Hello and I hope everyone is keeping well. As we continue to be away from the school this week, I have set out some more schoolwork for you to continue with at home. Note: As I have said in previous weeks, complete the work as best you can and do not worry if you get stuck in any area. Just skip on to the next thing and do your best in each topic area! That will be enough! FAO Parents - Again I’d like to thank you for your efforts at home with the children during this busy and time. FAO Parents - If you wish to submit pictures of your child’s science or art activities for possible display on the school website, you are welcome to submit pictures for these two activities through the school email address ([email protected] ). Parental permission is required to email to the school and display such material. Extra Activities are not compulsory, but you may find them helpful for understanding new subject areas and I suggest checking them out as you go along. Virtual School Tour – This week I would recommend completing the science, music and art lessons earlier in the week so that you can complete the Virtual School Tour later in the week, perhaps on Thursday and Friday. The details of the tour are included at the end of this document (History and Geography lessons are substituted with the virtual tours this week). It might be best to split the tour into two days where you can watch maybe two or three videos on the first day of the tour and the remainder on the second day. The tour has videos and questions linked to the International Space Station (ISS) and what the astronauts do while living on the space station. The questions are given so that you will have information to look out for while watching the videos. Don’t worry if you don’t get all the information for the questions and answers. The closing date for the “We are Writers” was the 29th May 2020. If possible, try to submit your writing activity as soon as possible if you have not already done so. We have had excellent writing pieces submitted so far from Finn, Ella, Aidan, Zac, Leah, Freya, Eli, Megan, Aaron, Conall, Sophia, Hazel and Ailbhe in 3rd class. We also received excellent writings from Lorcan, Josh and Jake in 2nd class.
As mentioned last week, we also received great pictures from Leah and Ruby (from 3rd class) of their bridge building projects. Well done, great work and effort!
As mentioned in previous weeks, Aidan sent in a brilliant video showing him completing the ‘Good Egg’ (float or sink) science experiment and Megan sent in an excellent picture of herself completing the magnetism experiment. Lorcan from second class also sent in wonderful pictures of himself completing the ‘Water Washer’ (cleaning water experiment) and the ‘Good Egg’ (float or sink) science experiments. Well done, great work and effort!

We also received fantastic History/Geography projects/displays about the Vikings in Ireland from Ella in 3rd class and from Lexi in 2nd class. The two of them had lots of information, pictures and maps about the Vikings. Well done, great work and effort!
New PE activities – please note that information for the new ‘Ireland’s Fittest School’ initiative which the school is registered for, and how to access the videos, is available in the Active Sports tab on the school website. The YouTube video exercise sessions are posted online on Tuesday and Thursday, each week.

Monday Maths: This week, we are going to do some revision on what has been covered during the year. The questions each day will be from mixture of topics.
English:Spellings: This week there will be 12 spellings only. You can learn them over the week and maybe get someone to test you at the end of the week. Use the same method as we normally use in class.
This week for revision of phonics we are going to do ‘th’ words .

Reading
We are going to finish reading “Camping Fun” this week.
Vocabulary: check with an adult or an older brother or sister (if you have one) for the meaning of words you may not be sure of.
Irish: – VocabularyToday I want you to read the vocabulary on the An Gruagaire (The hairdressers). Once you have read the words by looking at the pictures and saying the words to yourself in Irish and in English, see if someone at home can test your memory of the words. Try to learn them over the five days of this week. With the permission of a parent/guardian you can go to www.folensonline.ie and go to chapter 24 in the resources tab, click on ‘póstaer’ , then ‘foclóir’ where you can also learn the vocabulary. The ‘luaschartaí’ in the Folens resources tab can also be used to revise the vocabulary on this chapter.

Materials and Change – Changing shapeWe have already seen have materials can be mixed, separated and some materials as we saw last week will not mix (oil and water). This week we are going to do a short investigation on some objects made of different materials and see can they change shape and in what ways can we change their shape.
