In my humble opinion I think
it’s never too late to have
a dream,
embrace it, and bring it to life.
A lot
of dreams have died because of self-
doubt, because of the belief “
it is not
in me.” If you have ever had a
n
inspiring vision flash into you
r mind, it
is because “it is in you.” Do
n’t let the
dream go; let the self-doubt go. Yo
ur
weapon of choice is action. I
am a firm
believer in persistance, if you
stay on
task, it is impossible to fail. If you
keep moving forward, no matter how
small the steps, you will reach
your
destination. Go For It and yo
u will see
What Dreams May Come!

INTERIORS>>>
This is what our bedroom looked like when we moved in.
Here’s what it looked like recently, when we were planning out the headboard sitch.
Put cleats on the back of the board. We marked where the buttons would go and pre-drilled holes.
We bought 2” thick foam and two yards of quilt batting from Daytona Trimming.
We pulled the batting over the foam and staple-gunned it on.
After the quilt batting was secured, we stapled on a piece of heavy-starched cotton lining.
We used four pieces of upholstery thread, pulled the buttons as tight as we could and secured them to the back of the board by tying them around finish nails.
Burlap time!
Frisson is a husband and wife team offering a multi-disciplinary, collaborative approach to interior and graphic design projects.
Killy Scheer and Oliver Paradis met while living in San Francisco, CA in 2002. With hum-drum jobs in industries that weren’t the right fit, they enrolled in various art and design courses to keep their creative chops up and quickly realized that career changes were in order. Shortly thereafter, they moved to New York to attend Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. Killy graduated with an MS in Interior Design and Oliver earned a BFA in Communications Design with a minor in Art History.
In 2008, while working for design firms in their respective fields, the pair founded Frisson in order to take on small side projects.
The business has slowly grown into a full-time endeavor. Gravitating toward projects for small businesses and individuals to keep the creative process intimate and personal, the pair strives to deliver timeless yet striking designs for those with smaller budgets. Their fine arts-based approach and shared creative vision ensures each project is completed with comprehensive rigor and inventiveness.
In 2009 they started a blog, The Studiolo, which is primarily devoted to design, but occasionally goes off track with personal observations and musings about the world around them. www.frisson-design.com

As a pilot, Alan Chan gained a different photographic perspective. Alan combines his panoramic perceptions of exotic natural landscapes with his deft eye for photography.
He perpetually explores alternative angles and finds glimmers of beauty in common spaces that seem to escape attention from the vigor of everyday life.
His passion was further refined through his extensive travels across the Orient and the Americas. In 2009, Alan participated in theIlluminate Yellowtown photo contest, which he won the 'Best in Show' award and was nominated for 'Best Exposure' award.
Today, Alan spends his time in Vancouver, British Columbia where he continues freelance work.

A Beautiful Business | This entrepreneurial pair were inspired by celebs, and now they sell their specialty makeup to them. By Nichole L. Torres
Company:Duwop
Company description: Manufacturer of specialty
makeup and body creams
Founders: Christina Bartolucci, 44, and Laura
DeLuisa, 42
Location: Glendale, California
Behind the Scenes: Cristina Bartolucci and Laura DeLuisa
met and found their inspiration in the trenches, doing
makeup and hair on movie sets. “An actress would come in
[with puffy eyes] in the morning and have to look perfect at
7 a.m.,” says Bartolucci. “We would pack [her] eyes with
gauze soaked with ice water, which was uncomfortable and
messy.” To solve the problem, the pair invented their first
product, I gels, in 1999. Today, signature products like Lip
Venom lip gloss and Revolotion body makeup are popular
with fans including Jennifer Aniston and Kelly Ripa.
Loose Lips: “When [we] first started the company, I was
doing graphics in a copy store, and this kid came up to me
and said, ‘DuWop? What a great name. Is it registered?’ I
said, ‘I don’t think so,’ and he said, ‘Let me register it for
you,’” says Bartolucci. “In front of me, in the store, he went
online and registered, and stole our name. It took us three
years and a lawsuit to get it back. So now, no matter how
excited I am, I take a deep breath and think ‘Is silence the
best response here?’”
Rein It In: After distribution of DuWop products exploded
thanks to a zealous sales rep, Bartolucci and DeLuisa
realized they didn’t want to be a mass-market brand. They
scaled back distribution and now offer their products in
specialty boutiques, such as Henri Bendel and Fred Segal,
as well as upscale retailers Nordstrom and Sephora. The
pair hopes the new strategy, combined with a full line of
products now in development, will take DuWop to more
than $10 million in sales in the next three years.

Vital Stats: Jen Bilik, 41, of Knock Knock
Company: Gift and stationery company in Venice, California
Projected Sales: $3.5 million
Latecomer: Former book editor Bilik was a chronic procrastinator. The idea for her business actually came while putting off the creation of her illustrated memoir. After designing and sending belated holiday cards in January, her friends encouraged her to sell the cards. “Humor is a great way to acknowledge and excuse your own shortcomings,” Bilik says. “January” is now her bestselling holiday card.
Homegrown: With the profits from a real estate sale, Bilik launched Knock Knock in 2002 with 13 products. Buyers were hesitant until they saw prototypes, so a sales company came onboard to help her gain entry into specialty gift stores. Despite difficulties keeping up with orders, sales shot to $650,000 the first year. “The key is resiliency,” says Bilik, who learned quickly from her mistakes.
Culture Clash: Knock Knock acknowledges the oft-unspoken hilarity of life, whether it’s in office politics or relationships. One card, for example, tells the newly single: “Time wounds all heels,” and “You’re better off.” “It’s observational humor,” Bilik says. “Most greeting card companies are so idealized. They’re not funny about the actual occasion.” Knock Knock products, including a dating kit and humorous flashcards, are sold on www.knockknock.biz, in more than 3,000 stores nationwide, and in Canada and the UK. Bilik plans to create additional brands, such as a line of contemporary office products called No. 2, and rework the company’s signature products for mass merchants. Says Bilik, “I’ve inadvertently tapped into a psychology zeitgeist.”

What began as a small hobby for New York-based designer, Sandee Shin, exploded into an entire line of avant-garde jewelry. Armor Jewelry is an arsenal of high fashion jewelry that dances between understated minimalism and the highly conceptual edge of fashion.
Launching in 2009, each piece of the collection is a unique sculpture for the body that reflects the lifestyles of those who aren’t afraid to push boundaries. Armor Jewelry is a hybrid of soft, subtle draping and a mix of sexy chain materials. Each metal chain texture is carefully chosen to reflect the concept and design of the final product.
Materials are then deconstructed and reconfigured to create silhouettes that effortlessly add edge and elegance to any outfit. Each piece can hold it’s own with a simple white tee or be a crowning piece over a gown.
Shin’s background in performance art and design influences her choices in texture and draping. Every jewelry design is a personal work of art for Shin, and every piece is made-to-order and hand crafted with attention to every detail.
