Read the information on intended use to ensure that you use theappliance correctly and safely.Only use this appliance:¡ As specified in this instruction manual.¡ For freezing food and making ice.¡ In private households and in enclosed spaces in a domestic en-

vironment.¡ Up to an altitude of max. 2000 m above sea level.

Restriction on user group

Avoid risks to children and vulnerable persons.This appliance may be used by children aged 8 or over and bypeople who have reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities orinadequate experience and/or knowledge, provided that they aresupervised or have been instructed on how to use the appliancesafely and have understood the resulting dangers.Children must not play with the appliance.Cleaning and user maintenance must not be performed by chil-dren unless they are being supervised.

Safe installation

Follow these safety instructions when installing the appliance.

WARNING ‒ Risk of electric shock!¡ Improper installation is dangerous.▶ Connect and operate the appliance only in accordance with

the specifications on the rating plate.▶ Connect the appliance to a power supply with alternating

current only via a properly installed socket with earthing.▶ The protective conductor system of the domestic electrical

installation must be properly installed.▶ Never equip the appliance with an external switching

device, e.g. a timer or remote control.▶ When the appliance is installed, the mains plug of the

power cord must be freely accessible. If free access is notpossible, an all-pole isolating switch must be installed in thepermanent electrical installation according to the installationregulations.▶ When installing the appliance, check that the power cable is

not trapped or damaged.¡ If the insulation of the power cord is damaged, this is danger-

ous.▶ Never let the power cord come into contact with heat

CAUTION ‒ Risk of harm to health!To prevent food from being contaminated, you must observethe following instructions.▶ If the door is open for an extended period of time, this may

lead to a considerable temperature increase in the compart-ments of the appliance.▶ Regularly clean the surfaces that may come into contact

with food and accessible drain systems.▶ If the fridge/freezer is empty for an extended period of time,

switch off the appliance, defrost it, clean it and leave thedoor open to prevent the formation of mould.

Damaged appliance

Follow the safety instructions if your appliance is damaged.

WARNING ‒ Risk of electric shock!¡ If the appliance or the power cord is damaged, this is danger-

ous.▶ Never operate a damaged appliance.▶ Never operate an appliance with a cracked or fractured sur-

Note: Too much drinking watermay impair the function of the icecube maker. The ice cubes cannotbe removed individually from theice tray. Too much drinking waterwas added and is running into theice cube container, causing anyice cubes to freeze together.

3. Pour drinking water into the fillinghole  , re-insert the water con-tainer  and slide in the frozenfood container with ice cubemaker  .

4. When the ice cubes are frozen,press the lever down and releaseit.

5. Pull out the ice storage containerand remove the ice cubes.

Operating tips¡ Once you have switched on the

appliance, the set temperature isonly reached after several hours.Do not put any food in the appli-ance until the temperature hasbeen reached.

¡ The front panels of the housing aretemporarily heated slightly. Thisprevents condensation in the areaof the door seal.

¡ When you close the door, a va-cuum may be created. The door isthen difficult to open again. Wait amoment until the vacuum is offset.

Setting the temperatureAfter you have switched on the appli-ance, you can set the temperature.

Automatic Super freezingAutomatic Super freezing automatic-ally switches on when warm food isplaced in the freezer.With automatic Super freezing, thefreezer compartment cools down to amuch lower temperature than for nor-mal mode. This freezes food quicklyright through to the centre.If the automatic Super freezing isswitched on, lights up and in-creased noises may occur.After operation, the applianceswitches from automatic Super freez-ing to normal operation.

Manual Super freezingSuper freezing cools the freezer com-partment as cold as possible. Power failure alarmIf the freezer compartment becomestoo warm after a power failure, thepower failure alarm switches on.lights up and appears in the tem-perature display.

You can store frozen food, freezefood and make ice cubes in thefreezer compartment.The temperature can be set from−16 °C to −26 °C.Long-term storage of food should beat –18 °C or lower.The freezer compartment can beused to store perishable food long-term. The low temperatures slowdown or stop the spoilage.The time between putting fresh food inthe freezer compartment and it freezingsolid depends on various factors:¡ Set temperature¡ Food (size and type)¡ Quantity and type of storage¡ Quantity and type of food already

stored

Freezing capacityThe maximum freezing capacity indic-ates the quantity of food that can befrozen right through to the centrewithin a specific period of time.Information on the maximum freezingcapacity can be found on the ratingplate. → "Appliance", Fig. 1 / 5 ,Page 14

Prerequisites for freezing capacity1. Approx. 24 hours before placing

fresh food in the appliance, switchon Super freezing. → "Switching on manual Superfreezing", Page 17

2. Fill the upper compartment withfood first. This is where the foodfreezes most quickly.

3. If the top compartment does nothave enough space, store the re-maining quantity in the compart-ment underneath.

Fully utilising the freezercompartment volumeLearn how to store the maximumamount of frozen food in the freezercompartment.1. "Remove all fittings." → Page 212. Store food directly on the shelves

and on the floor of the freezercompartment.

Tips for buying frozen foodFollow the tips when you are buyingfrozen food.¡ Check the packaging is not dam-

aged.¡ Check the best-before date.¡ The temperature in the supermar-

ket freezer must be –18 °C orlower.

¡ Do not interrupt the deep-freezechain. If possible, transport frozenfood in a cool bag and quicklyplace it in the freezer compart-ment.

Tips for storing food in thefreezer compartmentFollow the tips if you are storing foodin the freezer compartment.¡ To quickly and gently freeze larger

quantities of fresh food, place thisin the top frozen food container.

¡ Place the food over the whole areaof the compartments or the frozenfood containers.

¡ Do not bring food which is to befrozen into contact with frozenfood.If necessary, redistribute frozenfood in the freezer compartment.

¡ To ensure that the air can circulatefreely in the appliance, push thefrozen food containers in as far asthey will go.

Freezing smaller amounts offood quicklyObserve the instructions when youwant to freeze a smaller amount offood quickly.1. Place the food in frozen food tray

that is attached to the rear of thelarge frozen food container or inthe flat frozen food containers,starting from the right-hand side.

2. Spread the food over a wide areain the freezer compartment.

Tips for freezing fresh foodFollow the tips when you freeze freshfood.¡ Freeze fresh and undamaged food

only.¡ Cooked food is more suitable than

food that can be eaten raw.¡ In order to retain the nutritional

value, flavour and colour, youshould prepare certain food forfreezing.– Vegetables: Wash, chop up,

blanch.– Fruit: Wash, pit and perhaps

peel, possibly add sugar orascorbic acid solution.

crème fraîche and mayonnaise

Packing frozen foodIf you select suitable packaging ma-terial and the correct type of pack-aging, you can determine the productquality and prevent freezer burn.1. Place the food in the packaging.

Suitable packaging:– Plastic film made of polyethyl-

ene– Tubular film made of polyethyl-

ene– Freezer bags made from poly-

ethylene– Freezer containersUnsuitable packaging:– Wrapping paper– Greaseproof paper– Cellophane– Aluminium foil– Rubbish bags and used shop-

ping bags2. Squeeze out the air.3. Pack food airtight to prevent it

from losing flavour and drying out.Suitable seals:– Rubber bands– Plastic clips– Cold-resistant adhesive tape

4. Label the packaging with the con-tents and the date of freezing.
