GOOGLE

Evaluation Criteria

A. Ease of Use and User-Friendliness

Google is the most popular search engine in World Wide Web. It has been the favorite search engine since 1998 because of its simple and clean interface. It can return hundreds of millions of results faster than the speed of light.

B. Availability of HelpIf the users have concerns or inquiries regarding Google, the search engine also provides a Help Center function. Through the Help Center, they can find information on how to change your location on Google, turn SafeSearch on or off, delete browsing history, and other concerns.

C. Availability of Advanced Search Features

Google has an advanced search feature. Using this feature, users can filter the results into their liking.

D. Number of results returnedGoogle can provide users hundreds of millions of results depending on the level of difficulty of the queries. Below are the sample phrases used in evaluating Google.

3. Mobile marketing

4. Online recruitment

E. Speed that results are returned and displayedGoogle can return the results of your queries in less than a minute. However, it still depends on how fast your internet is.

When the user searches something on Google, it will look for web pages, websites, and other documents that contain words matching your query, relevant or not. However, the users can change the level of relevance of the results by using the Advance Search Function.

G. Diversity of Sources TappedGiven that Google randomly returns the results, it provides widely diversified sources that ranges from websites, online news and articles, magazines, online journals, etc.

H. Classification/ Categorization of results by source, relevance, closeness of matchGoogle’s advanced search feature can help users classify the results by source, relevance, and closeness of match.

I. Ability to automatically filter results for user-specified termsBy carefully picking the terms that the users use, Google can return you results that are relevant to your queries.

J. Ability to remove duplicate links from multiple sitesGoogle does not automatically remove duplicate links from multiple sites. If Google, found a matching site or document relative to the query, it will return the result even if other sites have the same links.

K. Ability to construct complex search parameters using Boolean operatorsUsers can use Boolean operators to increase the level of relevance of the results returned by Google. Below are some of the Boolean operators used in evaluating Google:

b. For “Search engine marketing”, the results went down from 103,000,000 to 12,300,000.

c. For “Mobile marketing”, the results went down from 362,000,000 to 9,900,000.

d. For “Online recruitment”, the results went down from 308,000,000 to 604,000.

2. Including/Excluding (+/–word +/-phrase)

There are other several Boolean operators that users can use to filter the results returned by Google.

L. Ability to locate images, audio, and video clips, PDFs and other file formats

Google classifies the results base on their file formats.

1. METASEARCH: DUCKDUCKGO

Evaluation Criteria

A. Ease of Use and User-FriendlinessLike Google, DuckDuckGo has a simple and clean platform, which is good because it will be easier to use.

B. Availability of HelpFor concerns, and inquiries DuckDuckGo also provides a Help Center feature for the users. The users can pick a category from the list in which their concerns are related. They can also directly search for the information they want to know.

C. Availability of Advanced Search FeaturesDuckDuckGo has no advanced search features.

D. Number of results returnedDuckDuckGo does not show the number of results returned.

E. Speed that results are returned and displayedDuckDuckGo does not show the speed in which the results are returned and displayed.

F. Relevance of Results ReturnedLike any other search engines, DuckDuckGo randomly looks for matching results, whether relevant to the query or not.

G. Diversity of Sources Tapped

Like Google, DuckDuckGo also provides wide varieties of sources.

H. Classification/ Categorization of results by source, relevance, closeness of matchDuckDuckGo does not classify, categorize the results by source, relevance, and closeness of match.
