PRESCHOOL

Many children start the preschool with 4 months and end it with 3 years.

This school step is not mandatory, the children only go to kindergarten if their parents want to.

PRIMARY SCHOOL

There are two types of schools: public and private.

At the Jacint Verdaguer school, the students begin the school with 3 years old and end it at the age of 12.

There’s eight courses with 2 or 3 classrooms per course. There are specialized rooms like the music room, IT class, canteen…

The classes are from 9am to 12:30am and from 15pm to 16:30pm.

The pupils study maths, english, catalan, spanish, arts, PE and music among other subjects.

HIGH SCHOOL

The students begin the high school with 12 years old and they finish it with 16.

At the IE Jacint Verdaguer high school, the classes start at 8:30am everday and in the afternoon, sometimes there’re no classes.

There are 4 courses in the high school and it has two classrooms per course, there are many multi-purpose rooms and specialized rooms like the technology room, the lab, the music room, IT class and arts class.

The basic lessons (english, catalan, spanish and maths) are divided by three levels for example: Students that understand everything easily go to in a group and the students that have difficulties to understand the lessons go in another group.

The first three years the students, study the compulsory subjects, languages (catalan, spanish, english), maths, PE, natural science... In 1st of ESO they study music, in 2nd arts and in 3rd they study both.

In 4th of eso, the last course of compulsory education, you have to chose a route. Depending on the route you choose, there are 7 different subjects you can choose to study at the beginning of the course.

At the scientific itinerary you can practice chemistry, biology and technology.

At the humanistic itinerary you can practice arts, Latin and music.

Finally, at the degree itinerary you can practice IT (information technology), technology and arts.

Spanish students practice the compulsory subjects as well, like English, Spanish, Maths, history and georaphy, religion, ethics and PE.

HIGH SCHOOL

When they finish the classes at 11:30am they go to the playground and they eat their snack until 12.00pm.

If they don’t bring anything for the break, there’s a canteen service that sells snacks.

They go back to classes until 2:00pm. At the noon, they go home to eat or they

eat at the school. The catering brings a ready-made food to the school and the monitors serve it at the canteen.

At 3.30am they begin the afternoon classes. They don’t go every afternoon to the school, they finish at different hours.

On Monday and Wednesday they go home at 5.30pm.

On Tuesday at 4.30pm and on Thursday and Friday they don’t go to school in the afternoon and they finish at 2.00pm.

OTHER STUDIES

When you finish the high school you can continue studying or work.

At the age of 16 you can do a degree of 4 years and if you want you can enter in the university and do a career.
