1922

Born in Taichung County in 1922, Mr. Chang was commissioned to build a statue of Koxinga (Cheng Cheng-kung) at Tieh-chan Mountain Park in Dajia, Taichung County. He joined the 15th Provincial Art Exhibition and served as a board member for the Central Taiwan Art Association. In addition, his artwork Hsiao-mi was collected by the Department of Education o f t h e f o r m e r Ta i wa n P r ov i n c i a l Government.

Mr. Chen has been selected and won the Award of Merit in the Provincial Art Exhibition for many times. He has also won the Award of Merit, Silver Medal and Bronze Medal in Tai-yang Art Exhibition. He has won the Award of Merit and the Third Prize in the Central Taiwan Art Exhibition. He has served as a juror for Tai-yang Art Exhibition, Central Taiwan Art Exhibition and Huang-hsi Art Exhibition. Currently, he is a board member of Greater Taichung Art Association, Central Taiwan Art Association, Taichung City Art Association and the Taiwanese Society of Sculpting. He has held a solo exhibition of sculpture and oil painting, with catalogues published.

Ms. Hwang held a solo exhibition in Taichung City Cultural Affairs Bureau in 1997 and another one in the Fan-shi Art Gallery in 1998. She has won 1997 Top 10 Excellent Creation of Pottery Award, awarded by Handicraft Research and Training Institute (renamed as National Taiwan Crafts Research institute) and 1998 Third Prize in the sculpture category in Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition. Currently she is a teacher of sculpture for a career-training program in Taichung Prison.

Ms. Han holds a BA in Fine Arts from National Taiwan Normal University, and she conducted further post-graduate studies. She held a solo exhibition “Performing in the Imaginary Structure of Light” in 2001. In the next year, she won the Second Prize in the 56th Provincial Art Exhibition (sculpture category).

5 6 Mr. Hwang was the president of Taichung City Sculpture Society. He has won the Chung-Sheng Literature and Art Award. He also has been a counselor for the 1st to the 4th Grand Exhibition of Outdoor Sculpture, and for the public art audition committee in Taichung City Government. He has served as a juror for Da Dun Fine Arts Exhibition.

Mr. Tseng won the First Prize in the Provincial Art Exhibition in 1978. He held his fi rst solo exhibition at Taichung City Cultural Affairs Bureau in 1991. He held a joint exhibition of installation art in 1998 with artist and national legislator Lee Ming-hsien. In 2006, at the same venue again, he held a solo exhibition of sculpture “Beautiful. Lovely. Concerned.”

23Mr. Yu has won awards in the Provincial Art Exhibition and earned the permanent qualification to the exhibition. He also won the 23rd Chung-Sheng Literature and Art Award. He was the 7th president of Taichung City Sculpture Society and the 4th president of the Permanent Qualifi cation Artists Association.
