ATTENTION: GOLDEN YOUTH TRIP October 27, Thursday Lunch at Jay’s Café in Needville and Tour of The George Ranch Parishioners 50 years and older. Join us on Thursday, October 27, as the Golden Youth Club of St. Ambrose will be taking a bus trip to visit The George Ranch. We will leave St. Ambrose at 9:45 am. We will start with an early lunch at Jay’s Café in Needville. This Café specializes in fresh homemade American Food. The highlight is their homemade cakes and pies. Lunch will be dutch treat and there will be an included 18% gratuity to cover serving our group. Following lunch we will visit The George Ranch, a 20,000 acre working ranch featuring historic homes, costumed interpreters and livestock. We will have a docent to accompany us and move between the four historic homesteads on a tram. We should be back in Houston about 6:00 pm. The tour is limited to persons 50 years or older and bus seating. The total cost for admissions will be $12 per person, plus your dutch treat lunch. samaritano Ésta era la situación en tiempos de Jesús, judío de

nacimiento, cuando tiene lugar la escena del evangelio de hoy.

Los leprosos vivían fuera de las poblaciones; si habitaban

dentro, residían en barrios aislados del resto de la población, no

pudiendo entrar en contacto con ella, ni asistir a las ceremonias

religiosas. El libro del Levítico prescribe cómo habían de

comportarse éstos: “El que ha sido declarado enfermo de

afección cutánea andará harapiento y despeinado, con la barba

tapada y gritando: ¡Impuro, impuro! Mientras le dure la

afección seguirá impuro. Vivirá apartado y tendrá su morada

fuera del campamento” (Lv 13, 45-46). El concepto de lepra en

la Biblia dista mucho de la acepción que la medicina moderna

da a esta palabra, tratándose en muchos casos de enfermedades

curables de la piel.

Jesús, al ver a los diez leprosos, los envía a presentarse a

los sacerdotes, cuya función, entre otras, era en principio la de

diagnosticar ciertas enfermedades, que, por ser contagiosas,

exigían que el enfermo se retirara por un tiempo de la vida

pública. Una vez curados, debían presentarse al sacerdote para

que le diera una especie de certificado de curación que le

permitiese reinsertarse en la sociedad. Pero el relato evangélico

no termina con la curación de los diez leprosos, pues anota que

uno de ellos, precisamente un samaritano, se volvió a Jesús para

darle las gracias.

Por lo demás algo parecido había sucedido ya en el libro

de los Reyes, donde Naamán, general del ejército del rey sirio,

aquejado de una enfermedad de la piel, fue a ver al profeta de

Samaría, Eliseo, para que lo librase de su enfermedad. Eliseo,

en lugar de recibirlo, le dijo que fuese a bañarse siete veces en

el Jordán y quedaría limpio. Naamán, aunque contrariado por

no haber sido recibido por el profeta, hizo lo que éste le dijo y

quedó limpio. Cuando se vio limpio, a pesar de no pertenecer al

pueblo judío, se volvió al profeta para hacerle un regalo,

reconociendo al Dios de Israel, como verdadero Dios, capaz de

dar vida. Este Dios, además, se manifiesta en Jesús como el

siempre fiel a pesar de la infidelidad humana.

Lo sucedido al leproso del evangelio sentaría muy mal a

los judíos. De los diez leprosos, nueve eran judíos y uno

samaritano. Éste, cuando vio que estaba curado, se volvió

alabando a Dios a grandes gritos y se echó por tierra a los pies

de Jesús, dándole gracias. Estar a los pies de Jesús es la postura

del discípulo que aprende del maestro. Los otros nueve, que

eran judíos, demostraron con su comportamiento el olvido de

Dios que tenían y la falta de educación, que impide ser

agradecidos. Sólo un samaritano -oficialmente heterodoxo,

hereje, excomulgado, despreciado, marginado-, volvió a dar

gracias. Sólo éste pasó a formar parte de la comunidad de

seguidores de Jesús; los otros quedaron descalificados.

Tal vez, los cristianos, estemos demasiado convencidos

de que sólo «los de dentro», los de la comunidad, «los

católicos», o «los de la parroquia»... somos los que adoptamos

los mejores comportamientos. Hay gente mucho mejor fuera de

nuestros círculos, incluso en otras iglesias, y hasta en otras

religiones, incluso entre quienes dicen que «no creen». En el

evangelio de hoy es precisamente alguien venido de fuera,

despreciado por los de dentro, el único que sabe reconocer el

don recibido de Dios, dando una lección magistral a quienes no

Octubre Mes del Rosario

La fuerza del Rosario A lo largo de la historia se ha visto como el

rezo del Santo Rosario pone al demonio fuera de la ruta del hombre y

de la Iglesia. Llena de bendiciones a quienes lo rezan con devoción.

Nuestra Madre del Cielo ha seguido promoviéndolo, principalmente

en sus apariciones a los pastorcillos de Fátima.

El Rosario es una verdadera fuente de gracias. María es medianera de

las gracias de Dios. Dios ha querido que muchas gracias nos lleguen

por su conducto, ya que fue por ella que nos llegó la salvación.

Todo cristiano puede rezar el Rosario. Es una oración muy completa,

ya que requiere del empleo simultáneo de tres potencias de la persona:

física, vocal y espiritual. Las cuentas favorecen la concentración de la

mente.

Rezar el Rosario es como llevar diez flores a María en cada misterio.

Es una manera de repetirle muchas veces lo mucho que la queremos.

El amor y la piedad no se cansan nunca de repetir con frecuencia las

mismas palabras, porque siempre contienen algo nuevo. Si lo rezamos

todos los días, la Virgen nos llenará de gracias y nos ayudará a llegar

al Cielo. María intercede por nosotros sus hijos y no nos deja de

premiar con su ayuda. Al rezarlo, recordamos con la mente y el

corazón los misterios de la vida de Jesús y los misterios de la conducta

admirable de María: los gozosos, los dolorosos, los luminosos y los

gloriosos. Nos metemos en las escenas evangélicas: Belén, Nazaret,

Jerusalén, el huerto de los Olivos, el Calvario, María al pie de la cruz,

Cristo resucitado, el Cielo, todo esto pasa por nuestra mente mientras

nuestros labios oran.
