Assistive technologies
Assistive tech - The need
Freedom for people with disabilities
● In Greece, 60-70% of people with disabilities live at risk of poverty or exclusion
● Technology can be a very important tool for people with disabilities - Assistive technologies can really help
● Unfortunately, assistive technologies are very expensive(and usually not covered by the state in Greece)
● Many parents of children with disabilities do not know the possibilities that technology can offer and are trapped in a mentality that does not allow the development of their children's abilities
● Many practitioners and special education teachers lack the IT tools to work efficiently
Assistive technologies
Assistive tech - The opportunity
Freedom for people with disabilities
● The need is huge
● Open IT solutions that are freely provided can have enormous impact….
○ ...provided support communities are created around them
● Assistive technologies can easily be scaled - even outside Greece
