Scrabble Tournament rules• Mode of play

– Each team consists of 3 players and 1 reserve– Each round needs 3 players– The team can arrange which 3 players (out of

the 4 team members) to play in each round – The tournament is divided into two parts:

semi-final and grand-final.

Scrabble Tournament RulesMode of semi-final:• Each team shall play a total of 3 games.• 4 teams will form a group• Grouping: By random draw under seed system• Some schools are selected as ‘seeded team’

according to their ranking in the tournament last year.

• Each group consists of 1 seeded team and 3 non-seeded teams.

• The teams with highest score after 3 rounds will enter the grand final.

Instruction

• Before starting the game:–Ensure the board is facing the stage (neither facing any player)

–Draw a tile from the bag to decide the who will start the game first

Instruction• Procedure of a finishing a move:

– Place your tiles on the board– Call out the point that you’ve scored in this

move– Press the chess clock to start the opponent

scored – Draw tiles to fill the rack

– You may challenge your opponent word at the end of his/her move

– If you are puzzling whether you will challenge, please advice your opponent not to draw tiles first

– If you decide to challenge, then you have to fill in the challenge slip

Challenge• Result of a challenge:

– If the words are ACCEPTED:• The one being challenged will got 3 extra point

for each word he plays in that particular move

– If the words are UNACCEPTED:• The one being challenged will need to remove

his tiles• NO bonus point will be added to challenger• The challenger will start his move

– (NOT the one being challenged)

Penalties

• Penalties will be given in the following cases:–Cheating:

•Exchanging tiles with partners•Getting hints from your partners•Drawing tiles not over the eye level

–Influencing opponent

Penalties

• Table Judges will give warning to players–If a player has been warned for the twice, 5 point would be deducted from his total score from the third warning onwards

Instruction

• End of the game:–Don’t remove any tiles before the score sheet is signed by both players

–Please fill in all the following as instructed before submit your score sheets and score card

Scrabble Tournament rules• Scoring system

– In each round, the winning team (3-0 or 2-1) will get 2 points ; the losing team (0-3 or 1-2) gets 1 point

– The team which concedes a walkover will not get any points whilst the opposing team will get 2 points with a +50 spread for each of the 3 team players (excluding reserve)

– In the event of a tie between 2 players in each game, each player will get 0.5 point.

– The point score will be computed at the end of the tournament and the winning team will be sorted out in this order as shown:

a) Has won the highest number of points;b) Has won the highest number of games;c) Has chalked up the bigger spread.

Scrabble Tournament rules• Time

– Time for each round: 1 hour– I.e. Each player is given 30 minutes to complete

all plays.– There is no time limit on the time taken per move.– No overtime play is allowed.
