Building Story of the Scottish Rite Cathedral-

Planning began in 1915 but was delayed by World War I. In 1925 Local Architect, George Schreiber was selected for the project over seven other firms.

Schreiber, an emigrant from Germany, had returned to his Homeland to study Gothic Architecture, then was two years planning the building.

Ground was broken on May 7, 1927 and the final stone laid February 26, 1929. Dedicated on September 26, 1929 the total cost was nearly $2,500,000 which was liquidated May 1, 1951.

The most beautiful and largest for the sole use of freemasons. This is appropriate as this is THE largest Valley in the World.

Recent improvements in the building include Handicap compliance as well as an elevator to access to all levels. For many years the building planning was in the hands of H. Roll McLaughlin, FAIA and Harry Hunter, FAIA.
