    Welcome and Announcements Pastor Elbert McGowan, Jr.

    * Call to Worship Psalm 34:1-9; 15-22 Mr. Fee Kennedy, Intern

    Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together! I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! Oh, fear the

    Lord are toward the righteous and his ears toward their cry. The face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth. When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenheart-ed and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken. Affliction will slay the wicked, and those who hate the righteous will be condemned. The Lord redeems the life of his servants; none of those who take refuge in him will be

    Sermon Title

    * Hymn of Faith

    Come Thou Fount of every blessing Tune my heart to sing Thy grace; Streams of mercy, never ceasing, Call for songs of loudest praise Teach me some melodious sonnet, Sung by flaming tongues above. Praise the mount! I'm fixed upon it, Mount of God's unchanging love.

    Here I raise my Ebenezer; Hither by Thy help I'm come; And I hope, by Thy good pleasure, Safely to arrive at home.

    Jesus sought me when a stranger, Wandering from the fold of God; He, to rescue me from danger, Interposed His precious blood.

    Oh, that day when freed from sinning I shall see Thy lovely face Clothed then in the blood washed linen How I'll sing Thy wondrous grace

    Come, my Lord, no longer tarry Take my ransomed soul away Send Thine angels now to carry Me to realms of endless day

    Oh, to grace how great a debtor Daily I'm constrained to be Let that goodness like a fetter Bind my wandering heart to Thee

    Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it Prone to leave the God I love Here's my heart, oh, take and seal it Seal it for Thy courts above Here's my heart, oh, take and seal it Seal it for Thy courts above

    journer. The Hebrew word for sojourn is often used to describe someone who has fallen on hard times

    able in scripture, which includes the fatherless, the widow, and the poor. (Zechariah 7:10) How does this shed light on how he ends up in this land?

    Word! His word is trustworthy, true, right, life-

    land when compared to the right-side up city of God. Have you ever felt as if we are living in the land of lies, division, and war? When? How often? What does the psalmist do in our passage? He just prays. Nothing else. What role does praying play in giving him comfort, hope, and peace in the land where he is being mistreated? What does this teach us about prayer? What assurance do we have that God hears and answers?

    Can you recall a moment when communing with God, in prayer, changed you or the people afflicting you? What would it look like to practice this more this week? God answered his prayer for deliverance! Look at verses 3 and 4. The psalmist says they are for war (v.7). It appears that God himself will go to war with them at some point in the future! Peter tells us that God can both preserve the righteous and hold the unrighteous under judgement until the ap-pointed time. How can this help us to be a patient, thankful and loving people here and now?

(Meet an Usher at Entrance 1 to be es-corted to the FH.) Do I have to register in advance? You don't; we can take "walk-ins" if seats are still available. Once full, however, overflow will be directed to the Fellowship Hall. What about seat numbers? In rows of 10, seat numbers are important because you're sharing a row. Seats 1-4 are on the Lefthand side; seats 8-10 are on the Righthand side (facing the pulpit).
