LEARNING PATHWAYS

EXPLORER

SCIENCE

TECH

HEALTH

The explorer pathway focuses on nature, human impact, and the power of storytelling. We follow the National Geographic framework of A.S.K., a set of attitudes, skills, and knowledge that define an explorer. Explorers are curious, responsible, and empowered. They observe, communicate, and collaborate to solve problems and help make our world a better place.

The science pathway explores the wonders of life the universe and how everything is connected through inquiry‐

based learning in three science education branches of life, physical, and space science. The classes align with NGSS,

following scientific inquiry to instill critical thinking skills by formulating testable predictions, designing and

conducting experiments while learning the importance of failure and the value of iteration.

The health pathway is all about healthy body, mind, and soul. A healthy lifestyle includes being active, balanced

nutrition, and knowing where your food comes from. We work with the Department of Health (Healthy SD)

concepts to help kids live better and grow stronger.

The tech pathway encompasses engineering, coding, and entertainment technology. From the engineering design process to programming skills, these abilities combine creativity and digital tools to solve problems. Inspired by the ISTA (International Society for Technology in Education) framework we create innovating learning environments, that help students succeed in the Information Age.

Our programs at the SD Discovery Center offer hands‐on exploration that builds passion for and knowledge of science across generations; students,

teachers, families, citizens. We deliver high‐quality classes integrated into learning pathways that focus on lasting teaching impacts to help students find their path,

develop their talents beyond school education, and gain college and career readiness skills to grow a workforce for South Dakota.

We need innovators! Kids naturally think like engineers: they love to explore and figure out how things work. In this class, we stretch your seedlings thinking skills by teaching them how to think creatively and learn to be problem solvers. Together, we think, create, and share through several fun engineering challenges, with preschool STEAM and Lego Education.
