Process questions:1. What changes was mentioned in the video? What happens to the object when cut? When crumpled? When teared? making sand castles? carving of wood,? boiling of water?2. Did it change in size? Shape?3. What happened to the trunk of a tree when cut into pieces of lumber?4. Is there a change? What changes have you noticed?

Material Observe Before Slicing

After Slicing

 Guava

size

shape

color

odor

Activity 2: Perform the following activities by group:

1 – Observe a real fruit (Guava, avocado or any fruit available) Record your observation using the table:

Is there a difference on the fruit before and after slicing? What change is involved? Why?

Material Observe Before Crumpling

After Crumpling

 Dried leaves

shape

color

odor

2 – Observe some dried leaves. Crumple the leaves. Record your observations using the table:

Is there a difference on the fruit before and after slicing? What change is involved? Why?

Material Observe Before Pounding

After Pounding

 chalk

size

shape

color

odor

3- Observe a piece of chalk. Using a stone or hammer, pound or pulverize it. Record your observation using the table:

Is there a difference on the chalk before and after pounding or pulverizing it? What change is involved? Why?

Material Observe Before Bending

After Bending

 wire

4- Observe a wire. Bend the wire and form different shapes. Record your observations and compare the result of bending using the table:

Is there a difference on the wire before and after bending? What change is involved? Why

Page 12: Science V - Physical Change

a. What are some of the physical changes observed in the activity?b. Were the changes that happened similar to all the materials? Why?c. Name some physical change that may take place in a piece of wood?

Page 13: Science V - Physical Change

Physical change takes place in materials when they undergo changes in size, shape, and state but not its kind or composition under certain activities or conditions like, cutting, tearing, melting , pounding, bending breaking, crumpling, etc. It may appear different but it is still the same inside.

Activity 3- Light a candle. Observe the wax of a candle while it is lighted. a. What happens to the wax? Now, blow off the light of a candle. b. What happens to the wax as it cools?. Light the candle again, c. What happens to the wax again? What change is involved here? Why?

Carlo uses a remodeled “hand-me-down” uniform from his kuya. He doesn’t go to school because his uniform is not new.

Is this a right attitude? Why? If you were Carlo what will you do?

Directions: Read and choose the letter of the correct answer:____1. Melting of ice is a physical change? Why?

a. Yes because it undergo a change in size and shape.b. No, because it changed from solid to liquid.c. Yes, because it changed in composition.d. No, because there is a change in state.

____2. Which of the following activities is a physical change?a. Carving of wood c. Making wood into a chairb. Burning of wood d. both a and c

____3. Mother swept in the yard and collected so many dried leaves which appeared to be a bulk of garbage. Which of the following activity did mother do that involved physical change?

a. Burned the dried leaves to repel mosquitos.b. Pulverized the leaves and placed on her flower pots.c. Boiled the dried leaves to make a liquid disinfectant for

wounds.d. All of the above

____4. All of the following conditions or activities involves a physical change EXCEPT--- a. burning a piece of paper c. melting of candle wax

b. slicing of apple into portions d. bending of iron grills to make designs.____5. How will you make a physical change from a piece of cloth?

a. By tearing it c. By folding itb. By cutting it d. All of the above.

Assignment:

1. Name at least 3 physical changes that happen in the home or school.2. When physical change occur in matter, is there a new product formed? Why?
