Summer Career Placement Program MÉTIS NATION OF ONTARIO CRITERIA Students must be: Métis Between the ages of 15-30 In school and returning to an educational institution in the Fall of 2017 SCP deadline is May 5, 2017 and all applications must be submitted to the appropriate regional office The maximum length for post-secondary SCP is 16 weeks The maximum length for secondary SCP is 8 weeks Employers must agree to employ students for a minimum of 20 hours per week, up to and a maximum of 37.5 hours per week Start dates can be negotiated in special circumstances, however all placements must end by the August 25, 2017 Employers must have payroll capability to pay student wages Contracts must be signed by the sponsor/employer prior to beginning Please ensure applications are forwarded to the Métis Nation of Ontario field office in your area (for local information call 1-800-263-4889 or visit our website www.metisnation.org). The MNO will not be responsible for misdirected applications. APPROVALS Métis Nation of Ontario Regional Advisory Committees (RAC) will review applications based on eligibility criteria, priority areas and budget limitations All successful applicants will be notified in writing of their approval PRIORITY AREAS Priority will be given to placements that: Are cost shared by SCP employers Are career-related or within student’s vocational aspirations Are within Métis-owned businesses Address the needs of Métis youth with disabilities Have community support or demonstrate strong initiative from student Involve the Aboriginal community or Aboriginal organizations ELIGIBLE COSTS Wages based on a full-time work week MERC is calculated at 14.34% MNO reserves the right to negotiate costs with employers to maximize the number of placements available to Métis youth Only costs listed above will be covered MNO SUMMER CAREER PLACEMENT (SCP) is a wage subsidy program designed for Métis students seeking summer employment opportunities. CONDITIONS OF FUNDING FOR EMPLOYERS• Employers must complete and submit all necessary

documentation to the MNO Regional Employment and Training Coordinator (RETC)

• If funding is approved employers will be expected to provide documentation to support the hours worked and MERC paid on behalf of students

• Non-profit, public and private employers will be reimbursed based on actual expenditures (unless other payment schedules have been requested and agreed upon by both parties)

• Employers will receive an SCP contract that must be signed after careful review. Two copies of the contract will be sent to the employer; one copy is provided for the employers’ records and the other is to be returned to the RETC office

• Non-profit employers are eligible for a 50% advance of the total contract amount. An advance will not be issued until the SCP contract is signed by both the employer and MNO
