Seabrook Plantation
Seabrook is located in the South Carolina low country on Edisto Island. It is one of the prettiest antebellum plantations in America. The property has been managed for hunting
and other recreational activities since the 1930’s
The historic main house was built in 1810 by William Seabrook, one of the wealthiest planters of his time. The plan of this house became the prototype of many of the plantation
manors built afterwards. The house contains three stories with 5,740 square feet of heated and cooled space. Features include high ceilings, hardwood floors, six bedrooms, a
floating double staircase, seven fireplaces, and large porches.
The land surrounding the house covers 350 acres of a virtual Eden with semi-tropical landscapes and gardens. The plantation has substantial water frontage and spectacular
views for miles. Wildlife is plentiful for hunters and excellent inshore and offshore fishing is available for anglers.
Improvements: In addition to the main house Seabrook has two guest houses, a caretaker’s house, carriage house, two green houses, two docks, a dock and tea house, equipment sheds and several storage facilities. There are three wells, six septic tanks, and three water control devices.
Location: Seabrook is located south of the seaport of Charleston on the east side of Edisto Island 1.6 miles from Hwy 174 on Jenkins Road. By boat one can be in the Atlantic in a few minutes. By car one can be in downtown Charleston in an hour. Kiawah and Seabrook Islands are nearby.
Land Types: There are approximately 300 acres of upland, 20 acres of wetlands, and 30 acres of marsh. The property has 3000 feet of deep water frontage on Steamboat Creek, and 6000 feet of marsh frontage.
Conservation Easements
Seabrook Plantation is protected by conservation easements which allow for the
property to be divided into as many as five parcels. The easements are
held by The Charleston Preservation Society and The Lowcountry Open Land Trust.
Copies of the easements are available from Plantation Services.
The property is offered for sale for $9,850,000
