SEABROOK’S CAMPING PROGRAM As part of our camping program grade two children enjoyed their experience of sleeping away from home last week. 124 children participated in the program preparing them for their 2 night camp in grade 3 next year. The children were very excited undertaking the activities including having their dinner and breakfast at school. Our grade threes returned on Friday afternoon from their camp at Phillip Island having had a great time. Today our grade one students

have their late stay at school. As always, a big ‘thank you’ to the staff and parents who take time away from their families to support this valuable extra-curricular program. It is important to mention that teachers and school staff do not get paid to go away on camp or stay late after normal hours. Staff volunteer to do these special events to support your children. They appreciate your thanks and prompt collection of your child. REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY THIS FRIDAY Please join us for our annual school based remembrance ceremony to be hosted by our year 5 students. The children will conduct the event commencing at 11:30am. Jill Hennessey MP member for Altona District will be attending and will later be presenting some children with certificates of completion following the Premiers’ Reading Challenge. Everyone is welcome to join us. Please inform the office if you are intending to leave Seabrook Primary School at the end of 2016. BOOK FAIR Seabrook Primary School parents and children have until the end of the week to visit the Book Fair being held in the library. It is a great opportunity to promote reading and literature in the family and perhaps pick up some gifts for Christmas. Parents may visit the book fair at any time during school hours in addition to the morning and afternoon open times. BOOK LISTS Book lists have been distributed to all families. Additional copies are available on our website and Skoolbag. Payments can be made now using Qkr, EPTPOS, VISA, cheque or cash. Unfortunately at this stage 2017 Prep students payments can only be made through the office.

REBEL SPORT If you are shopping for sporting goods please consider the REBEL sports store at the Point Cook Town Centre. Our school has been able to purchase over $600.00 worth of sporting equipment thanks to credits accrued when families have shopped there. Mr Ganley and Mr Trott are always thankful when they can purchase new equipment and replace old. SEABROOK MINI OLYMPICS Is scheduled for tomorrow. Students can wear their house colour t-shirt displaying their house colours. We encourage parents, families and friends to come along, cheer ion and support the children during the sessions. It could be fun for all.

UNIFORM The uniform committee is providing the community with ample warning that children need to be wearing the correct school uniform in 2017. Reminder letters will be send out to families when children do not present in their correct garments. Please refer to the uniform policy. Please refer to the following page for the summary of the winter and summer uniform garment list. Please see Mrs Treloar if you need any help with providing correct uniform. WORKING BEE A Friday after school working bee is coming, the date will be confirmed next week. COOK BOOK ORDERS Orders are still being taken for our Seabrook International Cook book. Order forms are available at the office. Cookbooks are $25 each or buy 3 for $60. NOTIFICATION OF AN EMERGENCY DRILL

The day will be broken down into Junior school - (Grades Prep, One, Two)

commencing at approx 9:05am - 10:45am and

Senior school (Grades Three, Four, Five, Six)

commencing at approx 1:10pm - 3:00pm. The students will compete in groups in several fun traditional activities/rotations during this time, as they gain points for their house teams/squadre: Cobalt – blu, Orange – arancione, Green – verde, Purple – viola.

If students could wear their house colour t.shirt or another t.shirt displaying their house colour, that would be great. We encourage parents, families and friends to come along, cheer on and support the children during the sessions. It should be a fun day for all. Speriamo di vedervi là – We hope to see you there!

Grade 2 Sleepover

On Thursday the 3rd

of November the Grade 2s had a sleep over. The children had a great experience sleeping for one night at school. They participated in various activities, sports games and watched a movie. They also enjoyed having pizza for dinner, popcorn with the movie and breakfast with their peers and teachers.

The children also had the opportunity to be independent and responsible by setting up their own sleeping arrangements, brushing their teeth and also packing up all their belongings at the end of the sleep over. They spent some time with their peers, teachers and the volunteers. Thank you to all the Grade 2 teachers and volunteers for making this event successful and wonderful for all the children. 5KP are TAKING ACTION as part of our current inquiry: 'We have rights and responsibilities in the distribution of the world’s resources’. We are supporting the West Welcome Wagon in their Summer Food Drive. The items you generously donate will help the WWW provide food hampers, bathroom basics and a few lovely festive season items to many asylum seeker households and families in the West.

The main items we are collecting are: UHT full cream milk, vegetable oil, rice (long grain / basmati), flour, black tea, coffee, tinned diced tomatoes / kidney beans or 5 bean mix, salt & pepper, sugar, dried chickpeas, dishwashing liquid and spices. Please drop all your donations to Room 40 by Thursday December 1st. Thank you for your support!

Grade 3 Camp Phillip Island

Grade 3 Camp 3RB

Last week Grade 3s had an exhilarating experience at Phillip Island Adventure Resort camp. Our students were complimented for their lovely manners and positive attitudes towards having a go at all activities at camp. The students worked well in teams and supported their peers by showing empathy and respecting each other.

Here are some of our reflections: My favourite activity at camp was raft making. It enjoyed making the raft and winning against team 2. I also celebrated my 9

th birthday while on camp. I showed

the PYP attitude of risk taker by swimming in the lake and helping my peers pull the raft together. Alfred

Circotron Our favourite activity was the Circotron . We experienced weightlessness and got to do flips, hung upside down and have loads of fun. Nicky, Aliya and Nicholas

I showed the PYP attitude of confidence by being the demonstrator on the circotron. Ursa

Canoeing Our favourite activity was canoeing. We worked with a partner and paddled the canoe. It was fun splashing water and cruising around with my buddy.

Giant Swing Our favourite activity was the Giant Swing. We showed the PYP attitudes of risk taker and enthusiasm by going outside our comfort zone and having a go at it. Olivia and Khadeeja

We liked it because we went 18 metres high. We had butterflies in our tummy. Ursa, Caitlin and Jack

I was picked to be the demonstrator and I was confident to go 18 metres high. I enjoyed the beautiful birds eye view from the top. Chloe and Zahin.

Grade 3 Camp 3KW

Grade Three had an awesome time at Phillip Island Camp last week. Some of the students from 3KW shared their thoughts at assembly this week, here are a collection of

them: The best part of camp was: Was going on the giant swing because everyone was screaming and it was fun. Tyler The Circotron because it felt like you were in space and everyone’s faces looked funny and shocked! Jack The building of the rafts because we fell in and got to play in the water. Lily-Rose The Circotron because we got to go upside down, sideways and go crazy!!!! I couldn’t even control myself. Katie The giant swing because I like going up high. It was really fun swinging from the top to the bottom. Ayden The giant swing because it was so much fun and I went high. Niva Canoeing and rafting because we got to fool around in the water when we fell off! Sayed

The raft making because we got to get wet and the giant swing because it went really fast!!!! Max Raft making because we got wet and we had lots of fun. Hanry The Circotron because I like getting dizzy and spinning around. Andy Raft making because I got to push my friends into the lake and everyone was screaming and laughing! Shashwat The delicious food – where else would you get baked potatoes with all the trimmings for lunch then schnitzel, chips and vegies for dinner AND apple crumble and cream for dessert !!! I was in heaven. Mr Wood Flipping on the Circotron very quickly - it was my favourite. I had fun on my birthday which was on Friday. Sonia Being with my friends because they are caring, funny and silly! I miss camp! Prerana Winning first prize in the Talent Show! and going on the circotron Liam Canoeing and raft making because I got to get wet and sink. Daniel

Grade 3 Camp 3KM

GRADE 3 PHILLIP ISLAND CAMP

On the 2nd

of November our day started at school, as we excitedly rushed into class, then to bus one. Our things got packed onto the bus and we happily waved goodbye to Seabrook Primary. The bus ride was long, but we finally got there and we entered the function room, we were then welcomed by Penny. After the introduction, Mrs Bahadur put us in our cabin groups. Our cabin was 51. Then we got put into our activity groups. I was again with my cabin mates. Then we rushed off to the Giant Swing. The Giant Swing isn’t any ordinary swing. It was a drop swing. You pull a green rope and swing. It easily took us by surprise. Then we did the initiative course. This was a mini set of activities.

On day two we did the circotron. When I went on I felt sick so I stopped. It was three circles that you control. Then we did photo hunt. We had to find everything in the photos. Then Mr Bell let us roll on the hill. After, we went to the beach. We got our feet wet. Then we went canoeing. Mr Bell splashed us and tripped Takesha and Meika over. On the last day we did rafting, got to the buoy and got soaked. The camp was related to our current inquiry because we learnt to live together peacefully. My favourite activity was rafting because we had to swim. By Serena

Italian News

In Semester 2, students in grade 1 have been offered an innovative program based on the CLIL approach (Content and Language Integrated Learning). For 10 weeks the students have been learning Music through the Italian language. It means that not only the content (music skills) was in Italian but also the language of instruction: I have been speaking Italian to teach new content and to give instructions to the children. This week they are bringing home a little booklet with all the activities we have developed throughout the semester. Each child’s work is presented as the child completed it with only a brief teacher’s comment in order to give to families an idea of the effort they have put into it. If some activities are missing, it’s because the child was absent on that day. I believe each student has done an excellent job showing commitment and enthusiasm, being at times a risk-taker and inquirer, open minded, reflective, knowledgeable and caring. In the booklet you will also find a parent survey. I would like to have the families’ feedback on this program in order to continue and extend it in grade 2.
