My name is Ian Barreto and I am a member of Section 701. I am a part of an ASQ group called the Young Quality Professionals. We are hosting a networking event at the upcoming World Conference for Quality Improvement on Monday May 21st at the Bar Louie located in the Garden Walk in Anaheim. A goal of our group is to reach out to professionals new to quality and students interested in the field to promote participation in ASQ to develop future leaders in our organization. Here is a link to our LinkedIn event (http://linkd.in/wq1h3t).

If you have any questions about this event or the Young Quality Professionals group, you can reach them at this email [email protected] or via phone at (760)646-1148. Hope to hear from you soon! Thanks!

A few Reminders:

If you made changes and have not updated your profile with ASQ you may be missing valuable information. Each month as part of the ASQ information email there is typically a member free gift. The member free gifts have included short webinars on various topics. I have found these webinars to be an excellent opportuntiy for a lunch and learn session or just to refresh my knowledge. The monthly gifts have also included forms / tools that you can use.

May 8 Dinner MeetingDoubletree Hotel, 201 E. MacArthur Blvd, Santa Ana

5:45 pm Clinic # 1, PRO Enterprise Management: Resolving Problems, Mitigating Risks, and Capturing Opportunities Presented by: Brian W. Hagen, Ph.D. Recognized or not, every executive and manager owns a portfolio that is critical to the success of their organization

and plans-- a portfolio of problems, risks, and opportunities. Managing and measuring problems, risks, and opportunities through different and sometimes conflicting processes skews focus and effort ultimately undermining the potential value of the enterprise. This presentation will discuss a new, innovative, and award-winning approach for successfully managing and measuring any portfolio of problems, risks, and opportunities across an enterprise. 5:45 pm Clinic # 2, Mark Lindsay presents World Cafe - Affinity Diagram - Performance Issues - Part 2 of 2 . He who has the best supply chain/base has a competitive

advantage. This presentation will cover how to that they are trying to resolve. Each Group will have its own unique colors of post-it-notes to represent their industry• Participants will organize the issues into natural groupings

and create Summary Header Cards.• The individual Groups Summary Header Cards will be

placed on a Master Affinity Diagram and Master Summary Header Cards will be created.

• Will share and discuss what the Participants have created. What are the general common issues across industries? What is unique?

At 7:30 pm, the dinner presentation will be Speaking So People Listen: How to Make Powerful Presentations by Dr. Ariane David. Experts tell us that the fear of public speaking is second only to the fear of death. That’s a problem since, these days, making presentations is practically a part of the job description. One of the things that makes it so difficult is that people are rarely ready to speak when they get to the podium. Yet with the proper understanding of what’s needed and with the right preparation, public speaking can be way easier than it looks. What participants will learn how to:

• Change how they “think” about speaking in front of groups

• Create interesting content• Design Power Point slides that enhance the talk, but

don’t take over
