Concept Script- “Spirit of Mumbai”

Opening Scene- A dummy mobile has been fixed on the road, as if lost by someone. Guys and

girls are divided into 2 groups of 3 each and stand 10 feet away on the two sides of the mobile

and are busy among them.

1st passerby- Uncle is walking down the road and notices the mobile. Looks here and there, but

notices no one is looking at him. Quietly tries to pick it up but can’t. One guy from the back of

uncle hits him with a ball and they all start laughing at him. Embarrassed, he shouts- ‘Naughty

idiots, making fun of me, goes away mumbling’.

2nd passerby- A lady comes walking and notices it too. Tries to quickly pick it up and walk away.

One of them hits her too with the ball and start laughing. She screams and starts shouting at

them and walks away in disgust.

3rd passerby- Now a very good looking young girl approaches and notices the mobile. Looks

here and there and smartly drops her hanky on the mobile. Just as she unsuccessfully tries to

pick up the mobile, two rowdies suddenly walk up-to her. One of them says- ‘Kyun janeman

mobile chahiye. Aaona hum tumhe bilkul naya mobile denge’. One of them touches her and

they start harassing her. All the pranksters are shocked, but one of them moves forward to help

her. The other two stop him and say- ‘Leave it don’t get involved with the hooligans, they can

be dangerous”. One of the rowdies takes out a knife and threatens everyone and says- ‘leave

immediately or face the dire consequences’. All of them leave quietly leaving the young girl at

the mercy of the rowdies.

Next Scene- A TV news reporter notices the young girl crying on the pavement and starts a live

broadcast, questioning the girl insensitively- ‘What happened’? Instead of helping her. A young

toddler is watching the TV at home with a nipple in his mouth. Seeing the girl crying for a few

minutes, he suddenly gets up and walks fumbling on the way up-to the screen and takes out his

nipple and tries to put it in the crying girl’s mouth.

Next Scene- Then the guys who had vanished, appear with a placard in their hands- “This is the

spirit of Mumbai”. And then one by one they shout-

P 1- Just like this toddler we all have the spirit of mankind.

P2- That is the basic instinct to help the needy.

P3- Irrespective of caste, creed, sex, age, colour, nationality or religion.

P4- But due to various reasons we simply choose to ignore or avoid it so that we don’t get in

any trouble.

P5- Don’t you remember when there was huge water-logging due to heavy rains and people

could not go back home from work.

P6- The locals came out and served hot tea and biscuits to strangers.

P7- We recently had the Mumbai marathon which collected 80 crores for various charitable

organizations.

P8- Where people from all walks of life ran and donated generously.

P9- Don’t you remember during 26/11 Hotel staff risked their life to save their guests.

Then they all shout in chorus-

Enough is enough, our parents and grand-parents have tolerated more than required.

Not anymore. (Pause for half a minute)

We warn the corrupt politicians to mend their ways.

Otherwise we will mend them.

We warn the Babus to stop malpractrices.

Otherwise we will stop their practices.

We warn the Goondas to stop atrocities.

Otherwise we will discipline them.

We warn the eve-teasers and rapists, beware.

Otherwise we will not spare them.

We are the spirit of Mumbai.

We are the spirit of the World.

We are the spirit of Mankind.

Beware. Savdhan. We are watching you.

We are the spirit of Mumbai.

Very well alive and kicking.
