Easter is one of the most important Christian celebrations which is

bound to be held in March or in April. On this day, the Christians celebrate

the resurrection of Jesus after his death by being crucified.

During this period of forty days we do not eat meat and on Good

Thursday we boil eggs and paint them red. We break them on Good Saturday

to see who will be the lucky one of the house. Some of the families usually

bake buns.

In these forty days many people like going to the church. At midnight

of Good Saturday we go to church to pray, to light our candles and say

“Christ has risen”. When we return home from church we sometimes make

with our candle light a cross at the front door.

After that day, we roast lamb and “kokoretsi”. We also eat

“kontosouvli” roasted on a spit and we dance to traditional music. Easter is a

wonderful holiday and it brings a lot of families together and they are very

happy because they are reunited.

This is the way we spend Easter vacations and people believe that

Easter is the most important celebration of the year for the Orthodox people.

I have been learning English for about nine years and I am pleased that I

have learnt this language.

It all began when I was seven years old and I started to listen to foreign

music on the radio for about two hours a day and I was very curious to learn

the language that the singers sang. After a while I became more interested so I

started English lessons at a private English school. The lessons there were

very interesting and I was interacting in every lesson.

As the years passed, the English language helped me a lot. I could

understand every word from the songs that I downloaded from the internet. I

could also chat with my cousin that lived in the west of America. That’s why

I’m still learning English to gain further knowledge.

Now I am at an intermediate level and my aim is to reach the highest

degree, because it will give me better qualifications and I will have the

opportunity to travel to England. Furthermore, I will speak English fluently

and this will help me to find a job much easier.

All in all, English is a universal language and for all the above reasons

it is necessary to be well qualified in this language.

PETTY CRIMES

The aim of this proposal is to suggest ways in which petty crime problem

could be addressed.

Initially, I would like to put forward the idea of not being imprisoned

when somebody commits a petty crime. I do not believe that, for example,

shoplifting is a very serious crime like murder. People who may have cheated

or robbed once are not particularly dangerous to society. If only they could see

the consequences of their actions, they would not commit petty crimes again.

Also, another solution to this problem might be to get them to do some

kind of community service. For example, if a person stole something from a

shop or cheated somebody, he/she could do six months community service,

like clean their local area. In this way, they won’t be imprisoned and they will

offer some help to the government and the local area.

Another possible way of dealing with the problem would be to give petty

offenders administrative penalties and economic fines. Exemption from

prosecutions does not mean that there is no punishment.

In this way, the government can prevent crimes rather than punish them.

To punish those who commit petty crime because of poverty, will not prevent

crime, but will force these people to commit more serious crimes. The above-

mentioned recommendations should effectively tackle this problem.

A lot of people nowadays disapprove of scientists and criticise them to

be the root of all evil, on the grounds that many things they have invented,

such as the nuclear bomb, have been proven to be catastrophic. Whatsoever,

many of their breakthroughs have contributed to the development of our

world.

It is without doubt that, life, as we know it today, would not exist

without the innovative and vital inventions of many renowned inventors, like

Alexander Graham Bell, whose invention of the phone and is crucial to our

everyday life, the Wright brothers, by whom the airplane has become a very

easy and fast way to travel nowadays.

However, the technological development which I mostly find vital is the

virtual reality capsules. These comprise of highly technological mechanisms

as well as loads of microchips which exist in the inner parts of the

surroundings of the capsules and when they function altogether -in a rather

bemusing symmetry- they exploit the fact that the reactions of the brain to

what we see are chemical explosions which happen extremely rapidly and

hence they produce the appropriate reflexives and they spread an image

throughout the capsule’s specially designed walls with great preciseness and

thus we visualize ourselves doing whatever we want or being wherever we

want.

Albeit, these innovative and magnificent devices are not available to the

public, their role to some people is prominent. For instance, astronauts must

go through this experience so as to avoid any abnormalities during the real

flight.

In my opinion, in spite of the disappointing fact that I have never been

in a virtual reality capsule, I wish that in the near future this invention will be

available to ordinary people, so that I could have the chance to fulfill my

ever-existing ambition; visualize myself in extraterrestrial grounds.

On the whole, even though the odds may be against what I wanted my

entire life, I never cease hoping for the best.

Nowadays, many technological breakthroughs have made our lives

easier and better throughout the years. One of the most important in the field

of communications is the computer. They are mainly used at work or at home.

Undoubtly, this technological attainment has radically changed millions of

lives having both pros and cons but sometimes the pros outweigh the cons.

To begin with, the computers are partly used for everyday things, as

mentioned before, for instance, to write a simple letter or send an e-mail. One

of the main advantages is that it helps us to communicate with friends,

relatives and maybe unknown people from other places around the world. A

second advantage is that you can do your work faster and easier. Moreover, it

is an inexpensive mean of getting informed about what is happening around

the universe and it is also a mean from which you can receive a lot of

entertainment without paying a single pound. Furthermore, it widens your

horizons with its functions and punctuality.

In addition, it is important that we can use it in order to buy things and

items from the internet which are cheaper than the shops and are of a good

quality. Another benefit is the job opportunities which it can give us, because

many unemployed people have found work through the internet.

On the other hand there are some drawbacks too. The biggest drawback

is that you can be deceived and as a result to lose a lot of money or even

some of your belongings if you are not careful enough. One of the risks in

buying from the internet is that you cannot exchange it if you do not like it or

if it is not of a good quality. Also, there is the danger of cyberbullying.

Having considered both the benefits and the drawbacks, I would say

that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. All in all, I believe that

computers are an integral part of our lives at present and we must promote

their proliferation.

Hier in Griechenland, essen wir viel zu Ostern.Ein berühmtes Essen ist

Magiritsa.Wir essen Magiritsa mit Brot und rote Eier.Es schmeckt sehr gut!!!

Samstagnacht gehen wir in die Kirche.Wenn der Priester "Christos Anesti"

sagt,wird Feuerwerk gemacht und wir gehen nach Hause zurück.

Das wichtigste Fest in Griechenland ist Ostern.Zu Ostern ist die Stimmung

sehr gut!

Wir haben viel Spaß aber wir gehen jeden Samstag in die Kirche und wir

dürfen kein Fleisch essen.Wir essen viel Gemüse und wir trinken keine

Milch.Wenn die Fastenzeit zu Ende ist,essen wir das Osterlamm und viele

Süßigkeiten.

Wir haben keine Schule fünfzehn Tage lang und jeder kann den Alltag

vergessen und eine schöne Zeit mit seiner Familie verbringen.

Ostern ist sowohl für die Deutschen, als auch für die Griechen sehr wichtig!

Deutschland hat einige Traditionen für die Eier aber in Norden gibt Es auch

Traditionen für Feuer und Reisen.

Besonders die Kinder sind sehr froh und warten auf Ostern denn der Osterhase

versteckt bunte Ostereier und die kinder finden sie und essen sie auf.

Das Ei ist ein wichtiges Dekorationsobjekt.Sie hängen die Ostereier an die

Zweige und der Osterstrauß ist kunstvoll mit den bunten Eier.Sie schmücken

auch Brunnen mit Blumen.

Ich glaube, daß Ostern das wichtigste Fest in Griechenland ist und

Weihnachten das wichtigste Fest in Deutschland.Ich möchte aber gern zu

Ostern nach Deutschland fahren.Ich bin der Meinung,daß es eine gute Reise

ist....!!!!
