5:45pm Clinic # 1, Bachan Anand presents Program Management Basics.Clinic description not available at press-time. Please check our website for details. 5:45pm Clinic # 2, Linda Howe Garriz will present
What Every Manager Should Know About SPC and Capability. Statistical Process Control and Capability Analysis is often implemented without knowing the true benefit to the company itself. We need to take SPC from the world of “Statistics to Please Customers” to statistics that actually improve our processes.
Participant Take-Aways
• What every Quality Manager needs to know about the benefit of SPC and Capability Analysis
• Common pitfalls to avoid in implementing and using SPC and Capability Analysis.
At 7:30 pm, the dinner topic The “WOW” Factor! will be presented by Chris Alexander. It is all about making the customer experience outrageously extraordinary - and it's the beauty and art of business. It’s designed to deliver an audience experience that communicates clearly that to be “WOWed” is magical. It is full of great examples, anecdotes, and participation that will deliver rave reviews. This presentation includes three powerful principles of business success:
1. The "WOW" Factor! will build customer loyalty for life;2. People buy from people they like and trust; and3. By Synergizing with customers you will increase revenues and reduce costs.
We all have brands products and people we love to do business with. When we experience the magic of The "WOW" Factor!, we want to repeat it over and over. It's flattering, it's attractive and we want more of it.In the business arena individuals and executives who embrace service as a value build long-term loyal customers who become advocates, and raving fans. This results in brand development, increased referrals, sales and strength.
Linda Howe Garriz is Director, Quality Assurance Operations at the Irvine Technology Center of Alcon Research, Ltd. in Irvine, California. Certified Calibration Technician Refresher Course
ASQ Section 701 will provide training for the ASQ Certified Calibration Technician (CCT) this fall. The CCT body of knowledge developed by ASQ provides recognition for professional accomplishment of calibration technicians to an internationally recognized level of proficiency. In addition, the CCT includes information to inform calibration technicians their contributions contribute to related quality improvement processes within an organization.
Successful Quality Management Systems require an organizational culture that understands the importance of a team effort in order to achieve organizational excellence. For many years, laboratories have contributed to organizational excellence by assuring measurement equipment is properly applied through maintenance and calibration procedures. These laboratory technicians are very knowledgeable and dedicated professionals who often do not receive the recognition their contributions provide. These professionals often are not actively involved with quality improvement efforts outside of the laboratory.
Do your calibration professionals have this knowledge? Are they recognized for their accomplishments? Are you ready to elevate your employees and your organization to the next level of quality improvement?
These class meets for 9 Mondays beginning October 3, 2011 at NOOCC.

ASQ Certification Refresher CoursesHighest Value = Low Cost + Most Comprehensive
Section 0701 - Orange Empire
Section Educational Mission:
1. Provide the highest value, most comprehensive and exhaustive ASQ Certification Refresher Courses available in the Orange Empire geographic region; and
2. Promote a high professional presence of certified quality professionals in Southern California; and3. Encourage professional certification within the section membership, supporting businesses, educational
institutions, and the Southern California community; and4. Foster a learning community of engaged and skilled quality professionals.
Section refresher courses are offered bi-annually on a rotation that supports ASQ Certification Exams. The Certification exams are offered by the section four times per year the first Saturday in March, June, October, and December. Exams are administered by ASQ Headquarters and our section Chief Proctor. Currently, the section exams are hosted by Alcon Labs (10+ years). The support of Alcon Labs allows the section to continue offering low-cost education programs to ASQ members.
Starting in 2007 the section expanded their traditional refresher courses and together with Alcon Labs, NOCCCD (North Orange County Community College District) began to host these evening courses. By offering their facility, these organizations show significant support of the continued educational development of the mid-career professionals. The support of NOCCCD and Alcon Labs allows us to meet the demand for quality professional certification in Southern California. Specifically, their support has allowed the section to double the number of refresher courses available to the Southern California community since 2007. The Orange Empire Section 0701 consistently offers one of the most comprehensive programs of certification prep courses available in the entire in the United States.
The section currently offers 12 Refresher Courses in this bi-annual cycle. Each course covers the Body of Knowledge (BOK) as identified on the ASQ Headquarters website, www.asq.org. Courses are offered one night per week (Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday) for 3 hours on consecutive weeks (9 to 15) and are designed to cover a comprehensive review of the Body of Knowledge (BOK) as published by ASQ Headquarters on their website at www.asq.org. This is 27-45 hours of classroom instruction on the details specified in the certification Body of Knowledge (BOK). Instructors are carefully chosen by the section and are continuously monitored for effectiveness and responsiveness to their students. The ASQ Instructor Validation Model is used by the section to validate instructors. Instructor candidates are qualified through clinic or key-note presentations at the Orange Empire dinner meetings.
For members currently in transition (unemployed), section refresher courses are offered at 50% through the 2012 fiscal year. In addition, the section provides scholarships to current volunteers recommended by their committee chair. These scholarships include the refresher course as well as the cost of the exam and the course study material. This scholarship to section refresher courses has been offered for over 5 years and has been approved by ASQ Headquarters. If you qualify for the section scholarship, please let the leadership committee know of your interest. Once a candidate has the support of their committee leader and has completed an interview with the education chair, the scholarship candidate is presented to the Leadership Committee who votes on the final award. Scholarship candidates are required to give a minimum of 25 hours of volunteer activity within the section.
Additional refresher courses are considered depending upon local interest and demand, a host facility, and qualified instructors.

ORANGE EMPIRE QUARTERLY BREAKFAST MEETINGFriday, July 29, 2011
Risk Management: “AS9100 Rev C Risk Analysis and Mitigation. Is your organization in alignment with the Standard?”
Presented by: Steve LoveladyOne of the key changes to AS9100 Rev C is Risk. “An undesirable situation or circumstance that has both a likelihood of occurring and a potentially negative consequence
AS 9100 Rev C, Section 7.1.2 Risk Management Requires:
The organization shall establish, implement and maintain a process for managing risk to the achievement of applicable requirements, that includes as appropriate to the organization and the product:
a) Assignment of responsibilities for risk management
b) Definition of risk criteria (e.g. likelihood , consequences, risk acceptance),
c) Identification, assessment and communication of risks throughout product realization,
d) Identification, implementation and management of actions to mitigate risks that exceed the defined risk acceptance criteria, and
e) Acceptance of risks remaining after implementation of mitigating actions.
The understanding of risk is important for an organization to develop a proactive quality management system and to implement an effective management process.
Group exercises will be conducted performing actual ‘risk assessments” by requesting specific product input from the attendees and utilization of these sample products in a real time risk analysis.
The presentation will focus on 4 key areas:
>>>Design Risk
>>>Supplier Risk
>>>Value Added Risk
>>>Non Value Added Risk
This presentation is intended as a overview and ‘road map” of the risk management and the mitigation process and will include working examples of the risk analysis process and implementation.
The objective is to enable each attended to leave the presentation with a better understanding of risk management and use the tools supplied to enhance their current process.
