The delegation of the secretaries-general of the Christian educational

institutions in the Holy Land and the Middle East conferences

in Rome-Vatican

Rome-Vatican: The delegation of the secretaries-general of the Christian educational institutions in the Holy Land and the Middle East returned home after attending two conferences.

The delegation of the secretaries-general of the Christian educa-tional institutions in the Holy Land and the Middle East returned home after attending two conferences; the first was for the mem-bers of the general assembly of the world educational general secretariats, and the second was under the title “ Education is a Continuous Passion.”

In the first conference,Fr. Abdulmasih Fahim and deacon Dr.Jeries Mansour represented Galilee Christian schools, Fr. Dr Faysal Hijazen represented Palestine Christian Schools, Fr. Rashid Mustarih represented Jordan Christian schools, in addition to secretaries general of Christian educational institutions who represent 230 thousand Christian schools

with 46 million students in forty countries.

At the outset of the conference, a board of directors and an international secretary general for the Christian schools were elected .Various educational issues were discussed. Fr. Butros Azar presented a report about school conditions in the Middle East and the challenges they meet under current political situations, and their impact on Arab childrens psychology and violating legitimate rights to education and a safe decent living.The conferees called upon state presidents and church bishops all over the world to care for the personality of a child, and to refine it with human values in order to establish a community that is capable of building up peace and respect for the rights of childhood. The Middle East secretaries general demanded that a fourth member be added to the board of directors of OIEC, and the number of the board of directors became four instead of three. It was also decided that Arabic will be one of languages used in the deliberations of the conference meetings.

The second conference was in cooperation with the educational congregation, the international secretariat for the catholic schools and the secre-tariat general for the catholic universities around the world.Educational experts from different countries de-livered lectures in which they demonstrated their expertise in education and the modern methods of education.

On Saturday morning, a meeting with His Holiness Pope Francis concluded the conference. He an-swered various questions put forward about the catholic educational crisis, and how to revive the links between the family, the school and the state within a framework of education about the culture of rap-prochement, and finally about the challenges educators face nowadays at this time of wars. Following is a summary of what the Pope asserted on in his talk with the representatives of the schools and universities around the world.

1.The crisis of Catholic education In his answer to the question about the crisis of the Catholic education, the Pope said, “It comes to my mind what a great thinker once said, “Education is introducing someone to the whole truth. Consequently, we can-not talk about a catholic education without talking about humanity, and he asserted that Catholic education is not only the catechism, but it is also educating children and adolescents about complete human values and in all its shapes and forms, one of which is sublimation. The real crisis which education suffers from today is seclusion. We are secluded from sublimation, and consequently we must prepare our hearts for the advent of the Lord in his fullness, that is in the fullness of His Godhead bodily. We must give humanitarian educa-tion, but with open horizons because seclusion does not benefit education

2. Education about “The culture of rapprochement ”In his answer to the second question on how to live the links between the family, the school and the state within the framework of education on the culture of rapproche-ment, the Pope pointed out that educational links have been severed, and that education has become selective and for the elite only. He asserted that it is a flawed reality because it makes us live according to human selection which, instead of drawing individuals and peoples closer to each other, it is pulling them apart. The Pope added, pointing out that the educational links between the fam-ily and the state have been severed, and consequently we find that workers who are paid the least wages are educators. This is an indication that the state does not care about education, otherwise things would have been different.

Pope Francis encouraged searching for new methods of education after the “example Don Bosco” who,in his time, founded what is known as the «Preventive Education.» Today we need preventive education, and we should take a risk with a pattern of unfamiliar education, beyond the usual educational frameworks, and be open to new methods and forms i.e. educational methods that do not rely on educating the mind

on certain thoughts and concepts only, because education does not only address the mind, but it also addresses the heart and the hands as well. That’s why education should include these three dimensions in a harmoni-ous manner, education then, becomes human integration for all, because the world cannot go forward with a selective education.

Pope Francis added that at school we are not only educated, but we are brought up on traditions and values. Within this concept, he pointed out to the severance of relations which we live today between the school and home, which is a very grave issue, because it is an indication of the non-existence of dialogue, and the existence of a certain kind of violence, and wherever violence exists, humanization is absent. That’s why the educa-tor must take a risk, because the person who doesn’t know how to take a risk is not fit to educate. Education is like teaching a toddler how to walk. A real educator knows how to take a risk.

3. The challenges. In his answer to the last question, the pope asserted that the challenge lies within going to the suburbs where there is number of educators, and going to the needy and the poor who suffer from hunger and injus-tice, not because of a crime they made, but because of a painful social situation. These people are hurt in their humanity. And just as we get our salvation from the wounds of a man who died on the cross, similarly the educators can also get wisdom from the wounds of those people.

The pope pointed out another challenge; walls. They constitute the mark of the greatest failure for the edu-cator and for education as well. We cannot educate within closed walls of a selective education or walls of a social sector that lives in luxury. The Pope concluded his speech by saying to the educators, “ I give you homework to do when you go back home. Think of the fourteen acts of corporal and spiritual mercy, and how to live them within the framework of Education. Think well how you can live these acts of mercy, the acts of mercy of the father’s love, and how the father’s love can reach the others through your work as educators.

The General Administration Meeting with LPS French teachers

Ramallah: On Tuesday Nov.24 , Fr. Dr. Faysal Hijazen, the Director General with LPS, held a meeting for all LPS French teachers at AL Ahliyyah College in Ramallah. During the meeting Fr. Faysal asserted on the importance of the French language in LPS, especially after the excellent results LPS students achieved in the DELF exam held last year. The agenda of the meeting included : 1.The educational relations with the French consulate 2. The DELF exam. 3. The project of Christmas cards 4. The French club at LPS. 5. Training programs for the French teachers. 6. The project of correspondence among LPS students .

It›s worth mentioning that French is the second foreign language taught at LPS, in addition to Arabic and English. LPS students sit for the French Consulate annual DELF exam, and achieve excellent results every year.

Nov. 2nd marks the 98th Anniversary of the Infamous Balfour Declaration. On this day in 1917, the British Foreign Secretary Sir Arthur James Balfour issued the following statement in a letter to the British Zionist Partisan Lionel Walter Rothschild

“Foreign OfficeNovember 2nd, 1917Dear Lord Rothschild,I have much pleasure in conveying to you, on behalf of His Majesty’s Government, the following decla-ration of sympathy with Jewish Zionist aspirations which has been submitted to, and approved by, the Cabinet.His Majesty’s Government view with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jew-ish people, and will use their best endeavours to facilitate the achievement of this object, it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country.I should be grateful if you would bring this declaration to the knowledge of the Zionist Federation.Yours sincerely,Arthur James Balfour”

The pro-Palestinians look upon this declaration as a stigma in human history, because “He who does not own gave to those who do not deserve.” Britain had no right whatsoever to endorse a Jewish homeland in an Arab country. It is worth mentioning that at the time when this declaration was issued, the Jews con-stituted only 5% of the population in Palestine.This infamous declaration has caused hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to flee their native land and live as refugees in diaspora. They had to live a miserable life in tents donated by the UNRWA for years, and to suffer the heat of the sun in the hot summer season, and the cold and rain, and even snow during the cold winter season. The Palestinian Authority deems the Balfour Declaration as a “big crime” for which the British government should not only apologize, but compensate the Palestinian people for the years of British and Zionist occupation of Palestine, and help the Palestinians establish their own state on Pales-tinian land. Even the MacDonald White Paper of 1939 issued by the British government rejected the idea of the creation of a Jewish state and the idea of partitioning Palestine. Further, it promised that only with Palestinian support would Britain allow Jewish state.

Celebrating The Universal Children’s DayLPS in Palestine celebrated the Universal Children’s Day through a special activity staged by the social workers and the staff. The activity was directed at acquainting the students with their rights and obliga-tions. During the morning assembly, the students delivered speeches in which they expressed their hopes and aspirations for a better future.

LPS commemorate the martyrdom of the late president Yasser Arafat – Abu Ammar

On Nov.11,2015, all LPS in Palestine commemorated the eleventh anniversary of the martyrdom of the late president Yasser Arafat.

Memorial speeches were delivered and Palestinian flags were hoisted. The stu-dents asserted their national commitment, the legacy of the Palestinian Presi-dent Yasser Arafat and the preponderant goal of freedom and an independant Palestinian State.

This annual commemoration event aims at acquainting students with the late President Abu Ammar, his role in the Palestinian Revolution, the establishment of PLO (Palestinian Liberation Organization) and Fateh, the peace process, his siege by the occupation forces in his headquarters in Ramallah, his stand in supporting the Palestinian people at home and in Diaspora, his steadfast stand in the Palestinian case and his rejection of the US and Israeli conditions during the peace process.

On Monday Nov.2, All LPS celebrated All Souls’ Day. In Christianity, it is a day commemorating the faithful departed, particularly but not exclusively one’s rela-tives. Requiem masses were celebrated and the students and staff attended these masses. The officiating parish priests said in their sermons that it is a Christian obligation to pray for the repose of the faithful souls in purgatory.

Various prayers are said around the world for those in purgatory. One of the most famous prayers is the prayer of St. Gertrude the Great, a 13th century German Benedictine nun. According to tradition, God revealed to the nun that the following prayer would release 1,000 souls from purgatory every time it is said:

“Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.”

Celebrating the feast of St. Mary AlphonsineOn Thursday Nov.19, LPS in Palestine celebrated the feast of the recently canonized St. Mary Alphonsine, the founder of the Rosary Sisters order. The students and the teachers attended the holy mass, and the officiating priests talked about the miracles performed by the saint which led to her canonization. They also extended the grati-tude of LPS general administration to the Rosary sisters for their important role as religion teachers in LPS.

A communal breakfast of olive oil and thymeOn the occasion of the olive harvest season, third-graders of Beit Sahour LPS and fifth-graders of Jifna LPS shared in a communal breakfast of fresh hot bread and the traditional Palestinian breakfast dish of pickled green and black olives,olive oil and thyme.The objective of this activity is to stress on the importance of the olive trees that dot the hillsides and terraces of Palestine, and the fact that olive oil is the best kind of oil in the world.

Learning through games:Using games as an educational tool provides op-portunities for deeper learning. Games are a very efficient method in learning, especially when the de-signed game is interesting and simple. Aboud LPS applied this method in teaching the Arabic language for grades one and two.

A visit to the oil pressAboud, like all the other Palestinian villages, is fa-mous for its olive trees which are considered the main source of living for many families.

Olive harvest is a Palestinian national event, and the olive tree is a symbol of Palestinian rooted-ness. In order to entrench this concept in the minds of the students, the third-graders, accompanied by their class teacher, paid a visit to the oil press, and watched the four steps of the process of extracting oil from the olives.

Boycotting Israeli ProductsOn Thursday Nov. 18, Aboud LPS hosted the chairperson of the Consumer Protection Society and the representative of the Food Industry Union. The guests talked to the students about the importance of boy-cotting the Israeli products and encouraging the Palestinian local products which enhances the Palestinian economy.At the end of the meeting, the representative of Al Jibrini Dairy Products company distributed small yogurt containers to the students.

Recreational DayOn Thursday Nov.12, regular classes were can-celled after the fourth period, and a recreational day was staged instead. Various matches and com-petitions were held, and the students enjoyed the change and had a good time.

Cleaning CampaignThe seventh-graders staged a cleaning campaign for cleaning the schoolyard. The aim of this cam-paign is to enhance the concept of a clean environ-ment and to and to entrench in the students’ minds the concept of voluntary work through participating in this campaign.

Fund raising projectThrough an initiative from the Wild Life Society, Beit Sahour LPS and ten other schools in the area pre-sented fund raising projects to the Wild Life Society in a fundraising competition to finance their proj-ects.

Beit Sahour LPS project comes under the title of “Raising funds for procuring costumes for the school Dabkeh dancing troupe.” The Wild Life Society will choose the best five projects and finance them. The deadline for presenting these proposals is by the end of the year 2015.

The main objective of this activity is to train the stu-dents on writing fund raising projects and following them up until the desired goal is achieved.We hope that our school will qualify as one of the winning schools.

The Wild Life Society, in coop-eration with Beit Sahour LPS. staged the activity of paper recy-cling. The process was demon-strated and explained to the fifth-graders under the supervision of teacher Hiba Bannoura. This activity is part of the curriculum for the fifth grade.

Boycotting Israeli products Mr. Mazen Al Azzeh, member of boycotting the Israeli products committee in Bethlehem, de-livered a lecture on boycotting the Israeli products, especially the products of the Israeli settlements. Mr. Azzeh asserted the importance of encouraging and added that it is a national obligation because it enhances the Palestinian economy. .

Pictures from my town project

Under the supervision of Mrs Abir Banoura, the Eng-lish teacher, the seventh-graders staged an activity under the title of “Pictures of my town.”

Some students painted beautiful portraits of the town, others prepared a documentary that included pictures of the town, others showed pictures of the town through power point. This activity comes within the framework of making documentaries and how to use the computer in presenting pictures with cap-tions. On the other hand, the main objective of this activity is to encourage students to express them-selves in English, whether written or oral.

Bir Zeit LPS awarded a certificate of excellence

The Director of Education of Ramallah Governorate paid a visit to Bir Zeit LPS and awarded the school a certificate of excellence for the excellent results LPS students achieved in the Tawjihi exam last year 2014-2015. It is worth mentioning that all the stu-dents passed this exam and achieved excellent re-sults. He congratulated the school on this achieve-ment and wished the students all the best.

Taekwondo training ClassesWithin the framework of the extracurricular classes for this school year, and in cooperation with The Stone House Association, a special team of tae-kwondo experts are training the fifth graders on this self-defense martial art.

On Tuesday Nov. 10, LPS, in cooperation with Bir Zeit University, staged a medi-cal day for the university nursing students under the supervision of Dr. Mu’taz, various medical tests were conducted for students from the first grade up to the fourth grade. The medi-cal examinations included checking weight and height, in addition to optometry, teeth and hearing tests.

Electing the new students’ council

Under the supervision of the administration, nine students were elected to the student’s council for the school year 2015-2016. The students from grades eight to grade twelve elected their represen-tatives, one student for each class. Positions will be distributed next week.We wish the new students’ council all the best.

The school administration and staff held their first meeting with the students’ parents. This meeting aims at strengthening the cooperation between the parents and the school, and to acquaint parents with educational problems the students face. This requires complete cooperation of the parents with the school in order to overcome these problems and to upgrade the educational process.

The director of Almanahel Cultural Centre visits

On Tuesday Oct.27, Mr. Basel Kattaneh, the direc-tor general of Almanahel Cultural Centre, paid a visit to the school. He was received by the school prin-cipal Fr. Nidal Qanozu’ah. The purpose of the visit was to discover and encourage the latent talents of the students and their needs, and to set up a special program for them.

GermanyA group of ten students, accompanied by Fr. Ibrahim Nino and Ms.Caroline Ibrahim, teacher of the Ger-man language, who left for a ten–day visit to Biele-feld, Germany, concluded their visit and returned home safely.

The group participated in various cultural and edu-cational activities and talked about the political situ-ation in Palestine in general and the effect of the current political situation on the students and the educational process. They also visited the German capital Berlin.

This visit was arranged by Amideast within the framework of the cultural exchange program which aims at building bridges between our school and Holm Helts German school, and as a result of the German course the school started at the rate of two hours a week.We wish our students all the best in their German classes.

Laurine Haddad represents Palestine in Italy

LPS student Laurine Haddad represented Pal-estine in the conference of “The network of the most beautiful villages in the Mediterranean basin.” She delivered a speech at the confer-ence held in Cisterno in which she explained the importance of the town of Zababdeh in the northern region of Palestine and its natural beauty. We are proud of our students

Practical science classesThe ninth-graders built a model of the moon surface and used it to explain a lesson about the moon sur-face for the fourth–graders.

Learning through playingA new program for learning through playing was started at Zababdeh LPS. The sixth-graders played the game of finding out the speed average and the fourth-graders built an electric circuit.

Psychologist Wa’el Hasan meets with the

Tawjihi studentsPsychologist Wa’el Hasan delivered a lecture to the Tawjihi students in which he explained how to get rid of the psychological tension, and how to utilize the time in preparing for the first semester trial exams.

This meeting aims at reducing the tension and anxi-ety that many students suffer from during the ex-ams. These factors have a negative effect on the student’s concentration and achievement which might have a very negative impact on his future.

Honoring an outstanding studentAl Zababdeh – in compliance with the LPS goals; accepting people the way they are and accepting those special needs students admitted to the school. the school admits students with special needs. Aseel Awaad, a child who suffers from the seventh nerve facial palsy, has been admitted into the first grade and was also honourd by the school administrationAseel, after great efforts exerted by the social worker and the teachers, especially the English Language teacher, was able to answer all the questions in an English worksheet given to all students, including herself. She was successfully able to answer all the questions by herself without any help. This is a great achievement in her life and in her healing process. Con-gratulations to her and her family on this academic progress, and to the teachers who will be the compassionate umbrella for all students in general, and for Aseel in particular. In appreciation and love, she was honored with an encourag-ing gift by Father Nidal Qanzu’a, the school principal, who commended the role of teachers on this achievement .

A lecture about the harm of drugs Zababda LPS organized a lecture for the eleventh-graders about the Psychological, physical and ethical harm of drugs. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Waleed Basha with his interesting and beautiful style . He gave examples of the many harmful effects on human life, and the grave impact of drugs on the drug addicts. He also warned of the great danger that our Palestinian society faces these days from this harm-ful lesion. Our deepest gratitude and appreciation to all those who staged this activity, especially the students’ parents council.

The school rules and regulations

The staff met for studying the guide of the school rules and regulations, and the possibility of distrib-uting it to the parents and students, and implement-ing it this school year.

Scientific activity for the third-graders

The science teacher of grade three conducted some scientific experiments for the third-graders and the students watched the chemical reactions and how to benefit from them.

National Independence DayThe school celebrated the anniversary of the declaration of independence and the establishment of the state of Palestine. The celebration, which was held in the school playground, was attended by a huge crowd of officials and citizens and it included national songs, speeches and other activities.

In his speech, Fr. Nidal Qanzu’ah, the school principal, welcomed the attendants and said that the school turns out the future leaders.

In a similar national activity, the school celebrated the Palestinian kufiyya (men’s headwear) day. On this special occasion, all the students and teachers wear the Palestinian kufiyya as a confirmation of the Arab identity of the Palestinian people because it represents the heritage and history of the Palestinians and their struggle for freedom.

Meeting with the Tawjihi students’ parents

The school administration and staff held a three-day meeting with the Tawjihi students’ parents.The teachers met individually with each student and his parents, and gave them the grade reports of their his/her children for the first quarter. They points of excellence and weakness of the students and urged the students to work harder on the subjects whose results are unsatisfactory.

Nablus

A visit to the religious sites Under the motto, “Praise be to You, my Lord” (Lau-dato Si), the trip committee in Nablus LPS staged a visit to the religious sites in Nablus to learn about various forms of religious worship and rites of the other religions. and to strengthen the school’s mes-sage of respecting and accepting the other. Stu-dents from grades eight and nine, accompanied by Fr. Simon Hijazin, Sister Mira Kasabreh and some teachers of grades eight and nine visited the church of Jacob’s Well, the big mosque, and Mount Tour.

Sister Mira gave a historical glimpse about the church of Jacob’s Well and teacher Wafa’ talked about the importance of the big mosque. The trip was concluded with a visit to Mount Jerzim where the Samaritans live. The visit coincided with the Feast of Tabernacles, and the students saw the special decorations the Samaritans use in this feast. The students listened to a historical glimpse about the Samaritans, their customs, traditions and their ways of worship.

On the occasion of the olive har-vest, Nablus LPS kindergarten staged an open day which included a traditional Palestinian communal breakfast of olive oil and thyme, pickled black and green olives, pastry covered with olive oil and thyme. The activities also included learning how to pickle olives and a play about the olive harvest and how the olive tree brings the family together in its shade.

The first meeting for first aid courseWithin the framework of voluntary work, and in cooperation with the students’ parents’ council and the medical services, the first meeting of the first aid course was held under the supervision of teacher Rasha. This course consists of twelve meetings in which the participating students will be taught how to deal with emergencies both in the school and in the school or the local community.

A visit to Nassir Palestinian Heritage Center

The boy scouts troop and the students’ council staged a visit to the Nassir Arafat Palestinian Heritage Center in the old city of Nablus

The students, accompanied by the scouts leader and the chairperson of the students council and teacher Nisreen, walked through the streets and alleys of the old town in order to get the chance to become ac-quainted with the historical sites, the merchants, the Khan (inn), Bab Al Saha (The courtyard gate) and Alnasr Street.

Meeting with Dr. Bisharat

On Thursday, Nov.19, Nablus LPS staged a meeting for the students’parents with Dr. Ahmad Bisharat, a specialist in human development. Dr. Bisharat dealt with two very important issues: time management and the internet.

The parents expressed their appreciation for the meeting as it shed light on the best ways of dealing with the children and understanding them in a better way, and they asked for more such meetings which en-lighten the parents on how to deal with their children so that their attitudinal change makes it conspicuous presence in the domestic environment.

A visit to AL Naizak Scientific AssociationThe science committee arranged for a visit to Al Naizak Scientific Association in order to acquire scientific ideas for the students of the science club.

Al Naizak Association is a creative, non-profit, Jerusalemite NGO. It is involved in education, guidance and research in the fields of IT, science and others. It is in search of talented persons in these fields. It also adapts new and unique methods that stimulate the learner to plunge into knowledge in an interesting way in which the learner is a partner rather than a receiver, and to discover for oneself the subtle nuances through scientific research. It also aims at developing and implanting a new culture that appreciates the applied sciences among the youth which would provide them with a promising future.

Paper folding (Origami) activity in the art class

LPS art teacher taught the students in the extra-cur-ricular activity class the Japanese art of origami. i.e how to fold paper and make different images from paper or thin cardboard. Each student tried to come up with a different shape by using either paper or thin cardboard. They made airplanes, boats, caps and other images.

Feeling with the others campaignWithin the framework of feeling with the others, Jifna LPS staged a food collecting campaign for the benefit of the poor orphan students in “Inash Al Usra” foundation in Ramallah.

This campaign comes within the framework of feel-ing with the others to face the life difficulties as there are orphan students who need food and clothing. This activity comes under this year’s school motto “Be Praised” not only in academic life, but in social life as well. We appreciate this kind gesture of our students and extend to them our gratitude and ap-preciation.

A communal breakfast for the seventh-graders.

Teacher Suha Musallam organized a communal breakfast for the seventh- graders, this activity aims at entrenching the social relationships among the classmates by means of implementing team work in planning, preparation and implementation, which enhance the student’s sense of responsibility in or-der to achieve his goals.

Celebrating the Palestinian kufiyya day

Jifna LPS celebrated the Palestinian kufiyya (men’s headwear) day. On this special occasion, all the stu-dents and teachers wear the Palestinian kufiyya as a confirmation of the Arab identity of the Palestinian people because it represents the heritage and his-tory of the Palestinians and their struggle for free-dom.

Remedial PlansDr. Khaled Jawarish held a workshop about remedial plans which aim at enhancing the educational pro-cess in LPS. Dr.Jawarish will visit all LPS in Palestine during the first semester.

Dental checkupIn cooperation with Friends of Holy Lands Associa-tion and Creche Association, dental surgeon Dr. Shukri Jeries carried out a dental checkup for the sixth-graders. This activity was started last school year and it included all students from kindergarten to grade five. This year it will be resumed to include students from grade six to grade twelve. Dr. Jeries referred the students who needed dental care to the family dentist, and he demonstrated to the children the best way to brush their teeth and how to take care of them.

The domestic management activity

Within the extracurricular activities of the schools, and under the supervision of the domestic manage-ment teacher, the domestic management extracur-ricular class brought some cookies and sandwiches which were sold to the students and staff at nominal prices. The revenues of this activity will be used for developing the domestic management classroom.

A visit to Bethlehem Development Foundation CentreThe 10th graders accompanied by Mr. Fadi Stephan, the social studies teacher and Mrs. Hanan Kha-roufeh, the social worker, paid a visit to Bethlehem Development Foundation Centre. This visit comes upon invitation of the chairman of the foundation who visited the school and talked to the principal Mr. Suhail Daibes about the center and encouraged the students to visit the center.

A delegation of the French association “A Rose for Palestine” visits the school

A delegation of the French association “A rose of Palestine” visited and prayed with Beit Jala LPS They were received by Father Iyad, the assistant parish priest, and the school principal Mr Suhail Daibes and a group of the students’ parents. They celebrated Mass in the church of Annunciation , and afterwards they all met in the hall of the elementary school.

Fr. Iyad welcomed the group on behalf of the parish priest Fr.Dr. Aktham Hijazin, and gave a glimpse about the Beit Jala congregation. Then the school principal, Mr. Suhail Daibes, also welcomed the delegation and gave a gave a brief overview of the school, and extended his gratitude to the association for sup-porting our school and several other schools in Palestine with scholarships. At end of the meeting father Dominic thanked the congregation and the school for their warm welcome, and donated some books from the Association. It’s worth mentioning that “A Rose for Palestine” helps more than 132 students in the dif-ferent schools of Palestine. The school principal Mr. Suhail Daibes is an honorary member of the board of this association in France and he is its representative in Palestine.

Certificates of Award

Following a meeting between the staff and the social department, and based on criteria the students progress, the social department awarded the students who showed noticeable improvement on both the conduct and academic levels with certificates of award.

Kindergarten open dayBeit Jala LPS kindergarten is considered one of the best kindergartens in the Bethlehem governorate. It consists of six classes for both boys and girls. The children here start learning the alphabets of three languages.

Arabic, English and French, orally and in writing, in addition to some simple words in English and French such as the names of colours and shapes, they also learn to count in all three languages. This facilitates their learning in the regular school after they “graduate” from the kindergarten.

In order to demonstrate to the parents what their children are being taught in the kindergarten, the school administration staged an open day for parents to demonstrate the skills the children are taught. It included a communal breakfast with the parents and kindergarten teachers. Our deepest gratitude to the kindergar-ten teachers and best wishes for our children.

Our school achieved the third position in the football tournament staged by “The Right to Play Associa-tion” on Dar AL Kalimah School playground.

This is a special tournament in which each team consists of two female players and three male play-ers, and the goal scored by a girl player is counted as two goals.
