Summary

Topic WhatshappeningRedesignofuserinterface ImprovedreadabilityofScopusmostusedpages

withanemphasisonthemostusedfeatures.The

redesignaimstomakethecoresearchworkflow

moreefficientandstreamlined.

Helpfunctionalityupdate MigrationofScopusHelpfilestoamoreintuitive

andinteractivesystemcalledSupportHub.

RedesignoftheScopusUserInterfaceWiththisrelease,wehaveenhancedthecoresearchexperiencebyupdatingtheScopususerinterface.

Theprimarygoalofthisredesignistostreamlinethenumberofstepsaresearcherneedstotaketo

accomplishthemostcommontasks.

Mainimprovements: TheScopusinterfaceismoreactiondriven.Itemsoriconswillonlyappearactivewhentheuser

performsanaction.Forexample,ontheHomepage,Searchhistoryisnotshownuntiltheuser

hasactuallyperformedasearch.Onsubsequentpages,optionssuchasExportwillonly

becomeavailablewhentheuserhasselectedresultstoexport.

ItiseasiertoscanresultsontheResultspageandtosortandexportthechosenresults. AuthorandAffiliationprofilesareoptimizedforeasierscanning,amongstotherimprovements. Usingthenewvisualstyle,inproductusermessagesclarifythemessagecontextandappear

consistentlybelowthemainnavigationbar(belowthepageheader).

HomePageInadditiontocolormodificationsandminordesignchanges,theHomepageofScopusremainslargely

thesame.Specificchangesinclude:

1. TheHomepageincludesBrowseSourcesandAnalyzeJournals(thisfunctionalitywaspreviouslylocatedonthemainnavigationbarbelowtheScopuslogo).Thisnewlocation

highlightstheseactionsasprimaryactivitiesbyplacingthemnexttothemainsearchtabs.

2. ButtonssuchasExport,DownloadandViewcitationoverviewthatrequireausertofirstperformanactivityaredisableduntilactivatedbytheusere.g.theuserhastomakeaselection

oftheresultsfortheseactionbuttonstobeactivated.LimittoandExcludeandtheSearch

withinresultsbuttonsareotherexamplesofwherethisbehavioroccurs.Thisbehavioris

consistentthroughoutScopus.

3. ActionlinkssuchasShowabstractonlyshowupwhentheuserhoversoveraresult.ThismakesiteasiertoscantheResultspage.Linkswillonlyappearblueonhoverover.Andyet

anotherexampleofwherethisinteractionoccursistheViewmoreintheRefineresultspanel.

4. Outwardlinkstofulltextwillalwaysdisplay,ensuringthatavailablefulltextiseasilyidentifiable.5. Thenumberofresultsreturnedhasanewtexttreatment(largerfont)andplacement.6. Exportappearsasapopoutpanel.Theprimaryresearchmanagementtoolsarecalledout

usinglogosandtextlabels.UserscandirectlyExportresultstoMendeley.[Screenshot7]7. SelectallandSelectpageareonecheckboxwithSelectpageasthedefault.ToSelectall

insteadofthepage,themenunexttothecheckboxmustbeused.
