ABOUT!

My magazine will be a football based magazine based on news from around each league in England including the Barclays Premier League, Championship, League 1, League 2 and even the Vanarama Conference!

By covering the lower leagues it gives my magazine a gap in the market to slide into as no other football magazines gives the lower leagues as much coverage as my magazine ‘Fizz’ will provide. It will be a way that football fans of lower league teams such as Portsmouth or Grimsby Town can read and see photos of the matches that won’t be on TV or online.

It will be produced once a week costing £1.50 per copy this is because in our primary research we discovered that 67% of people that took our questionnaire will being willing to pay any price under £4 for a copy. Despite my primary research showing that more people would prefer the magazine monthly, I think it would work better weekly as then it will be able to represent each weekend results and fixtures. It will come with a free gift from time to time, my magazine will also include a small weekly ‘fashion’ type article showcasing the new latest boots and what boots are best budget buy.

Primary Research!I carried out a test run questionnaire, asking students questions in order to form a

target audience for my magazine, this also helps me

Understand what topics and articles are best to include

In the magazine as more people tend to like these topics

And will be interested enough to buy the mag to read it.

Primary Research!

• We also carried out a quiz on Kahoot and from looking at the primary research results I have created a human (Alfie) who will represent our target audience, this is who the magazine will be aimed at. (Target Audience) From our primary research we can tell that ‘Alfie’

• Listens to the music genre ‘Indie’

• His favourite music band is Blink 182

• Shopping online is his preferred way to shop

• He spends his spare time watching TV/Movies and Playing football

• He buys magazines on a monthly basis

PRIMARY RESEARCH!

• The primary research suggests that the most common age of people who carried out the survey were between the ages of 15 and 24. This will be the age that the magazine will accommodate for.

• Also we found out that people who participated in the survey buy magazines monthly, having this information will be a big help to deciding how often to release an issue of our magazine.

• The most popular topic chosen in the quiz was ‘Fashion’ as 38% people selected this as the topic they are most interested in. This could be something we may need to consider including in our magazine to increase sale figures.

SECONDARY RESEARCH!

• After looking at the secondary research looking at the other types of magazines aimed at the target audience, I’ve noticed that each one has a different style as well as a different layout however each one of them are appealing and are attractive to look at. This is helpful as it will then draw the reader in and make them want to pick it up and buy it. So I’ve discovered looking at these layouts are key when starting to create the magazine.

CONTENT!

• After reviewing the primary and secondary research we can see there are a range of topics that will need to be included in our magazine due to high demand, including these will help build an audience and keep them happy as well as increase sales.

SPORT FASHION MUSIC

SPORT!

• Sport, a topic which is loved by loads of young people, this will be something a magazine aimed at our type of target audience should be including in their magazine.

• After researching sporting magazines, I found that football seems to be at the top of the popularity chart, with articles reporting on match results as well as upcoming fixtures and not to forget interviews and transfer news and gossip! This is something we’d like to incorporate into our magazine.

• Competition for Sports Magazines include the likes of:

Four Four Two, MATCH, Match of the day, ESPN and Sky Sports Magazine.

FASHION!

Our Primary research told us that the top category of interest was Fashion. This is definitely

need to be something we include in our magazine. After some research I found out that Fashion magazines provide readers with the latest clothing and trends. As well as providing fashion experts tips and tricks with what goes with what and what to wear for each season. A unique selling point for our magazine could be a topic which isn’t often spoken about in the current fashion mags out there, and that’s ways to look great with a budget.

Competition for fashion magazines include:

Vogue, Cosmopolitan, ELLE, Men’s Fashion & GQ

MUSIC!

We found that the age range of our target audience has a wide range of taste in music. It could go on to be our top selling point if we can include the genres that people would

be interested in reading. Topic we could include could be things such as song or tour reviews from popular artists. Interviews with popular artists as well as up and coming music artists. These are the type of topics that our rival music magazines provide so to be able to stay in contention we will need to include these.

Competition for music magazines:

VIBE, Q, Kerrang & NME

LAYOUT!

Something which is going to very important when thinking about designing my magazine is the layout. Our rival magazines tend to have a big image of a celebrity slapped on the front cover, the industry they work in is usually related to the genre of the magazine.

From our primary research we see that 24 out of 41 people said that they are more likely to purchase a magazine because who is on the front cover. Knowing this information, this is something we should consider for our magazine.

Below, is what the inside layout of our magazine will look like and the example below as it’s simple yet looks professional and attractive to look at. Also having a large image can help draw the reader in.

LAYOUT!

• Colour is also a big factor as if the audience don’t like how the colour scheme look and how it’s been designed then they aren’t going to read and buy the magazine. So it’s key we make sure it’s eye catching and appealing for all. Not including a colour which is predominately male of female would be a wise idea as then it would widen our audience.

This pallet shows some unisex colours, these are some of the colours you can expect in our magazine

PRICE!

From looking at the primary research, a majority of the people who took part in the quiz answered that they would only buy a magazine under £4 so we would be considering our price for the magazine to be around £2-£3 in order to appeal to lots of the audience to make more sales. £2.25 sounds like a reasonable price.

Next thing we’d need to consider if the cost of printing the magazine, it is very low, we’d need to consider the fact that a double sided page normally costs 8p.

VOGUE is marketed at £3.99per issue.

FourFourTwo is marketed at £4.75 per issue.
