
future matches. In self-umpired matches, get your captain to liaise with the
opposition captain or umpire. Don’t rant and rave.
• Next season’s fixtures should be a similar 7+7 format with the season finishing the
last weekend in March. Two new clubs have made enquiries about affiliating, while
a couple of current clubs are considering their future.
• As a losing semi-finalist again in ASCA’s T20 competition, Morphettville Park has
qualified for the 2021-22 SAMCA T20 Cup competition that includes clubs from all
metropolitan associations. All games are knock out and start in November when the
ASCA sides play each other. Surely, we can’t draw Coromandel Ramblers again!
• Club umpire payments by BSB transfer to ASCA seem to be working well.
