Prayers To Be Said Before Each Rosary

(Saint Philip Neri) – “Entire conformity and resignation to the divine will is truly a road on which wecannot go wrong, and it is the only road that leads us to taste and enjoy that peace which sensual andearthly men know nothing of.” As we pray this rosary, let us contemplate the difference between theearthly path that is heavily travelled, versus the narrow path that is less travelled. Let us pray thatevery step we take, in all that we think, say and do, will lead us on the path to our heavenly home.

The Annunciation

(Saint Maximilian Kolbe) – “The love of Mary Immaculate is the most perfect love with which acreature can ever love God. In union with her heart, let us try to love the Sacred Heart of Jesus moreand more.” Let us pray that God’s announcement to us, on how to walk a holy life, may always be inour mind, and lived out with the same answer that Mary gave, as she said, “Let it be done to meaccording to your word.”

Ps 32:8 – I will instruct you and show you the way you should walk, give you counsel and watch overyou.


Ps 143:10 – Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. May your kind spirit guide me on groundthat is level.


Ps 86:11 – Teach me, Lord, Your way, that I may walk in your truth, single-hearted and revering yourname.


Ps 119:9-10 – How can the young walk without fault? Only by keeping your words. With all my heartI seek you; do not let me stray from your commands.

Second Joyful Mystery

The Visitation

(Saint John Vianney) – “Every time we are seen in public, every time we go to the city or elsewhere,we preach a sermon.” As we contemplate the walk of faith that Mary took in visiting Elizabeth, let uspray for an increase in holiness in our lives, that we may walk a holy life for the glory and honor ofGod, and for the salvation of our souls.

Eccl 4:17 – Guard your step when you go to the house of God. Let your approach be obedience.


Sir 32:20 – Go not on a way that is set with snares, and let not the same thing trip you twice.


Sir 34:11 – I have seen much in my travels, learned more than ever I could say.


Ps 37:23-24 – Those whose steps are guided by the Lord; whose way God approves, may stumble,but they will never fall, for the Lord holds their hand.

Third Joyful Mystery

The Birth of Christ

(Ven. Charles DeFoucauld) – “The moment I realized that God existed, I knew I could not dootherwise than to live for Him alone.” Let us pray for an increase in childlike humbleness.

Our Father…

Mt 18:3-4 – Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter thekingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.


Mk 10:14 – “Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God belongs tosuch as these.”


1 Cor 14:20 – Stop being childish in your thinking. In respect to evil be like infants, but in yourthinking be mature.


1 Jn 3:18 – Children, let us love not in word or speech, but in deed and truth.


Prv 7:2 – Keep my commands and live my teachings as the apple of your eye.

Fourth Joyful Mystery

The Presentation

(Saint John Vianney) – “When I am about to talk to anyone, I picture to myself Jesus Christ and howgracious and friendly he was to everyone.” Let us pray to be a reflection of Christ’s love in all ourinteractions, at work, at home, with friends, with strangers, and with those we have a difficult timewith.

Ps 139:23-24 – Probe me, God, know my heart; try me, know my concerns. See if my way is crooked,then lead me in the ancient paths.

Hail Mary … (2x times)

Ps 101:6 – I look to the faithful of the land; they alone can be my companions.


Ps 78:72 – He shepherded them with a pure heart; with skilled hands he guided them.


Ps 25:5 – Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my savior.


Ps 1:6 – The Lord watches over the way of the just, but the way of the wicked leads to ruin.

Fifth Joyful Mystery

Finding Jesus in the Temple

(Saint Thomas Aquinas) – “If, then, you are looking for the way by which you should go, take Christ,because he himself is the way.” Sometimes it feels difficult to find Christ’s presence in this world.Let us pray that God’s laws, morals and statutes may be written on the hearts and lived out by allmankind.

Our Father…

Ps 25:8 – Good and upright is the Lord, who shows sinners the way.

Hail Mary … (2x times)

Ps 37:34 – Wait eagerly for the Lord, and keep to the way.


Ps 119:2-3 – Happy are those who observe God’s decrees, who seek the Lord with all their heart.They do no wrong; they walk in God’s ways.


Ps 119:35 – Lead me in the path of your commands, for that is my delight.


Ps 119:14-15 – I find joy in the way of your decrees, more than in all riches. I will ponder yourprecepts and consider your paths.

First Luminous Mystery

Baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan

(Saint Thomas Aquinas) – “Just as a man cannot live in the flesh unless he is born in the flesh, evenso a man cannot have the spiritual life of grace unless he is born again spiritually.” As wecontemplate the baptism of Jesus, let us think about the meaning of our own baptism. Let us pray tobear good fruit, and to uproot the vices that are in our lives, of bad habits, addictions, and allimmorality.

Prv 14:14 – The good man reaps the fruit of his paths.


Lk 3:9 – Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that does not produce goodfruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.


Eph 4:31 – All bitterness, fury, anger, shouting, and reviling must be removed from you, along withall malice.


Phil 2:14-15 – Do everything without grumbling or questioning, that you may be blameless andinnocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, amongwhom you shine like lights in the world.


Ps 119:80 – May I be wholehearted towards your laws, that I may not be put to shame.

Second Luminous Mystery

The Wedding Feast at Cana

(Saint Anthony Mary Claret) – “Our Lord has created persons for all states in life, and in all of them

we see people who have achieved sanctity by fulfilling their obligations well.” Let us pray for thevocation of marriage, which prepares a man and a woman to receive new life as a gift because theyhave first chosen to make themselves irreplaceable to each other.

Jn 2:5 – His mother said to the servers, “Do whatever He tells you.”


Ps 25:10 – All the paths of the Lord are faithful love towards those who honor the covenant demands.


Eph 5:33 – Each one of you should love his wife as himself and the wife should respect her husband.


Ps 128:1,3 – Happy are all who fear the Lord, who walk in the ways of God. Like a fruitful vine yourwife within your home, like olive plants your children around your table.


Sir 30:1 – He who loves his son chastises him often, that he may be his joy when he grows up.

Third Luminous Mystery

Proclamation of the Kingdom of Heaven, and the Call to Conversion

(Saint Thomas More) – “Just as for the farmer, the harvest is the period of greatest effort, gathering itsfruit into the barns and stockyards. So also for the soul there is the laborious harvest during which itcan collect as many favors as possible, but there are moments bristling with suffering and crosses; thegrowing season of the spiritual life.” Let us pray to grow in patience, perseverance and humility aswe go through growing seasons; and that we may be blessed with God’s abundant gifts during theharvest season.

2 Tim 4:1-2 – Proclaim the word; be persistent whether it is convenient or inconvenient; convince,reprimand, encourage through all patience and teaching.


Eph 4:1-3 – Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received, with all humility, and gentleness,with patience, bearing with one another through love, striving to preserve the unity of the spiritthrough the bond of peace:


Jas 5:7 – Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits forthe precious fruit of the earth, being patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains.


Mk 4:16-17 – The ones sown on rocky ground hear the word, receive it at once with joy. But theyhave no root; they last only for a time. Then when tribulation or persecution comes because of theword, they quickly fall away.


Ps 94:12 – Happy those whom you guide, Lord, whom you teach by your instruction.

Fourth Luminous Mystery

The Transfiguration

(Saint Francis of Assisi) – “Most high, glorious God, enlighten the darkness of my heart and give me,Lord, a correct faith, certain hope, a perfect charity, and good sense and knowledge, so that I maycarry out your holy and true command.” Let us pray that we may be able to transform the dark areas ofour lives into virtues of God’s light.

Ps 43:3 – Send your light and fidelity, that they may be my guide and bring me to your holy mountain,to the place of your dwelling.


Prv 8:1-2 – Does not Wisdom call, and Understanding raise her voice? On the top of the heights alongthe road, at the crossroads she takes her stand.


Ps 119:105 – Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path.


Ps 37:5-6 – Commit your way to the Lord; trust that God will act and make your integrity shine likethe dawn.


Ps 89:16 – Happy the people who know you, Lord, who walk in the radiance of your face.

Fifth Luminous Mystery

Institution of Eucharist at the Last Supper

(Saint Margaret of Cortona) – “This morning my soul is greater than the world since it possessesYou, Lord, in the Eucharist, Whom heaven and earth do not contain.” Oh Jesus, we pray that YourHoly Eucharist may sanctify us and lead us on the path to eternal life with You. May we alwaysreceive You worthily, without the stain of sin.

Jn 6:27 – “Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life, which theSon of Man will give you. For on him the Father, God, has set his seal.”


Tit 1:7-8 – Be blameless, not arrogant, not irritable, not a drunkard, not aggressive, not greedy forsordid gain, but hospitable, a lover of goodness, temperate, just, holy, and self-controlled.


1 Cor 11:28-29 – A person should examine himself. For anyone who eats and drinks withoutdiscerning the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself.


Prv 9:4-5 – Let whoever is simple turn in here; to him who lacks understanding, I say, “Come, eat of

my food, and drink of the wine I have mixed!”


Acts 2:42 – They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to thebreaking of the bread and to the prayers.

First Sorrowful Mystery

Agony in the Garden

(Saint John of Avila) – “Christ tells us that if we want to join him, we shall travel the way he took. Itis surely not right that the Son of God should go his way on the path of shame while the sons of menwalk the way of worldliness.” Let us pray for the gift to see our sins the way God sees them, and thatthrough this grace, may we abandon the life of worldliness, and live a life of holiness.

Mk 13:36-37 – May he not come suddenly and find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to all:“Watch!”


Ps 1:1 – Happy are those who do not follow the counsel of the wicked, nor go the way of the sinner,nor sit in the company with scoffers.


Ps 107:4-7 – Some had lost their way in a barren desert; found no path towards a city to live in. Intheir distress they cried to the Lord, who rescued them in their peril, guided them by a direct path.


2 Pet 2:15 – Abandoning the straight road, they have gone astray, following the road of Balaam, wholoved wrongdoing.


Prv 1:10,15,16 – My son, should sinners entice you, walk not in the way with them. Hold back yourfoot from their path! For their feet run to evil.

Second Sorrowful Mystery

Scourging at the Pillar

(Saint John of Avila) – “I pray God may open your eyes and let you see what hidden treasures he

bestows on those who endure trials from which the world thinks only to flee.” As we contemplateChrist’s scourging, let us pray to be a reflection of Him in all our sufferings that are caused by others,by being charitable in all our actions, in all our talk, and in all our interactions. And may we never bethe cause of scourging to others.

Sir 28:17 – A blow from a whip raises a welt, but a blow from the tongue smashes bones.


Ps 119:1 – Happy are those whose way is blameless, who walk by the teaching of the Lord.


2 Cor 7:1 – Let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of flesh and spirit, making holinessperfect in the fear of God.


Heb 12:1 – Let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us.


Ps 25:21 – Let honesty and virtue preserve me; I wait for you, O Lord.

Third Sorrowful Mystery

Crowning of Thorns

(Saint Alphonsus Ligouri) – “Contradictions, sickness, scruples, spiritual aridity, and all the innerand outward torments are the chisel with which God carves his statues for paradise.” Let us pray forall those who are in physical, mental or spiritual pain. May they walk closely with the Lord in theirsuffering, never complaining, and never turning their back on God.

Our Father…

Ps 23:4 – Even when I walk through a dark valley, I fear no harm for you are at my side; your rod andstaff give me courage.


Mt 24:13 – The one who perseveres to the end will be saved.


Lk 13:24 – “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but willnot be strong enough.”


1 Cor 4:12-13 – When ridiculed, we bless; when persecuted, we endure; when slandered, werespond gently.


2 Cor 12:8-9 – I begged the Lord that [this thorn] might leave me, but he said to me, “My grace issufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.”

Fourth Sorrowful Mystery

Carrying of the Cross

(Saint John Bosco) – “When many different temptations and difficulties overwhelm our soul, when itfeels abandoned and left in spiritual darkness, without any consolation; yet in spite of this we quietlyand joyfully accept and carry that cross for a long time – this is true perfection. The soul does notrealize to what heights it is rising and what great glory God is preparing for him in Heaven.” Let uspray that we may be able to overcome the sinful crosses in our lives that weigh us down, and that wemay focus our eyes on our eternal home, the end of the path.

Prv 2:20-21 – Walk in the way of good men, and keep to the paths of the just. For the upright willdwell in the land, the honest will remain in it.


Jas 1:12 – Blessed is the man who perseveres in temptation, for when he has been proved he willreceive the crown of life that he promised to those who love him.


Prv 4:25-26 – Let your eyes look straight ahead and your glance be directly forward. Survey the pathfor your feet, and let all your ways be sure.


Sir 8:15 – Travel not with a ruthless man, lest he weigh you down with calamity; for he will go hisown way, and through his folly you will perish with him.


Ps 77:20-21 – Though your footsteps were unseen, you led your people like a flock.

Fifth Sorrowful Mystery

The Crucifixion and Death

(Blessed Sebastian Valfre) – “A pain that goes without pity wins greater merit before God. Never sayto God: ‘Enough’, simply say, ‘I am ready!’” Let us nail to the cross, all our past hurts and pains thathold us down, that we may receive the gift of reconciliation with ourselves, with others, and withGod.

Mk 11:25 – When you stand to pray, forgive anyone against whom you have a grievance, so that yourheavenly Father may in turn forgive you of your transgressions.


Jas 2:9 – If you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors.


Heb 8:12 – I will forgive their evildoing and remember their sins no more.


Sir 28:1-2 – The vengeful will suffer the Lord’s vengeance. Forgive your neighbor’s injustice, thenwhen you pray, your own sins will be forgiven.


Rom 4:7-8 – Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven and whose sins are covered. Blessed isthe man whose sin the Lord does not record.

First Glorious Mystery

The Resurrection

(Saint John Vianney) – “Our home is Heaven. On earth we are like travelers staying at a hotel. Whenone is away, one is always thinking of going home.” Let us pray for the grace of final perseverance atthe hour of our death, for a happy death, that we may be accompanied by Mary, Joseph, our guardianangel, and the angels of the heavenly choir, as we pass from this life, to our heavenly home.

Jn 10:7,9 – “Amen, Amen, I say to you, I am the gate for the sheep. Whoever enters through me willbe saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture.”


Ps 77:14 – Your way, O god, is holy.


Ps 26:3 – Your love is before my eyes; I walk guided by your faithfulness.


Ps 73:24 – With your counsel you guide me, and at the end receive me with honor.


Rev 7:9,14 – I had a vision of a great multitude, which no one could count. They stood before thethrone and before the Lamb, wearing white robes. These are the ones who have survived the time ofgreat distress; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Second Glorious Mystery

The Ascension

(Saint Philip Neri) – “To be a disciple means to follow the Master. He ascended the hill of the crossand transformed it into the seat of glory, a holy place. Risen, he invites us to leave behind allworthless desires and seek him in holiness, that is, in love.” Through the intercession of Mary, let us

pray to abandon the ways of worldliness. Hear our prayers oh God, that we may ascend the path ofvirtuous living, being charitable to all those who You will bring into our path.

Jn 8:31-32 – “If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples, and you will know the truthand the truth will set you free.”


1 Thes 5:16-18 – Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks, for this isthe will of God for you in Christ Jesus.


Prv 5:21 – For each man’s ways are plain to the Lord’s sight; all their paths he surveys.


Ps 119:37 – Avert my eyes from what is worthless; by your way give me life.


Phil 4:13 – I have the strength for everything through him who empowers me.

Third Glorious Mystery

The Descent of the Holy Spirit

(Saint Augustine) – “God is more anxious to bestow His blessings on us than we are to receivethem.” Let us pray to come to know the Holy Spirit more intimately, that we may be consecrated toour Heavenly Father, through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Our Father…

Jn 16:13 – “The Spirit of truth will guide you to all truth.”


Gal 5:25-26 – If we live in the spirit, let us also follow the Spirit.


Acts 18:9-10 – “Do not be afraid. Go on speaking, and do not be silent, for I am with you.”


Ps 40:3 – The Lord drew me out of the pit of destruction, out of the mud of the swamp, set my feetupon rock, steadied my steps.


1 Cor 3:16 – Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells inyou?

Fourth Glorious Mystery

The Assumption of Mary

(Saint Maximilian Kolbe) – “Let us remember that Mary Immaculate will repay generously for eventhe smallest mark of honor paid to her.” Let us pray that Our Lady may be honored and loved by allmankind, for in doing so, she will take all of mankind to her Son. Let us pray to be guided by ourBlessed Mother on the narrow path of holiness and virtue.

2 Pet 3:14 – Therefore, beloved, be eager to be found without spot or blemish.


Rom 2:10 – There will be glory, honor, and peace for everyone who does good.


Mt 7:14 – How narrow the gate and constricted the road that leads to life. And those who find it arefew.


Wis 6:15 – He who for her sake keeps vigil shall quickly be free from care.


Wis 8:16 – Within my dwelling, I should take my repose beside her; For association with herinvolves no bitterness and living with her no grief, but rather joy and gladness.

Fifth Glorious Mystery

Crowning of Mary as Queen Mother

(Saint Maximilian Kolbe) – “What is essential is not to accomplish a great deal according to our ownlights, but to be in the hands of the Immaculate Virgin.” Let us pray to wear a crown of holiness in thislife, that it may lead us to a crown of eternal life with God.

Our Father…

1 Cor 9:25 – Every athlete exercises discipline in every way. They do it to win a perishable crown,but we an imperishable one.


Wis 8:7 – The fruit of her works are virtues; for she teaches moderation and prudence, justice andfortitude, and nothing in life is more useful for men than these.


2 Tim 4:8 – From now on the crown of righteousness awaits me, which the Lord, the just judge, willaward to me on that day, and not only to me, but to all who have longed for his appearance.


Wis 5:15-16 – The just live forever, and in the Lord is their recompense. Therefore shall they receivethe splendid crown.


Sir 6:31 – You will wear wisdom as your robe of glory, bear her as your splendid crown.

How to Say the Specific Prayers of the Rosary

SIGN OF THE CROSS:

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

APOSTLES CREED:

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son,our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under PontiusPilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose againfrom the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;from there he will come to judge the living and the dead… I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holyCatholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, andlife everlasting. Amen

OUR FATHER:

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earthas it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive thosewho trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

HAIL MARY:

Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is thefruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of ourdeath, Amen.

GLORY BE:

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, andever shall be, world without end. Amen.

OH MY JESUS:

O my Jesus, forgive us of our sins. Save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls into heaven,especially those in most need of thy mercy.
