What is the Pre-AP in GT Pre-AP ELA?

• Pre-AP classes raise the bar for students by asking them to reflect not only on the “What?” of language studies, but also on the “So what?”

• Students not only examine plot, setting, and characters, but they also connect the author’s purposeful use of language with attitude, effect, and universal meaning.

• They read not only for plot but also for structure and theme.

What is the Pre-AP in GT Pre-AP ELA?

• Students write reflectively, thinking in writing about the meaning of the words, actions, and events they encounter both in literature and in life.

• They write argumentatively, structuring evidence in persuasive, logical ways.

• Using their own life experiences, they write stories that reflect their deepest concerns and ideas.
